A new press release has been posted by Business Wire announcing that JAKKS Pacific is now the new global license holder for the Sonic The Hedgehog license. They will be offering a range of products, including action figures, licensed novelty merchandise, plushies and more. The first items are set to debut at Toy Fair 2019. SEGA of America Taps JAKKS Pacific as Global Toy Partner for Sonic the Hedgehog

Product Line to be Revealed at New York Toy Fair 2019

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Leading U.S. toymaker JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAKK), today announced it has entered into a multi-year, global toy licensing deal with SEGA of America, Inc. to manufacture, market, and distribute their iconic Sonic the Hedgehog video game brand. The entire line will be showcased at the International Toy Fair in New York February 16-19, 2019.

SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise launched in 1991 and continues to be one of the most-popular gaming brands of all time with over 800M units sold or downloaded to date. With a methodical and organic approach, Sonic the Hedgehog has expanded its footprint across multiple platforms including games, mobile, TV, comics and other entertainment areas.

JAKKS will be showcasing its line of Sonic the Hedgehog action figures, playsets, plush, collectibles and novelty items. One item fans will speed to the store for is the Pinball Track Set. This set brings the iconic videogame to life with its customizable track. Fans simply pull the pinball launcher and shoot the Sonic Spheres through the loops and turns. The set comes with an exclusive Sonic Sphere and removable figure.

The global launch (except Asia) of Sonic the Hedgehog toys will be available at retail this Fall for fans ages three and older with prices starting at $4.99.

A new assortment of toys based on the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise is coming from Diamond Select Toys. They have announced the new license acquisition via Diamond Toy Chest News. We’ll be getting our first look at the Sonic toys this weekend at Toy Fair 2018! It sounds like these will be more of their stylized figures, such as Minimates and Vinimates, as well as statues and PVC figureines. There’s no mention of Select style action figures. Check out the details below.

In 1991, the SEGA game Sonic The Hedgehog introduced a new hero to the video game world. Fast, blue and full of attitude, Sonic became a superstar, and went on to star in dozens of games over his 27-year history. Now, Diamond Select Toys has teamed with SEGA to create a line of high-quality Sonic the Hedgehog collectibles for fans young and old!

The first products will be on display at the International Toy Fair in New York City, with a focus on the core Sonic characters — the speedy hedgehog Sonic, the energetic Amy, Tails the two-tailed flying fox,  Knuckles the powerful Echidna, Shadow the anti-hero hedgehog, Metal Sonic the evil robot hedgehog, and the mustachioed mastermind Dr. Eggman. Product categories include Gallery PVC dioramas, Minimates block figures, Vinimates vinyl figures and PVC mini-figures with collect-and-connect racetracks.

“It’s an honor and a challenge to develop products based a world with such a long history and distinctive style,” said Diamond Select Toys president Chuck Terceira. “The Sonic Universe has so many possibilities that we are excited to explore – in our established categories, like Vinimates, Minimates and Gallery PVCs, but also the PVC mini-figure category, which we are diving into for the first time!”

Diamond Select Toys expects to have their first Sonic products on the market by holiday 2018 and plans to offer them to retailers beginning this month. Gallery PVC dioramas are approximately 9-inch scale sculpted statues, made of PVC for its durability and lower price point. Vinimates are posed, 4-inch block-style figures, and Minimates are 2-inch, fully poseable block figures that recently celebrated their 15th anniversary.

A new series of Sonic the Hedgehog Blind Box Mini Figures have been released by Kidrobot. The 25th Anniversary Sonic Mini Figures will stand at 3″ tall each and include a golden ring themed figure base. They are priced at $9.99 each and can be ordered Here.

Sonic is his name and speed is his game! Sega and Kidrobot have teamed up to present an all-new Sonic The Hedgehog vinyl mini series just in time for the 25th anniversary of the original Sega Genesis game! Each collectible blind box figure comes mounted on a golden ring as seen in the original game. Collect them all before they speed away!
