MADSAKI X Masters Of The Universe Art Collectible by Mattel Creations

Posted on January 28, 2021 at 11:17 am by Joe Moore under Masters Of The Universe Toy News

MADSAKI x MOTU 002

Mattel Creations, a platform where Mattel teams up with artists and designers for limited edition productions, is collaborating with renowned spray paint artist MADSAKI. Together they are releasing a statue featuring a neon colored, spray painted, He-Man and Battle Cat Statue. The statue stands at 16″ tall. they will also be offering apparel and a lunch box featuring MADSAKI’s MOTU art. The MADSAKI X Masters Of The Universe Collection will be available Friday, January 29th at Noon EST via Mattel Creations. Check out some info below, and images after the jump.

MADSAKI x MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE
Contemporary Japanese artist, MADSAKI celebrates his childhood hero (and ours) with this incredible MOTU collection. This limited-edition drop reimagines the iconic elements of Eternia through the eyes of an art world icon, giving MOTU an unexpected, pop-culture twist.

THE MASTERS REMASTERED
When an artist truly loves his subject, it’s obvious. MADSAKI has admired He-man since he was a kid in the 80s. His passion for the most powerful man in the universe can be seen in every vivid color, drippy eye and ironic smile. MADSAKI’s interpretation of MOTU is beyond unique and every piece is a must-have for all He-man fans.

MASTERPIECE OF THE UNIVERSE
Our team of designers couldn’t wait to see the creative energy MADSAKI would bring to He-Man and Battle Cat. His signature neon colors and spray painted details, combined with a massive presence (more than 16 inches) bring an eccentric and oh-so-collectible edge to this iconic pair.

This is truly hideous. It looks like something your kid made in kindergarten.

Love it! If only Mattel would do similar decos on their mainline figures, comic book inspired etc.

This thing dropped on Friday and it could have been yours for $450.00. It sold out, so if you consider yourself a MOTU Origins completist then and you didn't get one of these things, then you're no longer a completist and probably never will be since this thing will go for double that and up on eBay (probably).

I know it perfectly captures the artist's style (the blacked out eyes and the loud neon colors), but Mattel please don't do more crap like this. The clear Skeletor you sold on that website was fine (and I noticed it was shipped 2 days ago), but it was $50 and not $450. The Super7 Thundertank is $450 and the Star Wars Razorcrest and Marvel Legends Sentinel are less than $400, but those are all huge and intricate releases. All this is is a $20 Battlecat and He-Man with an awful paint deco and now I'm really thinking about not collecting MOTU Origins because I'm a completist and I'm not going to pay that much money for something like this.

I guess I should ask is this an actual Mattel figure and Battle Cat with special deco or is it considered something else? I'm guessing it's a figure given the Mattel connection. This is unacceptable and I'm gonna have to sleep on it. Not having this even given how awful it looks is going to bother me, and any enjoyment I get out of having these figures again (I had them all the first time around in the 80s) disappears like 10 or 12 farts in the wind when I see this....this limited edition fart of a release that disappeared in the wind at $450 a pop. I'm actually surprised that this sold out at that price, as well as all the other super expensive toys that sell out. Last time I checked, we were in the middle of a pandemic and most people can't work and tens of millions of people lost their job. I guess all of us toy collectors have decent paying, essential worker jobs. I know I do, but I bought the Sentinel, Razorcrest, and I'll probably get the Thundertank, so I can't drop $450 on this POS even if it weren't sold out unless there was a payment plan.

This sucks Mattel and isn't fun anymore. I've been collecting as an adult for 32 years and have had action figures in my life since 1979/1980, and I've never said it wasn't fun. Way to go Mattel and hell, thanks to you too Hasbro. Jackasses.

This is NOT part of the MOTU Origins line. For one, it's a replica of the vintage Battlecat and Heman, there's no elbow or knee articulation on heman, and none on Battlecat. Plus they are oversized and much larger than the normal ones.

I have NO interest in this item even if it was $20... but that's be/c I just find the art style completely unappealing.. to me at least. I feel pretty much the same about the art prints they released. I think they are just crazy overpriced items for exclusivity sake, and were bought up so fast buy the bots I hope they just get stuck with them.

But for completists sake, this item would never be considered part of any Origins complete checklist.. so at least in that sense hopefully you feel better about it.
