NECA has posted some official product photos for their newly released Defenders of the Earth Series 1 Figures. The 7″ scale figures are based on the classic 80’s Defenders of the Earth cartoon series. Flash Gordon, Ming The Merciless, and The Phantom make up the first assortment. These are currently available in Walmart stores, and will see a wider release this month. Check out the photos after the jump.

Wow. Color me impressed by both the license and Neca's decision to go with more of a classically influenced comic book interpretation and format. Similar to their Supes fig, I find these very appealing and, dare I say, Legends-esque.
These look awesome. My only complaint is I just wish phantom had his two guns and holsters.
I Loved this cartoon series as a kid. I Hope a better dvd set comes out some day. I'm getting this.
I vaguely remember this show and went back to watch some of big and it has aged well.
I worry that wave 1 won't sell well enough for NECA to release the rest of the planned figures to complete this line. The vintage line only had 6 figures so it would only require one more wave to recreate it. We've already seen Mandrake and Lothar at Toy Fair last year, and Garax is the only missing one.
Also I love how the packaging emulates the vintage carded figures, down to NECA's logo resembling the Galoob logo. These figures will go great next to my Rocketeer figure.
*Reads Defenders of the Earth* Nice.
*Reads NECA* Oh, never mind.
I don't see this line being popular or selling well.
Not trying to be a dick, but I'm in my 40's and this shit is before my time. It's a weird license for NECA to release stuff for.
I'll definitely pick up Ming to go with my Sword and Sorcery stuff, not sure about the other two though.
Now if they'd gotten Billy Zane's likeness...
No one can get Billy Zane’s likeness. Except, Billy Zane. Lol.
I’m in for these. Something I wouldn’t ask for, but something I’m glad to have. Plus this is the dry run for when Neca lands DC in 2023.

Agreed. Instead he comes with a laser and...a space monkey? What the fuck is that thing?

I'm 38 and have zero recollection of this show. The figures look good but just have no connection.
The Phantom! finally a modern action figure.
I had watched it briefly when I was younger. I wouldn't say it was a favorite then, but it's aged surprisingly well compared to some other 80s toons (though still has its cringe-worthy moments). Once you get passed this wave though, I'm not sure the secondary characters will have any real draw. I hope I'm wrong, and they sell well enough for NECA to start looking at other 80s toons.
I remember really liking the reimagined Lothar. All the characters were pleasing, but Lothar stood out for me as a youth looking for cultural representation within the pop-entertainment I consumed. Thankfully, they upgraded his look and tweaked his backstory to make him more palatable to modern audiences and sensibilities.
The show was pretty entertaining and the opening theme was one of the more memorable ones in an 80's landscape full of truly great theme songs.
Show wasnt unwatchable from what I remember, somehow I think I remember this among shows like Bionic Six and The Centurions (love to see those redone). Ah, memories.
Thoughts on the line, interesting but agree for the most part with the rest. I think though to my eye only Ming's paint job looks like it carried over from the early reveals, Flash and Phantom less so.

This is what I was referring to. Looks like it will be figures and not an official product.
