Mattel Reveals New Masters of the Universe Cartoon and Masterverse Figures

Posted on February 24, 2021 at 12:39 pm by Joe Moore under Masters Of The Universe Toy News

Mattel Reveals MOTU Masterverse Figures

Today, Mattel held their Virtual Analyst Day Meeting. During the online call, assorted presentations were made by various departments. Among the presentations the very first look at some all-new Masters of the Universe items were revealed! The presentation gives us our very first look at the upcoming Masters of the Universe cartoon, which will be CGI. This is NOT Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelations show (which is tied to the original Filmation series), but an all-new MOTU adventure comingto Netflix. The image shows the new design for both He-Man, and Battle Cat. Even more exciting for collectors is our first look at the Masters of the Universe Masterverse 7″ Scale Action Figures! The image gives us our first look at Hem-Man, Battle Cat, Skeletor, and Evil Lyn. Also revealed is a new MegaConstrux Battle Cat. Here’s what they had to say about MOTU:

“But the blockbuster news of 2021 will be the return of Masters of the Universe. Last year we set the stage with the launch of special action figures and a truly awesome Castle Grayskull targeting fans and collectors. Adding cultural relevance, we collaborated with legendary artist and pop culture icon, Madsaki for a limited-edition collection through Mattel Creations that sold out in minutes.

And this year we go all the way. 2021 will be the first time the franchise has been supported with episodic content in nearly twenty years. And now it’s getting two separate series on Netflix. The first, legendary filmmaker Kevin Smith’s contemporary reimagining, is called Masters of the Universe: Revelation and it already has incredible buzz. Here’s a peek at what’s coming… And we’ll follow this with a new animated series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe – a fun reboot for kids, bringing in a whole new generation of enthusiasts.

Masters of the Universe has been a top priority since we began leveraging our catalog IP – and we’ve done it right. We’ve built tremendous anticipation and buzz among the many loyal fans of the franchise. We have world-class talent co-creating with us.”

You can check out both images after the jump. We will update with more info as it becomes available.

The show design looks pretty awful, but the figures look good. I didn't realize they'd do another line since they seem to be hammering the Origins line pretty hard right now. He-Mans head looks a little small/derpy in the pic but it's hard to tell.

Getting a lot of 200X vibes, but the sword looks more traditional. I skipped Origins due to not being able to get the SDCC exclusive set (more like giving me an excuse not to get them) but much more tempted with these guys.

Whoever they get to play Skeletor, he better be a nasally cackler like Alan Oppenheimer.

He's doing the Kevin Smith MOTU show. No cast announced for the kids CGI show.

I had forgotten there was going to be two shows, and Smith is probably doing the one with the older demographic. That's a relief, not digging the designs for the kids show.

So, Mattel is doing the Hasbro route with TF, not just toys, but media for different demos.

These figures look weak. They have no muscles.

Correct. The Kevin Smith show, Revelations, is a direct continuation of the Filmation cartoon. I remember hearing the 1st episode acts as a series finale of sorts to the cartoon, and then the show deals with the aftermath of that. We've seen nothing from it yet other than the voice cast.

The 2nd show is an all CGI show geared to young kids.

Maybe a little stylized for my taste, they remind me of the 200X figures, but for me it's okay, I hope don't get disappointed with the QC and distribution of this line, like I got with Origins. 🤞

Oh, there was also a Youtube vid of Kevin Smith doing a reaction to the theme song. It sounds all right, still prefer the broader notes of the F Filmation show.

Love them. Love how different they are and I can see fudging some with classics.

He man looks stoned and evil lynn looks like freakin’ katara with white long hair. Why cant they just make normal, realistic, unstylized figures? Everything has to look like bad bruce timm, ed mcguiness or gendy tartakovsky shit.

The figures don't look that good, but this is Mattel we're talking (outside of the occasionally decent WWE figures). If you're going to do it got to up the detail and quality, not digging this particular style. Everyone is bringing back their universes to milk the aging collector.

the proportions are definitely off. lots of muscle bound characters/figures/statues have gotten the peanut head treatment lately. If you shaved he-man's head it would be 2/3rds the size of the shoulder joint.

maybe less. 200x had the same problem.

Hope I can just put a Classics head on that He-man. I would be putting the helmet head on Evil-lyn anyway and Skeletor is alright. Not mindblowing but good. At the least Battlecat will work great as an alternative to the Classics version which has become pretty expensive on the aftermarket. Now I just need to see how well Moss Man is executed.

I never realized there were going to be two completely different MOTU shows coming to Netflix. I'm fine with the stylistic differences, but I'm not sure how I feel about having two shows going at once. Almost seems like way too much MOTU for it's own good.

It's infuriating that they half-assed the toylines for the excellent She-Ra reboot but it looks like they're going all in for this.
