NECA Alien 40th Wave 3 Figures 001

The long delayed third assortment of Alien 40th Anniversary Figures from NECA look to finally be getting a release later this month. A pre-order listing is now available on Walmart.com, with the set listed for release on January 14th. This wave features a Big Chap Alien, an all-new Ash, and a re-release of Gilbert Kane with a new head sculpt.

Alien – 40th Anniversary – 7” Scale Action Figure (Set of 3 Character) – NECA
Released to theaters in 1979, Alien became one of the most successful films of the year and has since grown to be a timeless sci-fi classic. To celebrate the film’s 40th Wave 3 will include Ash with the licensed likeness of Ian Holm, and for the first time, Kane in compression suit with the licensed likeness of John Hurt! Kane will come with 2 interchangeable heads, while Ash will include a severed head and a variety of accessories. Also included in this wave is a classic Big Chap. Each figure will come packaged in a 40th Anniversary Kenner inspired window box to commemorate the occasion.

The set is priced at $89.99. Click the link above to order. You can see some official photos after the jump.

Aw, you have to buy them all together? That kinda sucks, I didn't want that Kane, but now I have to get him in order to get that neat Ash, huh.

Really didn't want another big chap but it was worth it to get Kane and Ash without the fight at retail. I had been using a modified Dallas head as Kane for ages so it's nice to finally get a proper Mr.Hurt in there-

...and to head off the complaints about how short Ash is- Ian Holm was 5'5. Not to bad a scale next to 6'3 Yaphet Koto. The Pressure suits are all a bit large- but overall I think they did a decent job scaling everyone

Shame Neva never hit Ripley's face. I kept holding out for a 1/4 scale Ripley. The first release with the long hair is better than the new release with the long hair for her.

Still hoping NECA does 1/4 scale her, but NECA seems to be only producing Turtles in that scale and nothing else.

You are correct, sir. Ian Holm was the shortest member of the cast by far, as evidenced by this cast pic:

BTW, is Ash's face painted, as opposed to being cast in flesh-tone plastic? If so that's a bummer, because it contrasts the Parker, Brett, and Ripley figures.

I haven't been a fan of NECA's pressure suits at all due to the tons of inaccuracies. They're too lanky/not bulky enough, and the armor pieces are WAAAY too small. I mean, look how tiny the shoulder pads are on NECA's figure (they're shaped wrong, too) compared to the movie pic below...in the movie, the shoulder pads are enormous and go almost all the way down to the elbow. The chest plate is too small, too. The suit underneath also doesn't look right...it needs to be bulkier, as it looks too form-fitting on NECA's figure, the gloves are too small, the helmet sits way too high...I could go on and on. Oh, and let's not forget that fact that the elbows bend, what? 10 degrees at best? Not a great figure, unfortunately.

Wow, for once Walmart screws up in my favor. I got Kane and TWO Ash figures today in the mail instead of Kane/Ash/Big Chap. I didn't need another Big Chap. I think I'll try to resell or trade that extra Ash.

Mine came today. The look stunning, but as always with Neca, there are surprises. The leg snapped right off on Ash at the right knee. Huge air bubble in the peg. Man thought this crap was over with neca.

Is there any recourse when this happens or are you out of luck?

NECA's customer service on Twitter @NECA_CS (sadly none of the other avenues seem to yield results) has helped me out a few times with replacing specific parts or entire figures.

Not to mention being almost twice as large as it should be, but this is the same company that has consistently given all of their Colonial Marine figures brown jungle boots (except for Kenner tribute Drake, perversely enough), added rivets to the up-armor plate on the front of the M10 helmet, attached the hand-welders with sculpted web straps instead of paracord, omitted the "non-toxic" graffiti from Hick's groin protector, gave Hicks an extra belt pouch, sculpted his helmet straps hanging loose, painted Hudson's helmet cover in the wrong camouflage pattern, made his knife/sheathe green instead of black, mixed up the accessories for the initial single-packs (in the "Game Over!" scene, it's Hicks who still has his back-mounted lamp-pack, not Hudson), sculpted Frost's sleeves fully rolled down instead of partially rolled back on his forearms, omitted the shoulder sling for the M240 flamethrower, etc, etc, etc...
