Mandarin Spawn – A Look at the OG 1999 and 2021 Versions

Posted on February 5, 2021 at 4:54 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Spawn Toy News

Mandarin Spawn WM Blue 99 1

Todd McFarlane continues to drop little Spawn nuggets on us with random modern releases of the character in different forms.  We had two Color Tops a couple years ago.  He popped up in MK 11 and had several releases there.  A 12 inch MK 11 Commando Spawn has been shown.  Let’s not forget the Spawn Remastered Kickstarter.  Now, out of the blue, Mandarin Spawn has returned, with his first release as a Walmart exclusive Gold Label figure.    This is a re-imagining of the original figure, who made his first appearance in Spawn #165 via a one shot.  It tells a brutal story of a deformed man being treated horribly in ancient China, given the chance to make a deal with the devil, dies and comes back to get his revenge.

So, today we have a look at the original Mandarin Spawn figure from 1999, and the new 2021 Walmart exclusive version.  I have a running vintage Spawn shelf going here and figured why not, so I picked up the original version on eBay so I could compare the two.  Cracked it fresh 20 years later.  There is a mass release for the new version coming in the traditional red color scheme, but it’s first release is the blue seen here.

Read on to check out shots for both the OG and 2021 versions after the break, along with some quick thoughts, courtesy of McFaralne Toys!

MK11 Spawn Blood Feud Hunter and Mace Variants – In Hand Gallery

Posted on December 7, 2020 at 6:16 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Spawn Toy News

MK11 Spawn Blood Feud Hunter 17

As we finish up our pics for the DC Multiverse Dark Nights Metal figures from McFarlane Toys, time for a quick look at the most recent SPAWN offering!  Mortal Kombat 11 Spawn Blood Feud Hunter is a repaint of the first Spawn they released in alternate colors from the game.  So while it may not make sense on first glance to a Spawn comic reader, it is actually based on a game option.  And there are like 10 more color combos available so… :)  This one has a yellow/white base with red highlights and cape.  He comes with blood on the body and Axe as well.

I have been on a revitalized Spawn kick in recent years, the Color Tops ones got me going again.  Went back and got some vintage pieces, have been super happy with the MK releases, and went all in on the Kickstarter.  So anything Spawn, I’ll take it.    I also ran Spawn pretty hard in MK11 so I am down with the alt color schemes.

In addition to the Blood Feud Hunter version, I also got a hold of the Mace variant that dropped a while ago, so I’ve included that here.  Check out all three (mace, sword, axe) versions together inside.  Both of these are out now so hit our sponsors or your local spots to pick them up!

Read on to check it all out courtesy of McFarlane Toys!

THIRD Mortal Kombat 11 Spawn Variant Revealed – IN HAND

Posted on June 30, 2020 at 10:00 am by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Spawn Toy News, Video Game Toy News

MK11 Spawn Target Axe 12

McFarlane Toys rocked it earlier this year with their MK 11 Spawn figure (check our gallery for it here).  It was the first modern Spawn in with a full range of articulation, and even though it was based on his appearance in the game, it was very faithful to Spawn’s look from the comics.  He came packed with the sword at first, and it sold out quick.  A second run was announced that will be the same figure, but feature the mace.  That is available for order at our sponsors and spots like Amazon.

Now, thanks to a care package from the McFarlane Toys team that showed up today, a THIRD variant has been revealed – same figure – but with the Axe.  All three of these weapons are featured in the game, and one of his grab moves actually has him pulling these from the Necrovoid out of thin air and plowing them into your opponent in succession.  So the fact you can now recreate that if you get all three is pretty cool.

The Axe variant will be a Target store exclusive in the US and is due to hit stores in early August.  No word yet if/when they will go online for ordering.

We cracked our copy open this morning and ran some quick basic shots to show off the new Axe and compare him with the first release. Read on to check it all out!  We will run him for a full gallery early next week, stay tuned!

Update – we’ve updated with a few more shots of AxeSpawn, and color corrected our original shots a tad.

McFarlane Toys Mortal Kombat 11 SPAWN In-Hand Gallery! (And All 6 MK 11 Figures Too)

Posted on March 6, 2020 at 2:30 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Spawn Toy News, Video Game Toy News

Mortal Kombat Spawn

A figure I’ve been waiting for years to get a hold of is finally in-hand!  That being – a modern, articulated, bad ass representation of SPAWN.  To celebrate the arrival of Spawn to the Mortal Kombat universe this weekend at the eSports tournament Final Kombat – McFarlane Toys have made a version of Spawn in figure form.  They are also doing the mainline Mortal Kombat 11 collector figures so he’s technically the MK11 version of him.  All in all though, it’s a pretty faithful representation of modern SPAWN so he can easily slide into your collection regardless of your MK11 interest.

Of note – Todd McFarlane will be at Final Kombat this weekend for the official drop of Spawn in the game.

That’s not all folks! Todd McFarlane (who recently broke the Guinness World Record with SPAWN for the “longest-running creator-owned superhero comic book series”) has been invited as a special guest to attend Final Kombat 2020, the championship finale of the Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition esports series. This is where the top Mortal Kombat 11 players from around the world will compete on March 8 at Chicago’s historic Park West Theater for their share of the $100,000 prize pool.

The Final Kombat event programming will feature an exclusive first look of the Mortal Kombat 11 Official SPAWN Gameplay Trailer and an appearance by actor Keith David, who is the voice of Spawn in Mortal Kombat 11.

At Final Kombat, fans will have the opportunity to order the McFarlane Toys SPAWN Mortal Kombat Action Figure, as well as have their favorite figures and comics signed at a FREE-FAN SIGNING! There will also be a SPAWN themed photo-booth for fans to take pictures commemorating their on-site experience.

Final Kombat will be livestreamed globally across all Mortal Kombat 11 channels, including Twitch (NetherRealm), YouTube (Mortal Kombat), Mixer (NetherRealm), Twitter (@MortalKombat), Facebook (@MortalKombat) and Steam (Mortal Kombat 11).

As a special treat, Spawn will be available early exclusively at Walmart on March 8th. McFarlane Toys even shared a list of the stores that will be carrying it here. He’ll be available everywhere else on March 13th.

We’ve run him and all 6 other Mortal Kombat 11 figures including the recently released Raiden and Johnny Cage from McFarlane Toys through a big gallery session after the break.   Read on to check it all out, including some additional thoughts on SPAWN!

Spawn Action Figure Retrospective – McFarlane Toys Throwback Thursday!

Posted on October 25, 2018 at 3:26 pm by Tony_Bacala under Horror Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Spawn Toy News

Time for a walk down memory lane with a true Throwback Thursday gallery here at Toyark!  Today we are going to take a look a wide selection of McFarlane Toys Spawn figures.  With all the talk of sculpt and paint in our modern action figures, I kept running into shots of Spawn figs around the internets and thought, man those can hold their own today.  So I set out on a mission to acquire the ones I thought were fire.  The ones I chose go back as far as 1996, though most are in the early-mid 2000s.  McFarlane was never known for articulation, and I knew that going in.  These are poseable statues, at their best.  They look great on a shelf bundled together, and the sculpt/paint combo on them all is top notch.  They also photograph super well, very fun to play around with that way as you’ll see inside.

I had just started my goal of figuring out what was what, finding and buying them when Todd McFarlane himself dropped a nugget in an interview saying they are going back to their roots, doing more Spawn figures, Tortured Souls, Movie Maniacs.  These were all awesome lines, and many pieces still hold up.  So the timing couldn’t be better for this retrospective.  Read on to check out over 75 HD images of the Spawn figures I think still kick ass today!

Commando Spawn – Regular and Scorched Earth Variant In-Hand Gallery

Posted on October 26, 2017 at 3:36 pm by Tony_Bacala under Horror Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Spawn Toy News

Back in late 2016 McFarlane Toys dropped the first new Spawn figure in years. It was a 7 inch Color Tops version of Spawn in his classic get up titled Spawn Rebirth. It had limited articulation but a fantastic sculpt and paint. Fast forward almost a year and their next entry into the new Spawn figureverse is here, Commando Spawn. Color Tops may be done as a name, but the 7 inch scale figures with minimal to average articulation are still going strong. Commando Spawn does indeed have more articulation than the previous one, but it is still a static pose base sculpt with articulation added in after the fact. Accepting that for what it is, it is another excellent piece. Sculpt is again top notch, paint is again superb – on both versions. Along with the base Commando Spawn, there is a variant Scorched Earth version which has a weathered bronze statue vibe. We have both of these in hand, read on to check out over 85 HD pictures of them in action after the break!

Spawn Rebirth – McFarlane Color Tops In-Hand Gallery

Posted on December 19, 2016 at 10:30 am by Tony_Bacala under Horror Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Spawn Toy News

McFarlane Color Tops are the company’s current line of figures, featuring characters from all different properties that McFarlane Toys own or have licenses for. They’re 7 Inch scale, intricately sculpted and painted and come with a base. Each wave is packaged in a different color topped box making it easy to find on the shelves. While many will focus on The Walking Dead, Assassin’s Creed and others, the one I was most looking forward to since Toy Fair was Spawn. I was a casual collector of Spawn figures in the late 90s and early 00s. I rocked that HBO series like no one’s business. So, now that I’ve hit a point where I am collecting multiple lines and have space to display all this stuff, it was time to get some Spawn back on the shelf!  Number 10 for the Color Tops series is the Spawn Rebirth figure, he’s the first Spawn figure to release in over a decade.  We have him in hand, let’s take a look along with some additional thoughts after the break!
