McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse figures are out in the wild, hitting retail and online shops.  Wave 1 consists of 12 figures, a variant, and a vehicle.  We took a look at the first half of the wave on Friday, you can check that out here. Today we are going to look at the rest, with the key focus being the Animated figures – Animated Batman, Animated Superman, Animated Green Lantern, Harley Quinn (kinda Animated), and then TV Green Arrow along with the Bat-Raptor vehicle.

We aren’t even 2 weeks into 2020 and the first major story for collectors has hit – McFarlane Toys DC Comics license is live.  They wasted no time, dropping on Jan 1 and showing up for purchase soon after.  Wave 1 of what is being called DC Multiverse (Mattel’s was technically DC Comics Multiverse) consists of 12 figures and 1 vehicle. Included are:

  • Batman: Detective Comics #1000
  • Batman: Detective Comics #1000 Variant Chase
  • Superman: Action Comics #1000
  • Batgirl: Art of the Crime
  • Nightwing: Better Than Batman
  • The Batman Who Laughs

We have everything in hand and have begun our galleries and reviews.  We are splitting this into two parts.  Today we will be covering Batman #1000, Superman #1000, Batgirl, Nightwing, Batman Who Laughs, Unchained Superman and Hellbat Batman.

We’ve done base shots on pure white to show clearly what’s going on with each figure, articulation range, key features.  We’ve also run them for comparisons with each other and other brand’s figures of different scale.  And of course, we capped it off with some super fancy pants shots because that’s the fun stuff!

McFarlane DC Multiverse 1

It’s official, McFarlane Toys DC Comics license has begun and official images and product info have been revealed.  While some dropped yesterday, a full range of pics and details are now available.   Check out all the details after the break, and hit your favorite shops to pre-order yours today!

DC Comics McFarlane Toys

Photos have been making the rounds this evening of the highly anticipated DC Comics 7″ Scale Figures by McFarlane Toys. However, with no official source, I was hesitant to share them. However, it appears as if the images have come to light via hidden Walmart.com listings, which have again been made private. Below, you can see the list of figures that have been revealed. SDCC 2019 DCC Figures 008 1

Our own Tony Bacala attended a DC Comics interview session at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. There he got a chance to talk toys and collectibles a bit with Jim Fletcher from DC Collectibles, who is a designer on lines like DC Bombshells, and the DC Core statues. They were also joined by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane of McFarlane Toys. DC action figure fans have been eagerly anticipating what McFarlane Toys will do with the DC Comics license, and have also been wondering what the future holds for DC Collectibles. Below, I’ve summarized what was talked about. There’s some great info from DC Collectibles, where Jim Fletcher clears up a lot of misinformation out there pertaining to some of the action figure lines.

DC Collectibles

  • All current lines are continuing for now. Specifically mentioned Essentials, Batman Animated Series, all current statue lines.
  • DC Essentials is NOT cancelled (contrary to reports). On a bit of a hiatus after the next wave. Was originally planned to be a limited line, but sold better than expected, so they are now working to continue and have characters in development.
  • Batman Animated Figures will see some reissues of the older figures to get those in the hands of people just coming into the line, but a lot of new additions are planned.
  • Working with Paul Dini to re-write bios for the Batman Animated Figures, as if the show had continued going.
  • Going to eventually shift Animated series to mostly characters who never appeared in the show (like Deathstroke), which is why they say “The Adventure Continues”.
  • Asked if they plan to do more of the super articulated DC Prime 9″ Tall Figure (like Batman). They would love to, but want to see how well Batman sells. They do have designs ready if they do continue.
  • Specifically mentions the DC Lucha Explosiva line is NOT cancelled. It is being retooled to be more extensive, with story, bringing in more artists for updating the character designs.

Todd McFarlane

  • For the most part, he couldn’t say much due to current licensees still having product out, and coming for 2019.
  • McFarlane Toys has a 3-year contract for figures.
  • Todd himself wants to make sure they do as loyal and good a job as possible. Want them to be as accurate to source material (and the artists) as they can be. Wants to make sure they are amazingly detailed figures.
  • Does want to a bit of his own spin, if allowed by DC Comics/WB. But wants to build up trust with them first.

under DC Toy News, Toy Fair

In a very surprising reveal, IGN has shared news that McFarlane Toys will produce DC Comics figures! The licensing agreement begins in 2020, and is a three year agreement. This license gives McFarlane access to produce figures based on the comics, movies, and video games. According to their report, the license will allow McFarlane Toys to produce 6″ scale to 12″ scale “ultra-poseable” action figures, and also includes vehicles and accessories. Sadly, it doesn’t sound like any DC product from McFarlane will be on display at Toy Fair this coming weekend.

With this announcement of multiple companies having a DC license, it is becoming clearer on how the DC toy will be handled starting next year. Spin Masters was granted their own license (also a three year agreement) for DC Comics toys. Fans had wondered how they were going to approach collector level figures, and now it seems that Spin Master won’t necessarily have to. With McFarlane producing collector figures, Spin Master can focus on more kid-oriented releases. But, their actual plans remain to be seen.
