Coming soon is a new Batarang replica from NECA Toys. The Batarang is based on the prop used in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989). This prop replica made its debut last year, when NECA revealed a number of DC Comics, Game, and Movie prop replicas during Toy Fair 2020. Additional items revealed included a grapnel gun, and a line launcher from the film. The Batarang is a life size replica, and measures about 7.25″ wide, and about 5.25″ tall. It’s constructed of plastic, and folds in three places, using magnets to snap into place. The Batarang will be available at Walmart first between this month and March, and then eventually will come to all retailers. Price hasn’t been released at this time, but I’ve put out a request for info on that.
UPDATE:
I’ve been told the price at Walmart will be $13.96.
Our friends at NECA have sent over the Batarang to check out. After the jump, you can see my gallery, and read my quick impressions of the new replica.
Batman (1989) – Life Size Batarang Replica by NECA
Pros
- Great looking sculpt
- Hinges are small and don’t hinder the look
- Nice snap from the magnets when folding it
Cons
- The display stand is a bit flimsy
Overall
The Batarang come in a simple windowless box. It sits in a plastic tray, and can easily be placed back in for storage. A display stand is included. No assembly is required, and the Batarang is ready for display as soon as it’s opened.
NECA did a nice job in recreating the look of the films Batarang. The construction is pretty solid feeling, and is fairly light weight. The edges, especially near the tips of the bat wings, is very thin and sharp. The small amount of sculpted details are sharp and clean. The wing tips have a silver metallic paint, while the rest of the Batarang is mainly an unpainted matte black. The small hinges are metal, and they blend in nicely. The Batarang folds in three spots, and there are magnets on the inside that help it snap into place when folding. A display stand is included, with the Batman logo molded into it. The tray is a very thin plastic, about the same quality as the plastic trays many of the figures are packed in. I would have preferred something more solid, but it gets the job done, and looks nice when on display.
This is a really nice looking collectible overall. It will fit in perfectly with any Michael Keaton Batman displays, as it doesn’t take up much space. Check out some select photos below, and the rest of the gallery after that.

That is pretty neat. You sucked me in with needing it for my Keaton collection.
Not a fan of the stand it's on. Wish it had the yellow/black Bat logo on it somewhere like on the Keaton suit.
That's a really awful stand. Makes the whole thing look like some Burtonesque building. The stand should be something that allows the Batarang itself to stand out like the QMX BvS one.
Am thinking about it, but yeah agree on the stand. I wish BATMAN was painted somehow. Kind of wish the thing was actually painted too instead of being just plastic.
Yeah, there's no contrast between the stand and the Batarang.
I don't get it.
It looks cool by itself.
I’m planning on it hanging on my wall. So the stand can jog on. But yes, total phone in job by neca on that. It looks like packaging.
I've been told that this will sell for $13.96 when it hits Walmart. So, that's a pretty good price in my eyes. I expected closer to $25.
I’m still shocked at the price. I’m a lot less disappointed in the stand now.
Didn’t neca show some more Batman props.....animated maybe?
Bless you. I keep searching the site for those pics.

The stand reminds me of disposable packaging.

$14 isn’t bad. Saw a powdered, blued steel version at a gun show selling for $150+. Much better price for decorating a mancave.
