Extreme Sets Wave 6 – Bank, Vault, Subway, Cave, Abandoned House, Floor Packs

Posted on November 28, 2018 at 7:59 pm by Tony_Bacala under General Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Time for another round of epic diorama action courtesy of Extreme Sets!  Extreme-Sets.com has been producing pop-up build it yourself dioramas made of cardboard for a hot minute, they are currently on Wave 6.  This round includes The Cave, which is perfect for Mr. Wayne and the family, A Bank and Vault (2 sets), so you can have the full setup getting robbed, a new Subway option in 59th Street, recreating the epic NYC hub, a floor pack featuring simple tiles to use with other sets or even by themselves, and the Abandoned House 1.5, this time all the spook without major graffiti.

We encourage you to check our previous galleries to see how they all work and thoughts on the system overall.  In short, it’s awesome for a shelf or for use in toy photography.

We’ve run all these by themselves to show what they can do, and you can expect we will continue to use them throughout 2019 in our action figure galleries and reviews.  Their re-configuration and ability to be broken down and stored quickly is perfect for toy photography.  If you have open space for display or shelves that fit these guys, they work great for dynamically displaying a group of figures together rather than just stuffing them in there single file like we tend to do.  And hey, if you have kids – they’re a perfect play session waiting to happen!

Read on to check out our pics courtesy of the ES team, and hit Extreme-Sets.com to grab your copies!  They even have some of the older sets still in stock as well.  Use coupon code TOYARK at checkout for 15% off your order!

Extreme Sets Abandoned House 2.0 Photo Review

Posted on May 11, 2018 at 9:31 pm by Tony_Bacala under General Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Extreme Sets produce cardboard based diorama sets designed to work for your display set ups and toy photography.  They interconnect using a slot system allowing for both simple and complex staging areas.  We’ve been a big fan of them here since getting a hold of some last year.  Today we are going to take a look at another one from their latest wave, Multiverse Collection Series 5.  The Abandoned House 2.0 is an upgraded version of their original Wave 1 Abandoned House set, just like the Deranged Alley 2.0 is an upgrade of the original (and both are my personal favs now).

This set comes with 6 wall panels, 3 floor panels, and 2 columns.  4 of the wall panels now have doors that are pre cut to open and close.   This door aspect has been awesome in my opinion, especially for photography.  It allows for great wide angle shots and adds dimension to the scene.  And if you have the room in your display, you can layer figs behind them on both sides. The entire set has a LOT of graffiti on it.  Even the floors.  This differentiates it from the original set.  While it is well done, I would have preferred a little less.  Or at least a couple panels with, a couple without.  Apparently some cardboard teenage delinquents got in there and really went to town.

Tabbing is great, all panels slide together well and stay in place.  These sets now use a white backing to add some stability to the cardboard, that also helps with the ease of tabbing.  I personally put a little thick tape along the seems of the floor panels on the under-side to keep them together tight.

Bottom line, it’s another solid set for the 1:12 / 6 inch scale, and if you want to display or shoot horror figures, zombies, or just straight creepy urban figs (think – Batman and his baddies), then this will work.  There are enough to choose from now that you can get something for almost all the genres.

If you’re interested after you check it out: The fine folks at Extreme-Sets.com have given us a coupon code for a discount on your orders. Enter code TOYARK at checkout and get 15% off your order!

One:12 Deathstroke Previews Exclusive Gallery

Posted on April 4, 2018 at 5:54 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Today we are taking a look at an exclusive colorway of the One:12 Deathstroke figure by Mezco Toyz. The Previews Exclusive PX version is primarily black instead of blue with the half orange mask and orange highlights throughout the weaponry.  He comes packed with an unmasked head, 2 sets of extra hands, sword, sheath and strap for it, and 5 different guns each with removable clips or ammo.  As with all One:12 figures, it is a stunning piece that addresses most high end collector’s needs.  Full range of articulation at every conceivable point, detailed sculpt, meticulous paint and weathering.  Bottom line, he stands firm as a badass on any shelf you place him.

In conjunction with the gallery for this fine piece of plastic, we are also busting out the Extreme Sets Deranged Alley 2.0 Pop-Up Diorama.  This is a remix of the original Deranged Alley set, which happens to be my favorite of all they’ve done so far. This version comes with 6 wall panels, and 2 of them now feature doors.  It also has 2 brick columns and 3 floor panels.  Overall it gives you much more range for display or photography needs.

Read on to check out both items in depth with over 95 HD images available!

Tonight we are taking a look at another Extreme Sets Pop Up diorama, “The Building 2”. This is their second full building offering, this time one story tall. The Building 2 can be combined with previous building / alley environments to build out your Extreme City. It can be configured in a square with a roof attached to mimic the building, or, opened up to act as building fronts in a backdrop scenario. We’ve also cracked open the Ground Pack, a separate release with panels for three types of flooring – concrete (seen here), metal grates and sewer panels. Read on to check out some additional thoughts and images of it in use!

Extreme Sets Animated Port Pop Up Diorama Gallery

Posted on September 12, 2017 at 1:33 pm by Tony_Bacala under General Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Next up in our look at the latest round of Extreme Sets display dioramas is the Animated Port Pop Up from Multiverse Series 4.  The set looks to be inspired by what the docks looked like in Batman The Animated series, though it is not directly based on it or anything else.  It works with 6/7 inch figures perfectly and comes with a huge single piece background, along with 3 containers that open up and several crates for scattering around the scene.  Any kind of urban environment figures will work here, Marvel, DC, Turtles and the like.    Read on to check out some additional thoughts and pics!

Also of note: The fine folks at Extreme-Sets.com have given us a coupon code for a discount on your orders. Enter code TOYARK at checkout and get 15% off your order! They are also offering 25% off on orders over 120 USD with an email sign up at the moment.
