Preview of the Popeye Figures from Boss Fight Studio

When announcing figures, or doing an unveiling, I think companies need to keep in mind that the first questions asked will be size, price, pre-order date, and release date. To leave all of that info out is baffling.
If they're closer to 6" scale (like their Bucky O'Hare and Sam and Max), then I'll at least want Popeye, Bluto, Olive Oyl, and Wimpy. But if they're smaller 3.75" to 4" figures I'll pass.
these look amazing. i'm all in at 4" or 5.5 or 6
Is the Bucky O'hare line dead? I hope these are at least 6". I'm guessing they will be 4" because that's what these guys do.
Boss Fight clarified they are between 5" and 6" tall depending on character.
I was tempted by Mezco's 'Nightmare Fuel' Popeye, also like the Boss Fight ones too.
I was totally taken by surprise when I saw these on Twitter; they look pretty cool, but what does this mean for Mezco's 5-Point Popeye line?
As a popeye fan I'm getting these.
Nice! Popeye, Olive Oyl, Sweat Pea. Hopefully some prototypes look pretty good from the renders. What's with Popeye having hair or red hair? Not feeling what looks like a removeable cap for Popeye. Needs an unopened can of Spinach and Classic white sailor uniform versions too. Excited to see these toon accurate line done for the scale, there's a space reserved next to Inspector Gadget on the shelf.
I've been waiting for these...I'm not sold.

POPEYE NOTES:
THE CHIN: There are two very round balls connected together with the inevitable deep long ravine connecting from the nose to somewhere seemingly way too close to the throat. It's not a Popeye chin, it's an exaggerated babies butt where his whole jaw and chin should be. In all the images I've seen, none of them have such a severe chin indentation with very spherical balls connected.
THE FROWN: Too long. It's about to end up on the backside of his head. It pronounces the odd roundness of the spherical chin nodes in a bad way. It's less of a facial expression and more of a perfectly drawn curved line on his face.
HEAD SHAPE: Thanks to bad chin and features accenting it, the head is looking almost square, rather than, an ovalish rectangle. Every great Popeye image has a very distinct bean like shape. There is a natural flow from the top of the head to the chin. This render looks like multiple components stuck together to form a face.
THE EYES AND BROWS: Feels over done. Too many lines and too thick markings. The left eye expression looks dead rather than complimentary in someway to the right side to create a specific expression.
ALTERNATE HEAD: The open mouth with no color inside? Maybe it's a too be continued thing...but man, it just looks like another weirdly symmetrical shape, colorless, in the form of an open "lady part". That chin brings the mouth expression down even further. The mouth is hiding behind yet another hideous indentation at the top of the round chin node. THE HAIR...couldn't find an image of Popeye like that anywhere. Someone said Robin Williams. That has to be the best guess. I love Robin, but no, the red hair is bad, and so was the movie. I wouldn't use that head, which means I don't get the perk of having a second expression because of an unnecessarily major design decision.
THE BODY, ARMS, LEGS, FEET: Okay I think. No rib area ball joint swivel? The forearms have that super symmetrical shape thing going on again. It's weird. It looks like the ankles are going to barely move. The thighs might be a bit too undersized.
THE HANDS: The fingers. Too long. Too skinny. They need to be thick, shorter, like a man who pulls on ropes all day. You know, a sailor man?
THE HAT: TOOOO BIG. TOOOO BIIIIIG.
THE LAPELS: Too big and perfectly laid down creating an unpleasant straight line across the chest. It's way too, "LOOK AT ME!"
OLIVE OIL:
THE FACE: Decent. The lines feel too long and heavy like on Popeye. But it's much better overall. Probably because of the simplicity.
BODY, ARMS, LEGS, FEET: All pretty on point. Is the dress fabric? Or are we screwed, ya know?
BABY:
It's fine. It would seem like a great bonus if the other figures were amazing. But I'm caring so little at this point it seems like nothing.
OVERALL:
Popeye need an overhaul. Olive oil better have some hip, knee, and ankle articulation. The baby is fine since it's likely a bonus.
The Bucky O'hare figures are amazing. I'm disappointed to see these have so many issues. Hopefully they see these notes and take them into consideration. I don't think people would be disappointed to see the changes.
So what happened to BFS' tease of Zorro then?

Also, the movie rocked. Fight me.
Regards to JerpJerps post, many of the points and the overall feeling I have to agree. However in terms of Popeye, to get a 3D look for a comic strip that was mostly 2D was going to be a challenge. I accept their take on the renders, but could be toned down a little, but dont think its quite possible. They're definitely trying to make more defining features when compared to previous figure offerings (Mezco mostly I think and not just One:12). The hat removeable feature (assuming) I think would be the difficult to pull off, just doesnt do well with figures.
Credit to Jester with the post, Boss Fight is going for comic strip then its all understood.
In addition, think the pairing of Sweet Pea with Olive is a great idea, and to put Jeep and the bird with Castor is excellent considering he isnt as mainstream known as compared to others. Throwing more ideas to the void, hopefully this line does well, but the concerns are there, for articulation range, balance etc. I would probably want an Olive Oyl with bendy plastic limbs, just remember several times her thin and rubber band like flexibility gags in the cartoons being highlighted. Lastly, probably provided this line does relatively well, just a few more expression headsculpts. And as I said in an earlier post, a more classic sailor uniform for both Popeye and Bluto/Brutus. Obviously also seeing Wimpy in the next wave.
Cartoon style figures are really nice. Let's see how they'll be when it comes out. I'm looking forward to.
The figure has red hair, and Robin Williams in the movie has red hair...because Popeye has red hair:
Also, the movie rocked. Fight me.
I can deal with the hair. It's the rest of the face that's bad. It doesn't look like the comic character either. THE GD CHIN. Terrrrible. The body proportions still look off to me. The flow from thigh to those bell bottoms are just...The gaping mouth looks more appropriate in a small comic frame than blow up to action figure size...so many problems.
The movie? I want to like it but I've tried several times and disappointed. Maybe I'll try one more time.

AS FOR BRUTUS....BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! I love the squat style and everything. Great facial expression. Would be nice to have an ALT. head but I will take it as is. I know people generally like a "resting" type face.
Not sure whats up with those REALLY LONG elbow/forearm hinges??
And again! the FOOT WILL NOT MOVE UP if the pant leg is resting on top of the shoe. All that articulation in the legs is useless without great ankle articulation.
CASTOR OIL...Looks accurate enough. Meh. Bring on Wimpy. That "THIMBLE THEATER" picture of all the comic characters doesn't have
a dud in the lot and they pick Castor? Zzz. BUT OKAY! I"M JUST HAPPY TO GET POPEYE FIGURES!!!!!
PLEASE FIX POPEYE!!!!!!!
Also I hope that this is going to be a smaller 5.5. inch thing. Like vintage TMNT or MOTU or HASBRO WWE size.
So is Popeye going to come with spinach or a chicken?
Boss Fight Studio Popeye Figure Revealed - The Toyark - News

It's amazing no one bothers photoshoping-out the paint chipping on the elbow joints. Keeping it real, I guess. The Popeye figure looks pretty cool regardless.
