Jiren was the big bad of the final Dragonball Super chapter, giving Goku a powered up opponent worthy of battle. And now he’s joined the Dragonball ranks in S.H. Figuarts. Jiren dropped earlier this year, but just like last year, I’m running a bit behind getting all these guys. I recently got Ultra Instinct Goku, and couldn’t wait anymore picking up Jiren, they need to battle! Jiren is rocking his bulky frame, 4 sets of hands – one of which has Goku’s blue hair bangs attached so you can show him gripping up the Saiyan, 4 heads, a set of folded arms, energy fist and flame effect for that fist. We’ve run him through the motions and added him to our Dragonball galleries, so read on to check him out along with some additional thoughts courtesy of TheToySource!
NECA is going to be unveiling, what was to be, their San Diego Comic-Con 2020 Exclusives soon. The first one leaked via Walmart today, so I have received permission to share my advanced gallery with you all! The first of their exclusives is a Gremlin inspired by a classic movie advertisement. The Unofficial Summer Games Gremlin features Stripe with an Olympic Torch and swimming gear. The swimming gear includes goggles with a snorkeling tube, swim trunks, and a pair of flippers. Like I said, this leaked out at a Walmart store a bit early. However, fans worldwide will have a shot at owning one of these figures, even if you can’t make it to a Walmart store. Here’s the official release info direct from NECA:
Release Date – July 23, 2020
Available in Walmart Stores on Thursday(7/23) – $29.96 USD
Available online (US & International) through TheNecaStore.com on Thursday(7/23) – $34.99 USD
Note: Some stores may have inventory ahead of scheduled date
Our friends at NECA were kind enough to send us an early sample of the figure. After the jump, you can see my photo gallery of the new Summer Games Gremlin.
How about the lining? Tactical. John Wick is back for another round with Diamond Select Toys Select series of figures with Tactical John Wick from Chapter 2. This features Mr. Wick in his all black suit – Italian, 2 buttons, tapered legs and “tactical” lining, of course. He comes packed with a ton of accessories this go around – Assault rifle, weapon belt with 2 removable pistols, 2 removable clips and another clip for the rifle, wooden case with another pistol and clips, a 4th solo pistol, gold coins, extra hands that hold a coin and the infamous pencil, his trusty dog – Dog, and a life size blood oath marker. We’ve run it through a session to show off what he’s capable of. Read on to check it and some additional thoughts out courtesy of Diamond Select Toys!
McFarlane Toys rocked it earlier this year with their MK 11 Spawn figure (check our gallery for it here). It was the first modern Spawn in with a full range of articulation, and even though it was based on his appearance in the game, it was very faithful to Spawn’s look from the comics. He came packed with the sword at first, and it sold out quick. A second run was announced that will be the same figure, but feature the mace. That is available for order at our sponsors and spots like Amazon.
Now, thanks to a care package from the McFarlane Toys team that showed up today, a THIRD variant has been revealed – same figure – but with the Axe. All three of these weapons are featured in the game, and one of his grab moves actually has him pulling these from the Necrovoid out of thin air and plowing them into your opponent in succession. So the fact you can now recreate that if you get all three is pretty cool.
The Axe variant will be a Target store exclusive in the US and is due to hit stores in early August. No word yet if/when they will go online for ordering.
We cracked our copy open this morning and ran some quick basic shots to show off the new Axe and compare him with the first release. Read on to check it all out! We will run him for a full gallery early next week, stay tuned!
Update – we’ve updated with a few more shots of AxeSpawn, and color corrected our original shots a tad.
S.H. Figuarts is back with another Harley Quinn offering, this go round from the Birds of Prey movie. She had a LOT of outfit changes in the flick, but this is her end of movie get up of a gold jumper, pink shirt, and skates. She comes packed with 3 heads, a mallet, skates and 4 total sets of hands. One of her heads and one set of hands have her trusty lollipop built in. Overall it’s a very faithful representation of this look in the movie. Their Suicide Squad Harley was one of the best representations of that look and the actress’ likeness. This comes close, but not quite as good. Her standard smile face is close in some angles, while the lollipop one is close in others. No perfect score across all three though.
Modern DCEU Harley splits folks in the fandom, even though everyone pretty much agrees Margot Robbie is perfect for the role. Hopefully they give it another crack down the road, and we get some more toys! Personally, I’d prefer the poofy police tape jacket look, or the getup as she enters the police station with the hat since that has some Animated call backs. But for what this is, it’s done well.

Mattel is back with another round of Masters of the Universe / WWE crossover action! Wave 3 of MOTWWEU features 4 more figures adding to the ranks. The Rock has no specific crossover, but features electric effects for the wrist, championship belt, He-Man-esque chest armor and a Man At Arms style club. Braun Strowman is a Beast Man homage, featuring his chest and shoulder armor along with some Terror Claws that have been used several times so far. The New Day is a Man-E-Faces homage, featuring a spinning head sculpt with 3 dead on likenesses to all members of the team. The helmet is classic Man-E-Faces, and now features a slight side-to-side swivel along with the face spins. Rounding things out is The Undertaker – I don’t see parts which are specific to MOTU but I don’t have everything memorized so if you see a homage there let us know. He does glow in the dark though, well, featuring an eerie milky white plastic when not lit up. EDIT – Duh, he homages Scare Glow in the staff, the GITD angle and the tats under the armor. Shout to Pravus Prime on that.
All in all another fun round! These brands work surprisingly well together. For fans of vintage MOTU or the MOTU Origins line coming later this year – parts swapping and custom materials are plenty with these WWE versions. Read on to check some pics showing off what they can do after the break, courtesy of Mattel!
In 2017, director Andy Muschietti delivered a terrifying new take on Stephen King’s iconic novel; IT. The film chronicled the early parts of the book, featuring a group of kids known as The Losers Club, taking on an otherworldly clown known a Pennywise. Two years later, the story was completed when IT Chapter 2 was released. In the film, Pennywise returns to Derry 27 years after being defeated by the kids of The Losers Club. When the now grown up group learns that Pennywise has returned, they have to honor their pact. The emotionally scarred crew heads home, where they must face their old fears, and a Pennywise who is more powerful and dangerous than he has ever been.
NECA is releasing a new figure based on Pennywise from the film. The new figure features four interchangeable head sculpts, multiple interchangeable hands, and a balloon accessory. While they released multiple figures from the first film, it sounds like this may be the lone release for IT Chapter 2. Our friends at NECA have sent the figure over for us to check out. You can see my photo gallery and review after the jump.
Time to take a look at another Extreme Sets Pop Up Diorama – The Dojo 2. Their first Dojo set was solid, a perfect set with inspiration from classic Bruce Lee movies. This version takes those same themes and expands them into a more detailed & unique option. It comes with 5 panels, a floor, and a 3D emblem hanging between posts. There is a custom dragon logo on all panels, with an overall tone of yellow and red. Banners hang around the top of each wall, with traditional Asian paneling below. Overall it gets the job done with a bit more color and detail, a great option for our martial arts figures.
This is in stock now over at Extreme-Sets.com along with the other Multiverse Wave 8 sets. We’ll be looking at some more from wave 8 soon too! Read on to check out the Dojo though courtesy of Extreme Sets!
While delayed about a year, the Alien 40th Anniversary celebration is now officially underway from NECA. In Alien, the crew of the USCSS Nostromo investigate, what they believe to be a distress beacon on an uninhabited moon. When Kane, one of their crew, is brought back unconscious with an alien parasite attached to his face, the crew unknowingly invites a hostile life-form onto their ship. Shortly after Kane awakens, a small creature bursts from his chest, and begins to grow rapidly. The surviving crew is left to battle the ferocious alien creature. The creature takes out the crew in a series of violent attacks, leaving Ellen Ripley as the last serving crew-member of the ship, narrowly escaping and forever left to battle the creatures.
For the line up, NECA is mixing all-new new figures in with updated re-releases of a few others. In total, there are three series of figure. Series 1, which we are taking a look at today, is exclusive to Target stores. This assortment includes Ellen Ripley, Arthur Dallas, and a Prototype suit Big chap Alien. Series 2 will be a more widely available release, as those will be available via online shops and “Mom & Pop” retail stores in July. The second assortment includes all-new figures of Samuel Brett and Dennis Parker, along with a blood covered Big Chape Alien. Finally, Series 3 will be coming to Walmart stores soon after that. The final assortment includes an all-new Ash, a Gilbert Kane with the actors likeness, and a Big Chap Alien.
Our friends at NECA have sent over the Alien Series 1 Figures to review. After the jump, you can read my thoughts on the figures, and check out my photo gallery. Look for this assortment to hit stores before the end of the month.
We are back with another Extreme Sets gallery, this time it’s for their MASSIVE Arena 3.0 set. Extreme Sets started off way back when doing items for wrestling figures, before they moved into the full scope of action figure dioramas. Arena 3.0 takes this to a new level. It’s double stacked tall at 3 feet, and 7 feet wide, I couldn’t even fully extend it on my photo staging area, which is pretty big! Wrapping this around a ring will allow you to fully recreate the vibe of being in an arena while you figures battle it out. From the photography standpoint, it’s also great because you can get those epic shots pointing up into the ring while still filling the background with crowd. Something new this round is also separate ringside stands with layered people, all using stock photography. This adds another round of realism, and works especially well in photography when they are blurred out, much better than the cartoony outlines on the last one.
In conjunction with the Extreme Sets Arena 3.0 shoot here, we also ran the recently released WWE Elite Series 76 figures. Wrestling isn’t our normal angle here, but we figured since Arena 3.0 was in the house let’s give them a spin! Included are John Cena, Braun Strowman, Tucker and Otis (Heavy Machinery), Lacey Evans, and Christian from his Brood days. There is also a Christian variant in a black shirt, which is what we got actually and is featured here. I can’t speak to specifics regarding Elite and what’s expected by long time fans, but they were well executed from a technical point of view, nice range of articulation and the TruFX faces came through. Christian in this era was from my last run in WWE land, so researching and setting up some Brood entrance shots was a fun trip down memory lane. Now I want a modern Gangrel and Brood Edge!
Read on to check it all out, courtesy of Extreme Sets and Mattel, respectively. Both are in stock and shipping now!
