S.H. Figuarts Justice League Superman Photo Gallery

Posted on September 6, 2018 at 5:24 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Next up in our week of DC galleries is S.H. Figuarts Superman from the Justice League series.  Supes comes packed with an extra head, 3 sets of hands and a fabric wired cape.  Paint application on the suit uses a metallic sheen and the face uses digital printing for the fine details.  Sculpt overall is solid with articulation hitting all the major points. The head can sit on the neck a bit weird unless you focus your posing, but once nailed is just fine.  The wired cape is one of the better ones in recent memory, the fabric used and wiring make for fairly easy dynamic posing that hangs right.  The primary head is really sharp.  None of the Cavill head sculpts from any brand fully nail the look, but this one from most angles gets it.  The heat vision version is good except for the paint used on the mouth, it’s way too dark and just looks off, like he was eating black licorice all day.

Bottom line, it’s a really sharp DCEU Superman, one I’m keeping in rotation for now as primary.  Check out Mr. Kent and the rest of the JL so far after the break courtesy of Tamashii Nations and Bluefin Brands!  He’s out now at retailers in Japan and the US.

S.H. Figuarts Batman Ninja and Joker Photo Review

Posted on September 5, 2018 at 3:30 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Batman.  Ninja.  Before this dropped I had no idea that these two words should go together.  Now they must.  The anime that dropped earlier this year was a crazy alt-verse ride, sending Batman and his family back in time to Feudal Japan along with Gotham’s villains.  We get ninjas, samurais, sword fighting, huge army battles, giant mecha robots and more.  The anime and it’s translation is not for everyone, but the visuals from it are pretty damn cool.  Enter these S.H. Figuarts Batman Ninja Joker and Batman figures.  They are high end, well executed versions of classic characters that can stand on any shelf regardless of connection to the movie, giving us a little spice.   Each are layered with tons of sculpt and detailed paint, come with a sword / sheath, extra heads and accessories.  Batman’s cape is removeable, as is Joker’s coat. Articulation is wide ranging, hitting all major points.  Batman is a little restricted with the cape though, and it takes up a lot of back-space when in dynamic poses.

All in all they are fun, alternative takes on these characters that have been done countless times.  As figures, they are a blast to pose and mess around with.   Both are out now in Japan and US retailers.  Read on to check out over 90 HD images showing what they can do!

S.H. Figuarts Catwoman – The Dark Knight Rises Gallery

Posted on September 4, 2018 at 3:00 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

We did a whole bunch of Marvel last week, time for some DC stuff this week!  Kicking things off is our look at the S.H. Figuarts The Dark Knight Rises Catwoman figure.  Repping Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle from the Christopher Nolan movies, she’s a 6 inch figure with several movie specific accessories. She comes with her goggles, one for raised and one for on-face, a pistol and a set of hands to work with the previously released Batpod.  Articulation and range of movement is good.  The ankles are a bit difficult to get in place, but they do work and hold weight given they are tiny and she’s in high heels.  The flip up goggles work well as a real-world play on the cat ears.  Paint and sculpt is solid from the neck down. Face sculpt – did not translate well from the prototype which was pretty good.  Chin is a tad recessed and face is wide, we lose the look of the actress in the process.  It’s still well executed, just not photo real to the movie.

With the goggles down, she’s a great accent piece to the previously released Batman, Batpod and Joker, all of which are excellent.  We’ve run her through the paces so read on to check out over 50 HD images!  She’s out now at specialty retailers in the US and Japan.

Also of note: The building backdrop featured in some shots is from Extreme Sets. They have given us a coupon code for a discount on your orders. Enter code TOYARK at checkout and get 15% off your order!

S.H. Figuarts Justice League Flash Photo Review

Posted on May 31, 2018 at 4:37 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

[So you’re fast.] That feels like an oversimplification. Time to take a quick (ha) look at the next S.H. Figuarts DC Justice League figure – The Flash. He joins Batman and Wonder Woman in uniting the team. The figure is a 6 inch scale, fully articulated movie version of Barry Allen, capturing the plated look of his armor in the DCEU. The face uses digital printing to capture the look of Ezra Miller. He comes with 3 sets of hands, and no extra heads or accessories. While hard to capture under different lights, he rocks a maroon / dark red as he did in the movie, not the fire engine red our cameras love to spit out.

All in all it’s a really well done version of the character, and pairs great with Bruce and Diana. When done, the S.H. Figuarts JL line up will be a solid representation of the team from this era.

We’ve run (ha) him through the motions, so read on to check out over 40 HD images! He’s out now in Japan and should be hitting US retailers soon!

S.H. Figuarts Justice League Wonder Woman Gallery

Posted on February 8, 2018 at 9:39 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Next up in the Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Justice League series of figures is Wonder Woman.  We took a look at Batman a bit ago, and Wonder Woman now joins him in filling out the League.  Overall it’s a solid entry for DC fans, one of the most well rounded  DCEU Wonder Woman figures to date.  She comes with 2 faces,  3 sets of hands, sword, shield, Lasso of Truth in both holstered and extended forms.  Articulation is thorough as S.H. Figuarts is known for, top to bottom.  Let’s take a closer look after the break!

S.H. Figuarts Justice League Batman Gallery

Posted on January 22, 2018 at 5:34 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Today we are taking a look at the S.H. Figuarts Justice League Batman figure from Bandai Tamashii Nations.  Many companies are tackling the 6 Inch scale versions of these guys, and in promo shots S.H. Figuarts are very promising.  Their first release here with Batman is close, but does have some issues which we will go over after the break.  He’s got the sculpt, paint, articulation, weathering and accessories you’d expect from a higher end import figure.  The cape is standard fabric with wired edges style.  The only issue – height.  However, that may be a manufacturing issue.  Let’s dig into that after the break!

S.H. Figuarts The Dark Knight Joker Gallery

Posted on December 10, 2017 at 11:14 am by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

S.H. Figuarts continues it’s stroll down Bat-memory lane with the release of The Dark Knight Joker.  He comes after the release of The Dark Knight Batman earlier this year.  This is the trench coat version of the Joker, featuring his purple suit and coat.  He comes with several accessories including a rocket launcher, machine gun, knife and Joker card, all of which come straight out of the movie.  There was some chatter about this one due to the initial pictures of the heads, but we think it’s worthy of a second look.  Read on to check out over 40 HD images after the break!

Deadshot – S.H. Figuarts Suicide Squad Photo Review

Posted on June 27, 2017 at 1:52 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Now this is a story all about… No wait, wrong thing. Today we’re taking a look a the Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Suicide Squad Deadshot. Based on Will Smith‘s (PHILLY WHAT!) portrayal of the DC Comics sharpshooter in the DCEU movie, it covers all the angles from the likeness to the suit to his rifle. Like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn earlier in the year, this Deadshot is dead-on with the Will Smith face sculpt, almost scary. Some angles lose it, but straight on and from most side angles you see it and know that’s Will Smith. Very hard to do on a smaller side 6 inch figure. The body features a wide range of articulation, nothing is missing. Armor and weapon packs seen on the suit pop off via pegs. The alternate head with mask is no joke either, his eye scope and textured leather is there. Suicide Squad have given us some of the best S.H. Figuarts to date, hitting movie likenesses with high end materials and articulation. Other than moving up in scale, not much more is there to want for. Let’s take a closer look at the Fresh Prince of Kill Shots after the break!

S.H. Figuarts The Dark Knight Batman – Early In-Hand First Look!

Posted on May 19, 2017 at 3:45 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Bandai Tamashii Nations is ever expanding the S.H. Figuarts reach, and that continues today with an expansion of their DC Comics line up. First it was Injustice, then Suicide Squad and now they’re going back to tackle Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight Batman is respected as a movie and the suit is one of most revered to date – functional, streamlined and damn cool looking. S.H. Figuarts is taking a crack at it now after many have been on market from other companies; but that gives them the ability to really focus in and get it right. And, based on our early in-hand time with it, they have. The figure is one of the best Batman offerings to date, in any form. It has a full range of articulation, detailed sculpt head to toe, complex paint and weathering even on a mostly black palette. Extra hands, head, and two weapons round the release out.

We’ve handled it and shot over 95 HD images of the final production version, case fresh! It’s due out in Japan in June, soon after via Bluefin Brands in the United States, so don’t pay those import prices! Read on to check some additional thoughts and all the images!

You can check a live unboxing at 3 PM over on the Bluefin Facebook page! After that, make sure to visit @sgtbananas and @toyark on Instagram for some more pics!
