John Carpenter’s The Thing Statues Coming From Chronicle Collectibles

Posted on February 24, 2018 at 12:44 pm by Joe Moore under Horror Toy News

In a Facebook live video, Chronicle collectibles talked about numerous items, such as Jurassic World, Terminator and Vikings. But the biggest news (to me) is they revealed that they will be creating statues based on John Carpenter’s The Thing! Along with the announcement, they shared the first concept sketches for their R.J. MacReady, Blair, Bennings and Clark statues. These were previously talked about in a podcast, but now we know what the plan currently is. Right now, they want to start with the main cast from the film, which also includes Windows, Fuchs, Childs, Copper, etc. These will be 1/9 scale statues, much like their Fallout – Nuka Cola Girl, or Viking – Ragnor Statues. That should mean the plan is for these to be in the $90 to $100 price range each, making them far easier to collect for statue fans on a budget.

These are still early in development, so not much else is known. We will update as more details become available. Read on for some screen shots of the sketches.

PCS Reveals New Horror 7-Inch Figures at Monsterpalooza

Posted on April 24, 2016 at 7:22 pm by Joe Moore under Horror Toy News

At Monsterpalooza this weekend, Pop Culture Shock showcased some of their upcoming items. These included their new Conan The Barbarian Statue as well as their 1/6 Scale The Thing and American Werewolf in London Figures. However, they had a huge (well tiny for them) surprise on hand as well. They are getting into the 7″ scale figure game! At the event, they had prototypes for 7″ scale American Werewolf in London and The Thing Figures. They will have full details on these new figures in May. They sent out the details on these items in their newsletter:

7″ Action Figures from The Thing and An American Werewolf in London!
Unfortunately we didnt get them painted in time for the show, but we will be doing the full reveal later in May!

12″ Jack & David Figures from An American Werewolf in London!
We are still working on getting the likeness right for the David Naughton figure so please dont judge too harshly just yet!

12″ R.J. MacReady Figure from The Thing!
The figure will come with Flamethrower, dynamite and Spiderhead but not the diorama. That was just for our display at the convention.

1:3 Scale Conan : The Barbarian Statue
This has been refined and repainted since its debut at Wondercon a month ago. Looking even better ! Pre-order info will probably come in 2 weeks.

UPDATE:
A few more photos added, including the 1/6 Scale Alice cooper via NonSoloHobby.

As always, we’ll update our readers as new details become available. See a few photos after the jump.

The Thing 1/6 Scale Figures Officially Announced by Pop Culture Shock

Posted on November 1, 2015 at 7:51 pm by Joe Moore under Horror Toy News

Way back in February, Pop Culture Shock teased a 1/6 Scale R.J. MacReady Figure from John Carpenter’s The Thing. After the initial tease, we didn’t hear anything. they never showed the prototype at any conventions ,and never mentioned it again. Then, earlier this evening, the Pop Culture Shock newsletter came in. It contained the usual updates. Pre-order this, shipping dates on that, etc. I didn’t think there was going to be anything of note. Then, at the very end, they dropped a new preview image…The Thing 1/6 Scale Figures are coming in 2016! A new, shadowy photo of MacReady figure was included with the announcement. As a huge fan of this movie, I’ll be following this closely. We’ll have more as it becomes available.

See the preview after the jump.

Preview of Pop Culture Shock R.J. MacReady Figure from The Thing

Posted on February 25, 2015 at 9:49 am by Joe Moore under Horror Toy News

John Carpenter’s The Thing is my #1 all-time favorite film. Sadly, most toy companies have shied away from collectibles based on the property recently. Back in 2013, Pop Culture Shock teased the license acquisition for The Thing, but we’ve heard nothing since. Thankfully, the folks over at Itakon.it have broken that silence and posted a photo showing the in-progress sculpt for a collectible based on Kurt Russell’s R.J. MacReady. Even better is that they claim this will be for a 1/6 scale figure and not a statue!

The sculpt is still very early in development. We’ll update when more images and info becomes available. Read on to see the image.
