2021 Is The Year of Spawn – New Toys Teased

Posted on February 18, 2021 at 7:02 pm by Tony_Bacala under Spawn Toy News

McFarlane Year of Spawn 008

Todd McFarlane dropped a video today talking about new initiatives for the Spawn franchise.  Most of the new info was related to comics.  He’s basically recruited every single talented artist in the industry and they will all be contributing to 3 new and additional Spawn books per month starting in June.  During the video, while describing what’s coming, toys were shown as reference for the characters he was talking about.  Some were old, some were new.  What looks to be new… Gunslinger Spawn and Redeemer.   Medieval Spawn, Violator, The Clown, Spawn Proper, MK11 Commando Spawn – all shown but they were previously released or announced toys.  This goes along with the recently teased Violator prototype, so we have a lot of non MK11 Spawn coming down the pipeline.  If the way he was talking about these new books is any indication – there should be a big wave coming on both fronts, tied together.

Read on to check out some shots, and hit the full video for all the comic details:

2021 Is The Year of Spawn – New Toys Teased

I ran some checks to make sure - Medieval, Viloator, Clown, shot of hunched Spawn, all older toys. Original Spawn toy looks off camera, and MK11 Commando 12 Inch is in there. New ones are the Gunslinger and Redeemer, I think.

I'm looking forward to Medieval and Gunslinger Spawn but for the love of God, Todd...improve the articulation.

Fascinating news on all the world of spawn.

I want a spawn section, just like my legends and dc universe. It’s time.

I'm excited for this and the new books. Its about time I'm 150% sure he will find a way to get some Batman in there lol

I would have preferred the original Redeemer look but in general I'm pretty intrigued by the possibilities that this line represents. We've already been teased with Violator so we better get a good Clown to go with it.

I want an all new Cyber Spawn and Cyber Violator figures. I still have the old ones and they just such cool designs. I want them in the comic somehow.

I thought the II referred to the redesigned costume.

I've always seen it identified in terms of the host soul. So Jason was the first (even though the Redeemer name wouldn't come in until later) but his impurity corrupted his power, the second was a reformed man named Phil whose "good" soul enabled him to wound Spawn to the point of transformation, and the third was Eddie who was a child Spawn tried to help but things went bad and later Eddie blamed Spawn. The first two have the dark suit and purple cape with the white cross over the body and the gold cross on their face, and the third is seen in this figure with the wings and the blue and gold color scheme.

Color me impressed if that was from memory, less impressed but still appreciative if you just googled it. I know I read all the comics, and Redeemer was always one of my favorite characters, but I sure don't remember all of that!

I always like Spawn's angels as well, I guess Todd lost Angela to Marvel? But he still should be able to make Tiffany and Domina. That's what Todd always exceled at, fantasy female figures.

The Gunslinger and Redeemer look too nice, but Todd, just give us this...

Give us an articulated Al Simmons with all of the weapons you can cram into a box. Oh and an articulated classic Spawn. That would be tops.

Also, now I really want McFarlane Toys to pursue a Dredd 2000 A.D. license. Based on the companies latest offerings I think they would nail it.

It was all from memory except for Eddie's name, so I guess I only get partial credit

Marvel owns Angela but McFarlane had been blocked from doing any more Angela merch years ago. This is why Tiffany wound up being so prominent in the figure line despite Angela being far more important in the comics.

Good to hear there's a planbut sort of inevitable, hallmark 30 year anniversary is coming. Todd has had quite the resurgence with the toy company. I'm sure he would enjoy getting most of the profits for his characters, and well considering all the different Batman's he had to crank out, wny not Spawn? Could also argue the Spider-verse opened up more versions of characters, the comis/movie. It does make me wonder, Todd did say '92 is the anniversary, so going a year early makes me think is the Warner Bros/DC license coming to an end soon (this year)?

Concerning the figure teases, so far so good. These were expected reveals. I'd have liked a better paint job on the Redeemer/Anti-Spawn- more metallic, less bright toon.

Pretty sure this is year 2 of 3 for DC and McFarlane.

One thing is for sure, the man definitely knows his product. And he definitely knows how to get you hyped for it. I am excited to see what comes of this!

Yes, the license was announced during Toy Fair 2019, 2 years ago. Think some of the first DC figures came around late 2019. Just thinking on logistics, McFarlane cranked alot of DC and WB related figures. If he's going to move to flooding Spawn stuff, there's a planned switch off it seems and it made me wonder that WB/DC isn't going to renew (believe it was a 3 year agreement). Which makes me disappointed, wanted to see some more and certain groups/lines completed, like the Teen Titans (he did make that Cyborg). It's a shame cause I did think his products were arguably better (or slightly) than the older figures. Was always leery cause there was the news that WB/DC shut down their toy division but later still put out some DC Direct figures. It's kind of like with recent events like Fortnite going to Hasbro and other news.
