This is going to be EPIC! Can't wait to see The Rock as Black Adam!
The tone of Shazam was so silly, it's hard to imagine how that can be made to dovetail with a really dark, fearsome, serious villain, but it really looks like that's the goal, and yeah, it's exciting.
Although Shazam had its juvenile moments, the stuff involving the Seven Deadly Sins was quite dark and violent (especially when Sivana killed his father).
While he has definitely been traditionally cast as villain, Adam was transitioned into an antihero around the time of 2001-02. He joins the JSA and even empowers a family of his own.
Okay, interesting. Black Adam was always up to no good when I collected comics, although his appearance in one of my favorites, the old 1978 classic "Superman vs. Shazam" crossover, had him subdued by a bad guy worse than he was.
Sounds similar, maybe: an "enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend" scenario.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Adam_(film)
I found the Seven Deadly Sins weak design-wise, but to be fair, it's an understandable dilemma, how to adapt them for computer-generated live action given their cartoony appearance in the original material, and without making them too scary for a general audience. Better IMO would have been to avoid showing them clearly, i.e., keep them largely as an abstraction like the smoke monster from Lost.
My favorite part of Shazam was the time Billy spent with Freddy, trying to figure out his powers.
But then I thought to myself... PLEASE WB! PLEASE! DO NOT HACK JOB THIS MOVIE!! I want it to be amazing. I want them to make a come back. The DCEU has so much to freaking offer, There is NO REASON for Marvel to be so far ahead. DC has some AMAZING characters! Don't get me wrong, I am NOT saying I think any of the movies are bad - because unlike many peoples opinions I THROUGHLY enjoyed each of the movies. I just think they should have went about some things differently - there should have been MORE movies. They should have connected the dots better. The MCU is a perfect example. They gave each character their own story, some of them got trilogies!! They didn't just make a couple movies and say here ya go this is who Thor is, and this is who iron man ia, winter solider, nd Black Panther, etc etc. They didn't just fit it all into BVS, and the Justice league. Cyborg, the Flash, Martian Manhunter, they ALL deserve their OWN EPIC movies, and damnit I think Ray Fisher was awesome, HE DESERVES A MOVIE, not just "cyborg" I want RF to play him more! I just hope they go this route. Because I love DC.
It was all pretty entertaining with the exception of some insinuation that Kahndaq, a fictitious middle-eastern nation, needed an antihero leader like Teth Adam to keep the peace through intimidation and extreme violence. IMO, the overtures were too uncomfortably close to stereotyped clichés attributed to middle-eastern and Muslim cultures and the idea that you need an authoritarian despot to keep the peace. Other than that, the take on Adam from that period made a fan of me.
I hope the Hawkman figure is cool. Need a couple for my Flash Gordon shelf.
Cant wait to see figures
Can't wait to see these. I just started collecting.
I think Dr Fate is going to be a must add for me.

Can’t wait to see the Hawkman figure.
This is weird, we did not even have a trailer yet...
JSA Black Adam stories were awesome. I believe he has had a couple of villainous stints since then, but has mostly been a hero since the mentioned early 2000s. He was recently and may still be a member of the Justice League. Not sure if that storyline is still going on.
Hope we'll also get Isis. At least, I hope she'll have a suit or something cool in the film too.
