New Playmates TMNT 2 Packs Revealed

Posted on May 25, 2021 at 4:59 pm by Tony_Bacala under Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Toy News

TMNT Playmates 2 Packs

A while back we shared some new TMNT listings that had no pics and hadn’t officially been announced.  They were for various 2 packs from Playmates.  They still haven’t been officially announced, but we now have some pics :).  Thanks to Toyark Forum Member jwyss234 via Australian retailer popcultcha.com we have looks at Leonardo vs. Rocksteady and Michelangelo vs. Bebop.  These are using the Classic molds from years back in slightly tweaked colors.

They are retailing for $62 AUD, which is about $48 USD.  ETA is August 2021.

Also listed but without pics – Donatello vs. Shredder and Raphael vs. Triceraton.  This is interesting because Shredder and Triceratron never had Classic scale molds from Playmates.  Stay tuned!

Australian e-tailer popcultcha.com/au has listed two Playmates TMNT 2 packs. Each 2 pack is a Vs set with the first two sets being Michelangelo vs Bebop and Leonardo vs Rocksteady. The back of the packaging also shows that future sets will be Raphael vs a Triceriton and Donatello vs Shredder. ETA is listed as August.

Thanks for the heads up dude, posted.

Interesting these show Classic molds. And there was never a Classics Shredder or Triceraton from Playmates, correct?

Good old playmates. Always a day late and a dollar short.

This was one of the things that turned me against Playmates. They seemingly had no interest in really putting out good products and kept teasing Shredder. It was of course disappointing when they did show it at toy shows.

But thankfully NECA delivered and even though it's hard to get honesty from NECA, NECA is 10000000x's better than Playmates.

NECA Bebop and Rocksteady hit in November 2019. I looked pretty hard, never found them. Never found them during restocks.

I ordered them direct from NECA in August 2020.

Then ran into them at a Target during last restock, didn't grab because I had pre-orders that were due soon.

    Still not here.

At this point, I may run into Playmates 10 year old reissues first. :/

Either way, I've tapped out of TMNT. Got my core good guys, Splinter, Shred and Krang on display. Done.

Playmates showed prototypes of toon Shredder and Krang in his android body for the Classics line at SDCC 2014. They canceled the line before they were ever released though. The Triceriton was never mentioned in the original line.

I have the original figures and they were kinda of terrible back when I got them.... feels like 9-10 years ago. Never found Bebop and Rocksteady but they sure haven't aged well.

Look how tiny they are compared to the Turtles. Just awful.

I'm hoping this is gonna be another Turtles line. The more the merrier. NECA is hard to get, Super7 could be expensive for others. I am sure we will see a new Shredder figure. A lot can change in 8yrs. I'll collect it. I like the Bebop and Rocksteady they did and with MOTU Origins and GI Joe Classified why not.

A few years ago, I got bebop and rocksteady off of eBay for $30 as a set. Decent enough, but nowhere near the quality of sculpt of either Neca or Super7. Playmates really needs to sit down and talk to people before trying to force the same junk over and over and over again. They CAN make great product. They’ve made fantastic figures in the past. Take that pride of workmanship to the 21st century.

These look great. I had the original set of these Turtles back when they first released, but I regrettably sold them years ago. I was just looking on ebay recently and thinking about re-acquiring them, but I'll gladly buy these updated versions instead. From what I remember they are a lot more durable and playable than NECA's stuff, and a lot more affordable than S7, but still have great sculps, good paint nice accessories, and good articulation. These would make excellent gifts for my 5-year old nephew too.

I'm not sure it's that embarrassing. There's room in the market for more TMNT, especially ones that are meant to be more like actual toys to be played with.

How lazy are Play Mates that they can’t even match the Bebop and Rocksteady art on the box with the classic look of these figures??? Not sure where these horrid designs come from but they look like the Wannabe Hipster version of everyone’s favorite Rhino and Warthog. These designs will haunt my dreams…

I'll be down for a set. They have the master license so shouldn't be to hard to see these. Really interested in what's not shown.

Sidenote I have the Neca stuff and super 7 see no issue with getting these either.

I already had that Bebop and Rock. They are cool kinda. Not into these turts.
Was hoping for some kind of surprise. At least it saves some dough.

Playmates could win over the the crowd even with their current quality if they could just do the comics nobody else is touching (later Mirage, Image, Archie, IDW).

I'd absolutely be thiiiis close to actually killing for a Jennika figure.

I kinda like the look of that Bebop and Rocksteady. Not as cartoonish as the NECA ones, and not massively too large as the Super7 ones.

Shredder (and Krang from that solicit) look way too tiny.

I actually like that Bebop and Rocksteady, though.

i would have gladly bought these sets but like all walmart exclusives sold out in seconds so cant. really want that party wagon but heaven forbid i had more than 30 seconds to order. if you want more than one item on the same day of release you cant get it because by the time you hit add to cart for one item the other is gone. what a stupid business model the toy world has adopted.
