New Robo Force Hun-Dred Action Figure Revealed

Posted on October 1, 2021 at 2:20 pm by Coldheart under Robot and Mecha Toy News

Nacelle Robo Force Hun Dred Preview

The the Nacelle Company purchased the rights to Robo Force from Toyfinity Toys earlier this year (see our previous story here), the company promised a completely different take on the cult 80s franchise. In a video posted on YouTube, the Nacelle company has released the first look at Hun-Dred, Nacelle’s first ever action figure. At the end of the video, we also get a sneak peek at their take on Maxx. I’ve embedded the video below.

Not sure how I feel about this. The promo vid was good though. So I guess we are getting 'darker and edgier' Max Steel.

Too much of a departure from vintage Robo Force. They have suction cup feet, a homage to the original logo and an overly stylized head that is vaguely reminiscent of vintage design.

The vintage figures have a charm that is missing here. I am by no means saying the new figures need to employ the same gimmicks as the vintage figures OR need to be slaves to the vintage design. But going "dark and gritty" is low hanging fruit. This looks like McFarlane Toys redesigned Robo Force. I was expecting, and hoping, for more.

I get it, some nice design choices here; but it's also looking kinda generic.

I completely agree- they took away the best aspects of the original line, and made a more generic looking late 1990s-ish robot figure. I do not like the cartoonish, stylized head, either. It seems odd that they'd bother getting the Robo Force property, if they were going to do something so different from the originals that even fans of the classic toy line probably wouldn't know they were connected, without the "Robo Force" logo.

The sad fact is sometimes designers get a hold of a property and just don't "get it". It's true that Transformers pretty much owned the 80's robot crowd. But I collected both and liked them for completely different reasons. That's what Nacelle is missing. Altering a property's primary creative direction into something almost unrecognizable does not help the property. You're totally right that this looks like a generic 90's robot. This is an 80's property. Not a 90's property. And there are aspects of 90's toys that just need to stay dead. The 90's was the absolute worst thing to happen to many 80's properties. They might as well change the name to "EXXxxxtremly Grittier Robo Force". And it's a bummer too.

ill wait for the rest of the wave before deciding. hasbro should look into bringing back something like Inhumanoids(ip has lapsed though) or Robotix.

Inhumanoids could be really cool. There's an indie toy company making Centurions figures. But I don't think they are officially licensed.
