DC Page Punchers – A Simple Figure and Comic for 10 Bucks

Posted on February 26, 2022 at 5:49 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News

DC Page Punchers 99

McFarlane Toys introduced a new line today in the form of Page Punchers.  This will give you a 5 (or 6) Points of Articulation figure, looking to be between 2.5 to 3 inches tall – AND a full comic book in a protective case.  The combo will be around $9.99 USD.  Shown off were ones for Batman, Superman, The Flash, and Black Adam.  No word yet where these will be available but they seem to be a way to get casual or younger folks into both the comic and toy worlds at once.

Remember when you got a full comic, 6 inch super articulated figure and a base or BAF part for 8 dollars back in '02? I miss those days...

WHY CAN'T McFARLANE DO THINGS IN COMMON SCALES???

If these were 3.75"-4" for the same price, with or without a comic book, I would be in to it. This is such a random size to choose. Maybe Spin Master's deal prevents McFarlane from doing things in that scale? I guess I'll keep buying Spin Master's more articulated figure in that scale for a dollar less...

    Fun idea, poor execution.

    You answered your own question.

Having said that, they should be including smaller page formats rather than full "magazine-size" comics. The size discrepancy between the comics and the figures is just hilarious.

I think the Hush Batman figurine is a downscaled version of the one coming to DC Multiverse, and the cape tease we saw earlier was the big version's cape. It all makes sense!!!

I think this is a nice idea. It'd make for a fun yet cheap gift for someone just starting into comics.

To be clear I am not sure of the scale. My guess based on that video is 2.5 to 3. Could be 3.25 or 3.5. I don't think it's full 3.75 or 4 inch tho. If so, they are dainty.

Make them classic silver/bronze age versions of the characters with classic reprinted comics and I'll buy them. Not interested in these modern versions.

^That. We talked on another thread about resurrecting the old Kenner Super Powers series... <sigh>

Love the concept. Just gonna have to wait and see if he'll get around to making some female characters.

They have a few times already. Kotobukiya made SP statues and Gentle Giant made recreations in micro and jumbo scale. The interest wasnt there

I love the figures, but not a big comic book fan. If these were on retro card backs, they'd be an instant buy for me.

Thanks for backing me up on that. To clarify, if somebody did the same kind of series but UPGRADED with detailed face sculpts and paint that doesn't look goofy and with more realistic head and body proportions (unlike DC Multiverse), I'd jump on that. Another way of putting it would be to see what the people behind the best sculpts for Star Wars Black Series could do with classic DC characters.

    Back in my day,
You used to get a 6 inch action figure with 40 points of articulation, a wall mountable display stand , and a 32 page comic book! with some accessories, those were the days...
Anyway these aren't for me. Why not give normal sized figures a code for an digital comic perhaps ?

Basic 6" DC and Marvel Action Figures for about $10 with at least 9 Points of Articulation would be great
    >>> Looking at Mattel's WWE Basic figures for $10 with 9 PoA...
I'm sure it's the best selling action figure toyline due to best value, which makes it great to gift. Less PoA means more durable for kids, but not at a compromise of the most basic Articulation Yes that includes knees AND elbows!
5 PoA is less than basic, it's an outdated bare minimum PoA figure imho.
Not releasing in the most common accepted scales like 3 3/4 to 4" for smaller figures is a huge mistake and so out of touch...
Same as the DC line from McFarlane, at 6" a whole lot more people would collect it because of scaling it with other properties like Marvel Legends for example...

Sounds like we want different things from an updated SP line lol. I basically want a 3d modern rendition of the Garcia-Lopez art.

The interest wasn't there because that's not the scale or format people wanted! That's like reviving Toys R Us as a furniture store, then saying "well people didn't like it so we're not gonna make a Toys R Us that sells toys!"

Shocker right? Todd make what amounts to statues to push comics??? Honestly if the arms don't even more it's just a statue. Even early 90's figures had shoulder movement.

As has already been noted, McFarlane might be restricted from making action figures in certain scales because Spin Master is already making them.

And even though some people (feels like the same very small group of forum members) want to mix DC with Marvel, Star Wars, GI Joe, etc., as you also wrote in your post, it was the best selling action figure line last year. The ship sailed a long time ago, and McFarlane's not going to start making 6-inch figures all of a sudden.

Yes, I'm aware. I have them listed as such in the Master List. Plus everyone knows we're discussing the main Multiverse line.
