DC Multiverse Killer Croc Batman 80th Wave & DC Originals Gallery

Posted on August 26, 2019 at 4:04 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Multiverse Killer Croc Wave 128

The end is nigh!  DC Comics Multiverse from Mattel is coming to a close, and the last rounds of figures are dropping now.  Today we have a look at 2 waves* – The Multiverse Killer Croc Connect and Connect wave, also titled Batman 80th, and the DC Originals Wave which are ToyBiz tribute figures.  The Killer Croc wave consists of Dick Grayson as Batman, Alfred, Red Robin, Red Hood, KG Beast and Katana, with the CnC being a comic inspired Killer Croc.  The DC Originals tribute figures are Target exclusives in the US and consist of Batman, Joker and Poison Ivy.

The Killer Croc Wave is well done, one of the most well rounded selections Mattel has offered.  The winner of the wave is Alfred, not for engineering sake, though that is solid, but the fact it comes with 4 heads, all of which nail the likeness for the era it belongs to.  Runner up is Red Robin – he has true double jointed elbows and a streamlined tight sculpt.  If this was the route Mattel was going to go, Multiverse would have gotten real good, real fast next year.  Red Hood is a tad disappointing – his guns are molded into the holsters, even though he comes with gun holding extra hands.   His helmet is a tad big for the body too.  The rest of the wave is above average, great roster fillers.   To cap it off, a comic inspired Killer Croc is the CnC, and it is BIG.  And well done – colors, sculpt, articulation is all there.  I have a feeling this will be the Croc to match for a while.

The Originals figures – solid but not as good as they looked when originally shown at Toy Fair 2019.  Poison Ivy especially suffered being translated from proto to production level.  If you are looking for nostalgia, they fit that bill, but they weren’t my cup of tea.

Now, there is at least one more wave of figures that hit the proto stage – The Batman Ninja Joker CnC wave.  This had Black Canary, Hawkgirl, Simon Baz Green Lantern, Flashpoint Aquaman, Rebirth Mammoth, and a Riddler Retro/Originals figure.  Whether these will hit market before the license ends we aren’t sure.  Right now, no word and no solicitations are out there.

So, to potentially cap things off for Mattel’s Multiverse figures, read on to check out our gallery for these 10 figures with over 125 HD shots after the break courtesy of Mattel!

Mattel SDCC Batman Giant Sized Box Set Gallery

Posted on August 16, 2019 at 3:18 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Batman SDCC 80th

Time for a quick look at a set from SDCC we didn’t get a chance to shoot before the show – the Mattel DC Comics Multiverse Giant Size Batman Box Set. This is a set of 4 Batman figures, all the same mold, in different wacky color schemes all coming straight from the comics. On top of the 4 base Batmen, it comes with 4 additional accessories that allow you to turn the base Batman into 4 MORE obscure versions from comic lore. And since they are all the same mold, you can utilize them on any of the 4. It’s a well done crazy set, especially for those that have a deep Batman shelf and are looking for something different to mix things up. One of the highlights is the Bruce Wayne head, it’s a great rendition that can be used on other Batman figs for sure assuming the pegs fit. The packaging is also top notch, outer and inner box both well constructed, the figures display well inside, and it features great artwork throughout.

We’ve run the set, check out 70 HD images after the break courtesy of Mattel!

DC Comics Multiverse Wave 12 (Batman Ninja) In-Hand Gallery

Posted on June 24, 2019 at 4:47 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Multiverse Wave 12 999

Time for another round of DC Comics Multiverse from Mattel as we march to the epic conclusion of the line! Wave 12 is the Batman Ninja wave and consists of TV Black Lighting, Rebirth Jon Stewart Green Lantern, along with Titans Nightwing, Starfire, Beast Boy and Wally West (red hair) Kid Flash. The Collect N Connect is Batman Ninja. All are in 6 Inch scale and feature Mattel’s recent levels of articulation which is very solid – double jointed, swivel cuts, rocker feet and the like. Paint is solid for a mass release retail figure on them all, with Black Lightning getting a more complicated sculpt and paint application to match the TV show look. The rest are simple by design and executed appropriately.

Batman Ninja however really shines, he has ornate sculpt and paint to match head to toe and a rubberized cape that moves with posing. Articulation is great allowing for a wide range of elbow movement to compliment the sword. While it isn’t as refined as import versions already on market, it is a really nice figure in hand all together and worthy of attention. IMO, he’s just about the right for the character being a secondary option that only some will be into. The only downsides are that the cape can not be removed without losing the head, and the sheath for the sword does not attach to the body.

All in all a solid wave, especially for the Titans love. These guys are out now, hit our sponsors below along with sites like Amazon and eBay. Read on to check out over 120 HD images of the entire wave thanks to Mattel!
