Mattel SDCC Slaughter Scareglow

Taking a quick look today at some of the Mattel SDCC 2021 Exclusives.  They were kind enough to send a promo box through for us to check out.  This arrived just this week, so we haven’t had time to fully photograph everything yet.  Since the sales start for these items tomorrow we figured we’d share out what we have done so far in case you guys want to check them before you try to buy.  Included inside are semi-thorough white BG shots of Scareglow and Sgt. Slaughter, along with a few for the Star Wars Hot Wheels, MEGA Battle Labbit, and the Jurassic Park Ray Arnold 3.75 Set.

Read on to check them all out, and make sure to try for them tomorrow over at Mattel Creations.  These will be available starting tomorrow at 9am PST / 12pm EST.  Good luck to all!

MOTU Masterverse He Man Grayskull

I need a HER-O! I can’t get that song out of my head after watching the trailer for Netflix’s Masters of the Universe Revelation series about 20 times. Fitting because yesterday Mattel landed a box of goodies here with all of the Wave 1 Masterverse figures!  This is Mattel’s new collector line for He-Man, an all encompassing line of 7 inch figures at retail stores which will eventually touch multiple different eras of the MOTU lore.  It is starting out with figures for Revelation since the series is about to drop.   Included in wave 1 is He-Man, Battle Cat, Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Moss Man, and the new Skelegod – a powered up version of Skeletor.

We’ve run a set of basic+ shots for everyone here, so read on to check out what these guys can do along with some additional thoughts on the line overall!

MOTU Origins – New Castle Grayskull, Land Shark, Tri-Klops and MOTWWEU Wave 5

Posted on April 29, 2021 at 4:08 pm by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

MOTU April 2021

Time for a catch up set for some recently released MOTU themed items from Mattel.  This isn’t everything that’s just released, just a little sample.  The main thing I was excited to get a hold of and run for some photos was the new MOTU Origins Castle Grayskull.  On first glance to a casual fan – it’s Castle Grayskull.  But really it’s an all new mold, everything inside is redone.  It’s completely in scale with vintage and Origins.   Key point being that when closed and on display, the front is remolded to be more in tune with the Classics version.  Gone is the deformed looking face with black marks, hello crispy clean skull face.

In addition to Grayskull we also took a look at the Land Shark vehicle, Tri-Klops, Deluxe Clamp Champ, and MOTWWEU Wave 5.  That included Roddy Piper, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, Macho Man, and Becky Lynch.  All in the MOTU Orgins body style with MOTU style armor.  That line just continues to work!

So, read on to check out our shots which come courtesy of Mattel.  These are all out now or will be soon, hit your online and local retailers to grab your copies as you can!

Shogun Masters Skeletor – New Shogun Warriors Style MOTU Line – In Hand!

Posted on April 19, 2021 at 11:03 am by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

x Shogun Masters Skeletor 61

This one came out of left field this weekend – a nice promotional box from Mattel arrived hyping their new Shogun Masters line with none other than Skeletor!  This is a re-imagining of the Shogun Warriors line that Mattel did in the 70s which imported Japanese mecha under one banner here in the US, but with a Masters of the Universe theme.  What would happen if Skeletor got his hands on Shogun tech?  Here you go.

We’ve run the figure for a full set of pics after the break, read on for those and some additional thoughts.   The figure will be going up on MattelCreations.com and is listed as “soon” in the UP NEXT category.  Keep your eyes peeled for the drop!

UPDATE:
The product page is now live at Mattel Creations.

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 4 In-Hand Gallery

Posted on October 8, 2020 at 5:17 pm by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

x motu wwe 4

Masters of the WWE Universe (MOTWWEU) – the crossover line featuring wrestling superstars in vintage MOTU bodies is back with a 4th wave and no sign of slowing down!  This round again features a mix of legends and current stars – Jake The Snake Roberts, Mr. T, The Fiend and Seth Rollins all get a turn.  Jake The Snake features a battle armor chest plate, his trusty Snake, and removable Jake face revealing a Snake Face homage underneath.  Mr. T homages Jitsu with a golden gauntlet and chest armor, plus one more Fisto gauntlet for the other hand.  The Fiend gets a boss leather jacket and Trap Jaw weapons for his hands.  Lastly Seth Rollins gets Zodak chest armor and a Draego-Man sword.

All in all a great wave.  Mr. T in this style of figure is pure win, it oozes 80s all over the place.  Jake The Snake is also executed perfectly, the hidden Snake Face deco underneath just nails it.  The Fiend pretty much doesn’t need a homage, he belongs in Eternia already.  Seth Rollins is clean and good for the younger generation.  Once again, lots of molding for future MOTU Origins figures are worked in here if they decide to go that deep with it.

We’ve run the wave after the break, check out 30 HD shots courtesy of Mattel!

MOTU Origins Gallery – He-Man, Skeletor, Battle Cat and Sky Sled

Posted on August 3, 2020 at 4:56 pm by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

MOTU Origins Splash

Masters of the Universe is back on retail shelves with the new line from Mattel titled Masters of the Universe Origins (MOTUO).  The line debuted last year at SDCC with a launch 2 pack featuring He-Man and Prince Adam in a sweet box (see our gallery here).  Now the first round are hitting Wal-Marts exclusively with the intent to release via more retailers next year.

The Origins line over all is a re-imagining of vintage He-Man figures with updated articulation and paint.  Each now get removable hands, joints in the elbows and knees, swivels at the boots, neck and ankle articulation. All while keeping the basic form factor from the original toys.  Packaging is also a vintage throwback.  The basic bodies and gear are also used on the MOTWWEU cross over figures.

We have a batch of the first round in hand.  He-Man, Skeletor, Battle Cat, Prince Adam and the Sky Sled are all available after the break.  We also got our hands on the Eternia Minis, which are blind box style figures in  a plastic Castle Grayskull shell.  These are even smaller versions of the MOTU minis from 2013(ish), (see our gallery for the SDCC set here).  Read on to check it all out courtesy of Mattel!

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 3 In-Hand Gallery

motwweu wave 3

Mattel is back with another round of Masters of the Universe / WWE crossover action!  Wave 3 of MOTWWEU features 4 more figures adding to the ranks.  The Rock has no specific crossover, but features electric effects for the wrist, championship belt, He-Man-esque chest armor and a Man At Arms style club.  Braun Strowman is a Beast Man homage, featuring his chest and shoulder armor along with some Terror Claws that have been used several times so far. The New Day is a Man-E-Faces homage, featuring a spinning head sculpt with 3 dead on likenesses to all members of the team.  The helmet is classic Man-E-Faces, and now features a slight side-to-side swivel along with the face spins.  Rounding things out is The Undertaker – I don’t see parts which are specific to MOTU but I don’t have everything memorized so if you see a homage there let us know.   He does glow in the dark though, well, featuring an eerie milky white plastic when not lit up.  EDIT – Duh, he homages Scare Glow in the staff, the GITD angle and the tats under the armor.  Shout to Pravus Prime on that.

All in all another fun round!  These brands work surprisingly well together.  For fans of vintage MOTU or the MOTU Origins line coming later this year – parts swapping and custom materials are plenty with these WWE versions.  Read on to check some pics showing off what they can do after the break, courtesy of Mattel!

x MOTWWEU Wave 2

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 2 has dropped!  This is Mattel’s WWE and Masters of the Universe crossover line, using the new MOTU Origins style bodies.  For those who don’t know, Origins are vintage He-Man style bodies with added articulation.  Before MOTU Origins fully hits, they’ve been using the body style for this line, mixing up WWE Superstars and MOTU characters.  This wave has four pieces – Macho Man Randy Savage with Man At Arms callbacks, Rey Mysterio Jr. with Stratos pieces, John Cena Faker He-Man style, and Roman Reigns with Fisto elements.  In Package the MOTU elements are more hidden, but once out of the box they really show off their crossover feels.

MOTU collectors should note that the parts needed for future Origins characters not yet announced are being worked in here, so the designs are ready to go if/when they get there.

We’ve run these guys through a quick gallery. They are hitting Walmart now, where they are exclusive to.   Read on to check the shots courtesy of Mattel!

Masters of the Universe Collector’s Choice William Stout Collection – Toyark Photo Shoot

Posted on January 20, 2020 at 5:55 pm by Joe Moore under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

MOTU Movie 044

In what was to be one of their final 7″ scale Masters of the Universe releases, Super7 offered fans the chance to own a great assortment of figures based on William Stout’s production artwork for the Masters of the Universe film from 1987. The set offered fans three new figures, and a repaint of an existing mold. The figures included He-Man, Skeletor, Karg, and God Skeletor. Fans who have been collecting the Masters of the Universe Classics from Mattel and Super7 will be able to join these up with previous movie releases, such as Gwildor, Blade, and Saurod for a more complete movie line. The new figures began hitting inboxes last week, and I’ve put together a new photo shoot to showcase the figures. After the jump, check out my thoughts on the releases, and a full gallery.

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 1 & Grayskull Mania Ring In-Hand Gallery

Posted on January 8, 2020 at 4:01 pm by Tony_Bacala under Masters Of The Universe Toy News, Random Photo Shoot, Wrestling Toy News

MOTWWEU

One of the surprises from SDCC 2019 was that not only was Mattel relaunching MOTU in a new retro format with WWE Origins, but that they were taking that body style and applying it to the WWE universe in a big cross over.  Titled Masters of the WWE Universe – the mash up takes MOTU vintage style bodies, with the new articulation points seen on Origins figures, and works WWE personalities into the mix.

Each are decked out with armor and weapons like a MOTU figure would be, all while keeping their unique WWE traits.   Cena gets a He-Man sword and shield plus his chest armor, while keeping his trademark jorts and fade.  HHH gets a celtic themed skull helmet and hammer inspired by his crazy ring entrances.  And so on.  To go along with all this, they also put out a Grayskull inspired ring with green rocky sides and skull based ring posts, complete with two additional figures (Cena and an alt HHH).  These are all Wal-Mart exclusives in the USA, and are available now.

I really enjoyed the Origins He-Man set from SDCC, and I like the idea.  I do think some refinement will be welcome, and they have some time to do that.  This extension is not something I would jump in on normally, but they are cool for what they are, and introduces the format to a younger generation.  Plus, for MOTU customizers, I can see these bodies and parts working wonders.

Mattel sent through the first wave and the ring to check out, so we’ve run them through some pics to show what they can do.  Check it all out after the break, and hit Walmart if you dig em!
