News today from Variety that Funko, known for their never ending onslaught of POP! figures in the collectible space (and now a lot more too), has purchased Mondo from Alamo Drafthouse. Mondo made a name producing very limited collectible vinyl pressings of cult classic movies. They moved into other things and most recently have been doing stellar 1/6 scale figures for Masters of the Universe, Marvel’s X-Men, Rick and Morty and more. According the article Funko plans to let Mondo be Mondo, and slowly integrate when it makes sense. Bottom line is Funko now has a foot hold in more traditional action figure space if they choose to expand that area of Mondo’s current line up. Stay tuned for more as they begin the new era of Mondo together.
Funko Acquires Mondo
Uh oh. I know this gonna upset someone I saw describe Mondo as the anti-Funko.
Huh. They both finally got on my nerves enough that I stopped buying their products all together. This somehow seems kind of fitting...
Mondo: overpriced and overrated
The only few Mondo things I wanted to buy was their Masters of the Universe 1:6 stuff but after the Scareglow debacle I decided to jump ship and the Rick and Morty stuff and Funko apparently has the master lisence for Rick and Morty and they have done nothing with it at all. It would be nice to get some Rick and Morty action figures that are actually good. Perhaps, we can get Scareglow released again, in like 20 million different colors now lol.
Funko dipped their toes into traditional action figures though. I have their Savage World horror line and Thundercats. They also did a few waves of Rick and Morty action figures. Granted, with mixed results.
If they could help source materials and bring down the cost of the Mondo 1/6 scale stuff. That'd be great.
I actually like the (non reaction) 3 3/4 stuff funko has made quite a bit. But it seems like it's been years since they put out anything in that scale.
will they still make 1/6 cartoon/video game characters?
i was disappointed with mondos god of war but it is cool to have
LOL never cared or was interested in either company's products, so this literally gives me zero emotions/feels.
God I hate funko. I rarely buy anything mondo has to offer, so they can stay on their side of the street, and I'll stay on mine.
No Go...No Go :^)
Even though I can rarely ever afford Mondo’s products, I do love the skill in their design and sculpts. I’d love to think that Funko will give them a wider reach and audience, but I think it’s more likely that the quality will suffer and then eventually Funko will just scrap the brand.
If Funko can help Mondo get distribution for stuff in Walmart/Target that should help them.
