Uhhh, yeah. Well, this certainly may not play too well with some fans. While the sculpt isn’t the worst for this mold’s third iteration of use, it hasn’t exactly aged well due to its somewhat diminutive stature as a BAF turned singular release (BAF Abomination, then Raft Abomination) and that’s without mentioning those knees.

Most casual fans will be fine with this because many don’t see much of a difference between Ch’od and Blonsky in their respective Marvel designs. That said, there are differences that separate the two which should have found their way onto this sculpt. I think the size will be more of a disappointment than anything else, but there will likely also be lamentations of the fact that the only distinguishing differences between the Ch’od and the Abomination figures are a head, a belt, and paint. I don’t remember what new tooling exists for this X-wave beyond Chamber, but I don’t believe that there was enough to warrant a near complete re-use for the BAF. I’d sooner accept a retool of this mold to create an Abomb, but even then, I’d have some druthers going unmet.

The principal question that arises for me revolves around: why now? If Hasbro intended to reuse that Abomination body, why wait all these years to do so? Surely this would have been better received had it shown up sooner than 6-7 years out. Additionally, with the knowledge that some were unhappy with the initial Abomination, why not take this opportunity to cobble a new body for future reuse, or, at the very least, repurpose the Gamerverse version? The Gamerverse BAF was far more satisfying in scale and deserves a better repurpose.

I understand some of the reasons why they might’ve taken this route: the striations on the chest providing that banded/corrugated look and cost/effort saving. But I was hoping for something more, something new. Oh, well…

I don't know why you're shocked by this. It's the 60th anniversary of the X-Men and it's time to spam the shelves with even more X-Characters than you already have. Reusing the Abomination body was your only chance at playing with Marvel's Ch'od because new BAF parts ain't happening.

It's. Only. Going. To. Get. Worse.

I have lots of Marvel Legends. I enjoyed collecting the line for many years. But no longer. One only has to look at how amazingly awesome the GI Joe Classified series is and then look at what Hasbro is churning out at the same exact price point. ML is becoming a dollar store line now in comparison. Just zero effort is being placed into the brand while prices keep increasing.

And yeah, I know that Hasbro has to pay large licensing fees for Marvel whereas GI Joe is an in-house brand, but I couldn't care less.

And don't get me started on the stupid new windowless packaging, which is like pissing in collectors' mouths when they're down.

Besides, other than one or two obscure characters I've like to have figures of (*cough* Death's Head 1 *cough*), pretty much every Marvel superhero that I'd want a figure of has been covered already.

I mean, the laziness is summed up in this pic...the photographer didn't even catch the belt getting caught on the thigh and pulling it completely out of place. Lame.

This is a below lazy repaint, low effort figure from Hasblow. I think fans are peeved with the boxes and price increases.

I was barely in at 22. My local target has then at 29 dollars. They can keep peg warming.

No shit Sherlock, it’s been “worse” for some time now.

I know your schtick is to show up only when people are expressing their dissatisfaction and offer what you believe to be sage corrective (and oft times abrasive/anti-social/edge-lordy) commentary, but describing what I wrote as “shocked” is a tad hyperbolic.

I‘m not shocked. No one that collects action figures is surprised by reuse, especially not people that collect Marvel Legends. Also, new BAF parts aren't unusual: Armadillo, Bonebreaker, and Sugar Man demonstrate the fact that they are willing to make new BAF parts. My question regarding timing has nothing to do with anniversary promotions. Nor is it about Hasbro’s obvious intentions to milk the cash-cow that is the X-men….they’ve been doing this for years on both fronts. When I say – Why now? – I’m specifically referring to the use of an Abomination body years later after the jury is in and it has all but been confirmed that this mold isn’t a fan favorite.

Reuse is ubiquitous within the industry, but this was an opportunity to move forward with said reuse creating something new now that could be repurposed for a future Abomination, or Abomb. They’ve done this as of late; I knew the 2pack MCU Logan would be repurposed as a beefy thug down the line just as I expected the Jigsaw body to get quick reuse (Mr. Knight). Most of us understand Hasbro and have some sense of why they do what they do, but, conversely, Hasbro should have some understanding of the fanbase and be able to predict what is going to hit vs what will simply annoy.

Some of the understanding that I’m alluding to was evident in Dan’s tepid tweet – “Some news tomorrow morning to hopefully – maybe – make your Monday more marvelous.” Lol he knew! He knew that people were going to roll their eyes at this and was nearly apologetic in marketing this announcement. This seeming admission is what frustrates me. If you know better, do better…and they definitely know better.

But whatevers. I don’t have to buy this. And if I do elect to purchase one, it won’t be at retail. They missed the boat on tooling a BAF that they could have used for the Abomination, Abomb, Amphibian of the Hulk Hunters (maybe), etc.

It wasn't even 28.99... it was some crazy price s. Depending on which Legends Figure it cost more. For example wolvering costs 29 and another figure from same wave will cost 27.

But that's only at certain Targets, depending on locations. The MSRP of Marvel Legends remain $24.99...that I know of. But I've noticed certain Targets at certain locations mark them up. If you can find it online, you can ask them to price match it, or buy it and then go to a "regular price" Target and ask them to price adjust.

So that's a Target issue, not a Hasbro issue.

I'm no Marvel collector, but I'm always checking all the news on Tfw2005 (I'm primarily Transformers and Star Wars) and Toyark. I just wanna know what's the hate on this figure?? I know the reasons you guys are not feeling it but whats reason #1? Is it the lackluster mold, is it Marvel legends fatigue (happened to me years ago) or is it the fact that this isn't Classic Ch'od?

  20. TheBlueMarvel's Avatar TheBlueMarvel says

    01-09-2023, 12:51 PM

    All of the above

EDIT:Sorry, you asked a real question, and I gave a vague answer. For me, the mold is the biggest disappointment. As I mentioned, it’s not exactly a mystery that this particular mold, while serviceable, isn’t exactly ideal from a size standpoint for many of the characters that have sported the body. Some even feel it’s small as a Rhino build. Ch’od is very large. Larger than most Hulks (not all). IMO they should have used this opportunity to create the foundation for a few different large Marvels. AND, even for what this is – one more rehash in an unending parade of rehashes – it’s a lazy AF effort at that with notable departures from canon that would have required little in the way of research and tweaks.

Appreciate the answer! I feel that. RN my biggest dissapointment that matches that is the use of the skinny Hunter body in Star Wars black series for Delta Squad. It's horrendous, I'll attach an image of what we're getting compared to a custom that has the CORRECT proportions we should've gotten

Yeah, again, for me, those photos sum up exactly this scenario. Like WTF??? If you aren’t going to look forward and say, “let’s at least get Abomination and Abomb out of the way making new parts for Ch’od,” then at least be painstaking in your effort to serve us this body for the sixth time. Yes, sixth, soon to be eighth once we get the 2.0 of Ch’od. 2 Rhinos, 2 Abominations, and 2 Uliks have been retailed using variations of the mold. Adding details like three fingers, a decent paint app, proper fins, and fixing the damn Juggernaut belt would have been enough for me to celebrate this with a buy.
