In Hand – Mattel WWE No Holds Barred SDCC Exclusive Set

Posted on July 16, 2022 at 11:26 am by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, San Diego Comic Con, Wrestling Toy News

No Hold Barred SDCC 22 999

Quick gallery this weekend for the recently revealed Mattel SDCC 2022 WWE exclusive set – No Hold Barred Rip and Zeus! Mattel was kind enough to send an early copy through and we were able to run it for some in-hand shots. Mattel’s promotional images and video were pretty kick ass, so we didn’t go bonkers with it but you should still be able to see some new views of the figures. If you remember this movie and got a little hit of nostalgia dopamine when you saw it, then you will be happy with it if you sang one. Standard fare WWE Elite construction, great accessories, top notch non-destructive packaging, and fantastic face sculpts.

This set will be available at the show starting on 7/20, with additional copies going up on MattelCreations.com starting 7/22. Read on to check out 55+ pics!

WWE Ultimate Edition Stone Cold Steve Austin Photo Shoot

Posted on August 13, 2021 at 5:14 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

Ultimate Stone Cold 50

Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16 – AUSTIN 3:16 SAYS I JUST WHIPPED YOUR ASS!.

Today we are taking a look at a recent drop from Mattel’s WWE Ultimate Edition figures – Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Texas Rattlesnake gets an upgrade from his previous Elite entries with additional articulation and a slew of accessories. For those that follow I am a VERY casual collector of WWE stuff, focusing mainly on the Attitude Era, and besties at that.  Stone Cold stuff always gets me though. This Ultimate Edition is an upgrade over the last one I grabbed which was the Defining Moments 6 (see our gallery for that here) so I had to grab him.

He’s out now in certain spots, I grabbed mine at Ringside Collectibles (no sponsor connection) with pre-orders still inbound at others. Make sure to get your POs in because he’s selling out pretty quick.

We’ve run him for a set of pics, basic and fancy, including some comparisons. Read on to check them out along with some additional thoughts!

MOTU Origins – New Castle Grayskull, Land Shark, Tri-Klops and MOTWWEU Wave 5

Posted on April 29, 2021 at 4:08 pm by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

MOTU April 2021

Time for a catch up set for some recently released MOTU themed items from Mattel.  This isn’t everything that’s just released, just a little sample.  The main thing I was excited to get a hold of and run for some photos was the new MOTU Origins Castle Grayskull.  On first glance to a casual fan – it’s Castle Grayskull.  But really it’s an all new mold, everything inside is redone.  It’s completely in scale with vintage and Origins.   Key point being that when closed and on display, the front is remolded to be more in tune with the Classics version.  Gone is the deformed looking face with black marks, hello crispy clean skull face.

In addition to Grayskull we also took a look at the Land Shark vehicle, Tri-Klops, Deluxe Clamp Champ, and MOTWWEU Wave 5.  That included Roddy Piper, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, Macho Man, and Becky Lynch.  All in the MOTU Orgins body style with MOTU style armor.  That line just continues to work!

So, read on to check out our shots which come courtesy of Mattel.  These are all out now or will be soon, hit your online and local retailers to grab your copies as you can!

WWE Elite 30th Undertaker and Decade of Domination Kane Gallery

Posted on October 30, 2020 at 5:11 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

wwe elite kane undertaker 2020

Time for a blast from the past with a set for two WWE Attidue Era legends – 30th Anniversary Undertaker and Decade of Domination Kane! I randomly pop into wrestling figure world, mostly for some good Attitude stuff. I was a kid in the 80s, but I still prefer the late 90s early 2000’s vibe with Stone Cold, the Rock, Taker and Kane, HHH in his DX and Game days, etc. Mattel has put out a couple solid figures recently for Undertaker and Kane, so we are giving them a run.

Undertaker is an Elite figure, packaged in a celebratory 30th anniversary box. He uses the TrueFX digi-print on the face this round which took pretty good engineering the line has always had, and adds that extra pop to really nail the total package. All his sleeves and tats are there, along with his streamlined but still evil look from later in the Attitude run. The jacket and hat are removable. The Jacket looks great on, but it does not move much. Not soft goods – which I like generally, but that stance you see him in the package, that’s pretty much it. Luckily with it off he’s still bad ass. Kane is in the Decade of Domination sub theme, doing superstars from the last 10 years of Mattel’s run on the brand. Kane also gets a TrueFX head sculpt, x 2 – one clean and bald, and one with the messed up hair and dirty face paint from the unmasking.

All in all they are great and are now chilling with my current display squad of Ultimate HHH, Slim Jim Macho Man, SDCC Mr. T, Brood Christian, Defining Moments Stone Cold. Wait how the heck did I start collecting Wrestling figures again, those tricky… Let’s see where this goes.

Both of these are exclusive to Walmart and are trickling out to stores now. Read on to check out shots of them both after the break courtesy of Mattel!

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 4 In-Hand Gallery

Posted on October 8, 2020 at 5:17 pm by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

x motu wwe 4

Masters of the WWE Universe (MOTWWEU) – the crossover line featuring wrestling superstars in vintage MOTU bodies is back with a 4th wave and no sign of slowing down!  This round again features a mix of legends and current stars – Jake The Snake Roberts, Mr. T, The Fiend and Seth Rollins all get a turn.  Jake The Snake features a battle armor chest plate, his trusty Snake, and removable Jake face revealing a Snake Face homage underneath.  Mr. T homages Jitsu with a golden gauntlet and chest armor, plus one more Fisto gauntlet for the other hand.  The Fiend gets a boss leather jacket and Trap Jaw weapons for his hands.  Lastly Seth Rollins gets Zodak chest armor and a Draego-Man sword.

All in all a great wave.  Mr. T in this style of figure is pure win, it oozes 80s all over the place.  Jake The Snake is also executed perfectly, the hidden Snake Face deco underneath just nails it.  The Fiend pretty much doesn’t need a homage, he belongs in Eternia already.  Seth Rollins is clean and good for the younger generation.  Once again, lots of molding for future MOTU Origins figures are worked in here if they decide to go that deep with it.

We’ve run the wave after the break, check out 30 HD shots courtesy of Mattel!

I Pity The Fool! – Mr. T WWE Elite SDCC In-Hand Gallery

Posted on July 9, 2020 at 3:47 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

WWE Mr T SDCC 32

Mattel is following up last year’s awesome SDCC Exclusive Slim Jim Macho Man with another 80’s icon – Mr. T!  This WWE Elite figure is a first in line, and features his look from promotional materials the WWF WWE used at the time.  Namely the camo jacket, trademark gold chains, gold rings, and bracelets.  His wrestling attire features blue trunks as seen on his Saturday Night Main Event appearances.  The likeness is really good, giving us a grimacing stare using the TruFX face paint.  That’s all wrapped up in a really sweet box, which features artwork of a Mattel WWE Elite Logo hanging off some gold chains (I smell a role play item coming).

All in all, it’s an awesome piece that’s dripping with 80s juice and a great companion to the Macho Man. Mattel was kind enough to send through a copy to check out so read on to see our shots of Mr. T in action!  He’s currently sold out, but keep an eye on Entertainment Earth in case more pop up!

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 3 In-Hand Gallery

Posted on June 25, 2020 at 3:23 pm by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

motwweu wave 3

Mattel is back with another round of Masters of the Universe / WWE crossover action!  Wave 3 of MOTWWEU features 4 more figures adding to the ranks.  The Rock has no specific crossover, but features electric effects for the wrist, championship belt, He-Man-esque chest armor and a Man At Arms style club.  Braun Strowman is a Beast Man homage, featuring his chest and shoulder armor along with some Terror Claws that have been used several times so far. The New Day is a Man-E-Faces homage, featuring a spinning head sculpt with 3 dead on likenesses to all members of the team.  The helmet is classic Man-E-Faces, and now features a slight side-to-side swivel along with the face spins.  Rounding things out is The Undertaker – I don’t see parts which are specific to MOTU but I don’t have everything memorized so if you see a homage there let us know.   He does glow in the dark though, well, featuring an eerie milky white plastic when not lit up.  EDIT – Duh, he homages Scare Glow in the staff, the GITD angle and the tats under the armor.  Shout to Pravus Prime on that.

All in all another fun round!  These brands work surprisingly well together.  For fans of vintage MOTU or the MOTU Origins line coming later this year – parts swapping and custom materials are plenty with these WWE versions.  Read on to check some pics showing off what they can do after the break, courtesy of Mattel!

Extreme Sets Arena Pop Up 3.0 and WWE Elite Series 76 Gallery

Posted on June 17, 2020 at 3:11 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

Arena 3 WWE Elite 76

We are back with another Extreme Sets gallery, this time it’s for their MASSIVE Arena 3.0 set. Extreme Sets started off way back when doing items for wrestling figures, before they moved into the full scope of action figure dioramas. Arena 3.0 takes this to a new level. It’s double stacked tall at 3 feet, and 7 feet wide, I couldn’t even fully extend it on my photo staging area, which is pretty big! Wrapping this around a ring will allow you to fully recreate the vibe of being in an arena while you figures battle it out. From the photography standpoint, it’s also great because you can get those epic shots pointing up into the ring while still filling the background with crowd. Something new this round is also separate ringside stands with layered people, all using stock photography. This adds another round of realism, and works especially well in photography when they are blurred out, much better than the cartoony outlines on the last one.

In conjunction with the Extreme Sets Arena 3.0 shoot here, we also ran the recently released WWE Elite Series 76 figures. Wrestling isn’t our normal angle here, but we figured since Arena 3.0 was in the house let’s give them a spin! Included are John Cena, Braun Strowman, Tucker and Otis (Heavy Machinery), Lacey Evans, and Christian from his Brood days. There is also a Christian variant in a black shirt, which is what we got actually and is featured here. I can’t speak to specifics regarding Elite and what’s expected by long time fans, but they were well executed from a technical point of view, nice range of articulation and the TruFX faces came through. Christian in this era was from my last run in WWE land, so researching and setting up some Brood entrance shots was a fun trip down memory lane.  Now I want a modern Gangrel and Brood Edge!

Read on to check it all out, courtesy of Extreme Sets and Mattel, respectively. Both are in stock and shipping now!

You can also use code TOYARK at checkout over at Extreme-Sets.com, and you’ll get 15% off your orders.

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 2 Gallery

Posted on March 5, 2020 at 4:04 pm by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

x MOTWWEU Wave 2

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 2 has dropped!  This is Mattel’s WWE and Masters of the Universe crossover line, using the new MOTU Origins style bodies.  For those who don’t know, Origins are vintage He-Man style bodies with added articulation.  Before MOTU Origins fully hits, they’ve been using the body style for this line, mixing up WWE Superstars and MOTU characters.  This wave has four pieces – Macho Man Randy Savage with Man At Arms callbacks, Rey Mysterio Jr. with Stratos pieces, John Cena Faker He-Man style, and Roman Reigns with Fisto elements.  In Package the MOTU elements are more hidden, but once out of the box they really show off their crossover feels.

MOTU collectors should note that the parts needed for future Origins characters not yet announced are being worked in here, so the designs are ready to go if/when they get there.

We’ve run these guys through a quick gallery. They are hitting Walmart now, where they are exclusive to.   Read on to check the shots courtesy of Mattel!

Mattel WWE Ultimate Edition HHH Gallery

Posted on January 17, 2020 at 5:53 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

Ultimate HHH 032

It’s time to play the game, it’s time to play the gaaammmmeee… And it’s time to take a gallery look at the WWE Ultimate Edition Triple H figure from Mattel.  Wrestling figures are something we cover passingly here – it’s a massive line spanning multiple eras and the team here doesn’t actively collect in depth.   I do however pick up random figures, mostly from the Attitude era.  We took at look at the defining moments Stone Cold a while back, and that gallery for whatever reason gets copied and reposted without credit constantly.  We also did a gallery for the S.H. Figuarts WWE Figures, all from the Attitude Era.  The Slim Jim Macho Man from last year was great.  I have some more here, just for self, and so on.  Select pops of awesome.  I can’t go down the rabbit hole, next thing you know I’ll have a permanent ring setup with entrance ramp and jumbotron and a motion activated Stone Cold theme song every time I enter my office.

Read on to check out our thoughts and 40+ images of THE GAME courtesy of Mattel!
