DST Tron Series 1 Action Figures 067

Released in 1982, Disney’s Tron was one of the first major Hollywood films to rely on computer generated imagery (CGI) for its special effects. It was a film that was ahead of its time, so much so that the Academy Awards refused to acknowledge the films accomplishments, saying that using computers was cheating. The film never quite found the box office audience Disney was hoping for, but it became a cult favorite on home video.

The film followed a group of computer programmers looking to prove that a high ranking executive was stealing ideas from Kevin Flynn. Flynn, a genius programmer, created many of the games his company, Encom, was known for. When he crosses Encom’s growing AI program, the Master Control Program (MCP), Flynn is digitized, and sucked into the unknown digital world. There, Programs roam the digital landscape, performing the tasks their Users designed them to do. But the MCP has begun a hostile takeover, absorbing programs for his own gain, and forcing many others to fight in a game grid based on the real world video games that Flynn designed. The MCP uses the villainous Sark to do his bidding, running the games and rounding up programs to fight. When Flynn meets Tron and his friends, they devise a plan to take down the MCP, and return Flynn to the real world before he derezzed and lost forever.

The film has had a few toys and collectibles over the years. However, the new line of 7″ scale action figures by Diamond Select Toys may just be the best yet. Series 1 consists of Tron, Kevin Flynn (Infiltrator), and Sark. A Walgreens exclusive assortment is also available, which features the three figures with less accessories. However, it’s only via Walgreens that fans can find the blue version of Flynn. Our friends at diamond Select Toys have sent along the Tron Deluxe Series 1 Figures, and I managed to find a Blue Flynn in the wild. DST Tron Series 1 Packaging

New final in-packaging photos have been released by Diamond Select Toys for their upcoming Tron Series 1 Deluxe Figures. Each figure is packed on blister card packaging. The assortment includes Tron, Sark, and Infiltrator Kevin Flynn. The 7″ scale figures each feature interchangeable hands, identity discs, and identity discs with effects. The figure have about 16 points of articulation each.

Originally, the figures were going to be part of the “Select” figure line, and were going to include pieces to build a Recognizer vehicle from the movie. Sadly, they were unable to get that to work out. However, the loss of the Recognizer pieces did result in the price per figure being lowered to $20 each. The Tron Series 1 Figures are due for release in February. See the new packaging images after the jump.

DST Tron Walgreens 003

Earlier this year, Diamond Select Toys revealed that they were creating action figures based on the original 1982 Tron film! The first assortment includes Tron, Sark, Kevin Flynn in red, and a Walgreens Exclusive Kevin Flynn in blue. Reports are showing up online that the figures are now available at Walgreens. The assortment for Walgreens differs from the figures that will be hitting comic shops and online stores next month. The comic and specialty shop assortments will include more accessories, as well as the parts to build the Recognizer. Toyark sponsor Big Bad Toy Store has opened up pre-orders for some new items from Diamond Select Toys and Gentle Giant. These listings are from the upcoming DST solicitations, which should be fully revealed tomorrow. We’ll update with higher quality images once they are available. The original Tron finally gets its due from Diamond Select Toys with Kingdom Hearts Select Series 3 from Diamond Select Toys. There have been very few great Tron figures, or even worthwhile collectibles, over the years. So it’s great to see the classic versions of the characters, even though they’re based on a video game appearance. The third wave of figures is based on the Space Paranoids world from Kingdom Hearts II. In the game, Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy travel to the Grid and meet up with Tron and face off against the villainous Sark. DST brings a few of these guys together in two 2-packs. The sets include Tron and Sora, as well as Sark and Goofy.

The figures are in stores now. Each set retails for about $25. You can check out my gallery and thoughts after the jump.

Diamond Select Toys has sent along a press release detailing some of their first Kingdom Hearts 3 collectibles. They have revealed two new action figures, a bust and a new assortment of Minimates. The first items start to hit this Spring, with more coming in the Summer. Check out the details below, and see all of the included images after the jump.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Goes Better with Toys from DST!

On the eve of the launch of Kingdom Hearts III, the long-awaited video game sequel, DST has a plethora of new Kingdom Hearts products in the works based on the entire franchise! From action figures to vinyl figures to resin busts, there’s something for every kind of collector hitting stores between now and this summer!

In comic shops and specialty stores now, the second series of Kingdom Hearts Select action figures features the world of Space Paranoids, pairing Sora with Sark, Goofy with Tron, and Organization 13 Mickey with an Assassin Heartless! Look for Sora, Goofy and an exclusive Timeless Pete at Walgreens, and Sora, Tron with an exclusive Soldier Heartless, and an exclusive unhooded Mickey with Assassin at GameStop.

Also at GameStop, four exclusive Kingdom Hearts Gallery PVC Dioramas are now available, spotlighting Sora, Goofy, Pete and Mickey with Donald. Ranging from 6 to 9 inches tall, each sculpture is made of high-quality plastic, and features high-quality paint details. They can also be ordered on GameStop.com.

In comic shops and specialty stores, the Kingdom Hearts 3 Vinimates vinyl figures are based on the game’s new Toy Story looks. Featuring Sora, Donald and Goofy, each 4-inch block-styled figure has an articulated neck for additional posing options.

Kingdom Hearts Minimates have captured the game’s main characters in 2-inch mini-figure format for two series so far, including characters from Space Paranoids – Tron, Sark, and SP versions of Donald and Goofy. The spring will deliver the light cycle from Space Paranoids, packaged with an exclusive figure of Space Paranoids Sora!

Coming this spring, the first Kingdom Hearts III Select action figures will be Sora in his new look and the sorceress Maleficent! Packaged in a 2-pack, each 7-inch scale figure features up to 16 points of articulation, and includes an accessory – Sora with his Shooting Star Keyblade, and Maleficent with her staff and raven Diablo. Sora’s compatriots Goofy and Donald will also get a re-release in their own two-pack, with shield and scepter accessories, respectively.

Also in the spring, The Legends in 3D line of half-scale resin busts brings to life Sora as he appears in the new game! Measuring approximately 10 inches tall, Sora is limited to only 1,000 pieces, and comes packaged in a hand-numbered, full-color box with a certificate of authenticity. It was designed by Joe Allard, sculpted by Varner Studios!

Then in the summer, Kingdom Hearts Minimates Series 3 visits the worlds of Kingdom Hearts 3! Three two-packs make up the assortment, featuring Toy Story Sora with Wreck it Ralph, Pirates of the Caribbean’s Captain Jack Sparrow with Pirate Donald, and Mickey Mouse with Maleficent! Each 2-inch mini-figure features fully interchangeable parts and accessories.
