Back To The Future – Ultimate Marty McFly Audition Version by NECA

BTTF Audition Marty Figure 001

NECA has released photos for their upcoming Back To The Future – Ultimate Marty McFly Audition Version 7″ Scale Figure. This figure is based on the photograph that Marty has in his pocket, and checks to see who is fading away as he messes with the timeline. The figure will include two swap out portraits, interchangeable hands, including a fading hand, a guitar, a newspaper, and a cassette player with headphones.

While not mentioned in their post, the figure will be available between February and March, and will initially be exclusive to Walmart. After the exclusivity period, it will be available at other collectible stores. Check out the new photos after the jump.

Earth angel starting playing in my head. Well done Neca. Well done.

The accessories confuse me. This outfit was at the start of the movie when he auditioned, when his hand started to disappear he was in a suit playing Earth Angel.

It's a mixed reference, as he does start to fade in the photo as well. So if they do an "Earth Angel" version of Marty later, then you can pop this hand on there as well.

I don't mind the idea of multiple Marty's but they need to focus on Part III as well as the other characters. I really want Alternate 1985 Biff and everyone from Part III: Western Marty, Western Doc and especially Mad Dog Tannen!

It is weird that NECA would have the hand disappearing as an accessory for this outfit, but it is interesting to think that Martys throughout the timeline may have freaked out that they were disappearing without knowing why. A "Johnny B Good" version with a rocking out face would be amazing!

Yeah, despite Joe's explanation this release is just weird. Like NECA often does with their licenses, they're probably going to milk one character (Marty) over and over. But at least in this case we already have Doc and Biff so the BttF line won't end up like that bullshit with Crash Bandicoot.

"Oh, you don't want to buy 17 different-yet-nearly-identical versions of Crash? Then I guess we won't be making any of the other announced characters, then!"

Yeah I'm not going to lie, this is getting a little stale only 6 releases in. I'll probably buy for the accessories, but that's it.

This better be the last Marty in his full BTTF1 outfit. This variant makes sense, as we saw him without the "life preserver" in more than one scene, but there's no other logical variant left for this full sculpt now. If they were smart, they would have put this in a 2-pack with Jennifer (with both Claudia Wells and Elizabeth Shue headsculpts) to encourage sales, because based on comments I've seen on Facebook I think a few collectors will be passing on this variant.

I could see them re-using his pelvis/legs for BTTF2 versions of Alt 1985 Marty in jeans/red t-shirt or one with the shirt/jeans and black leather jacket/hat when he returned to 1955 though if they really want to go to the extreme in using some of the existing tooling.

Meanwhile I'm still hoping we AT LEAST get BTTF1 Doc in radiation suit, BTTF2 2015 Doc, and Marty, Doc, and Buford from BTTF3 before NECA calls it quits with this line. Sadly none of those really have re-use value for variants like the BTTF1 Marty, which seems to be guiding NECA's decisions with this line so far, except for 2015 Doc where they could do one with the yellow overcoat/mirror glasses and one without the overcoat for how he's dressed during most of the movie. I don't expect them to ever go deep enough to do 2015 Old Biff, Griff, Alt 85 Biff, Clara, or any version of Lorraine though. And we already know George is off the table.

If there is ever any possible variant that NECA can use to get as many miles as possible off of a sculpt, they will bleed it dry as a rock.

It's like their Predator figures. It's my all-time favorite NECA line, but aside from the occasional original sculpt almost every release they push out is just a variant on the Jungle Hunter or City Hunter.

I mean, they just announced an Ultimate of the Assassin Predator from that shitty The Predator movie that nobody was asking for. Meanwhile the Ultimate Wolf Predator figure was announced a few years ago - a unique figure that fans have been clamoring for non-stop - and nobody has seen anything happen with that one in ages.

But fuck it, at least I finally got my Ultimate Armored Lost Predator who can actually bend his elbows now. I'm at the very least thankful for that release, which is my all-time favorite Predator design.

But yeah, I understand that NECA is a small company, but they have to stop this practice of killing their own lines by milking characters to death. But at least it appears that they finally gave up on all the Pennywise variants after he became a running joke among fans.

With them having Tom Wilson's likeness rights I definitely hope/expect Griff at least since they have 2015 Marty already. I would be in for Old Biff and Trump Biff too. Doc is the one unfortunately with fewer outfits leading to fewer figures.

    With Doc you have:
    1. BTTF1 1985 Radiation Suit (which they may be able to partially re-use Radiation Marty body parts)
    2. BTTF1 1955 Doc without labcoat - he was without it in most of the film (reusing parts of the 1955 Doc we're already getting)
    3. BTTF2 2015 Doc in yellow coat/mirror glasses (another must-do to go with 2015 Marty)
    4. BTTF2 2015 Doc without the coat/glasses - how he appeared in most of 2015 (so that's 2 figures re-using the same body parts)
    5. BTTF2 1955 Revisit Doc (same 2015 shirt/pants but with a black overcoat/hat)
    6. BTTF3 1885 Old West Doc (a must do if they tackle the 3rd film)
    7. BTTF3 1985 Future Train Doc (not likely, but would be a cool Jules Verne nod)

So 1 and 2 could be done using existing tooling. If they did 3, they could also do 4 and 5 with some of 3's tooling.

Jeeze, get out of my head Dolemite XD I swear it's like you're reading my mind and speaking my thoughts XD

Yeah this is a neat variation but what I really want is a 1955 Part 2 Marty in red shirt and jeans with alternate leather jacket arms and pop on jacket with alternate hat and sunglasses head and a walkie talkie. I want an 1885 Marty in his full on Clint Eastwood outfit and I want a Radiation Suit Doc. That basically fills out my BTTF wish list.
