Medicom has revealed a new Superman figure based on one of the most iconic DC Comics story lines; The Death and Return of Superman. After Superman’s death at the hands of Doomsday, four imposters take up the mantle of Superman. Those include Steel, Superboy, Cyborg superman, and the Eradicator. When Cyborg superman reveals his true intentions, the other supermen must band together to fight. When all seems lost, the real Superman returns, though very weakened.
The new MAFEX Superman features his black and silver Kryptonian suit, two portraits (complete with super-mullet), swap out flight boots with effects, multiple interchangeable hands, and an articulated figure stand. Superman stands at 6.3″ tall. The figure is scheduled for release in October 2021, and will be priced at 8,800 Yen (about $85 USD). Check out the new photos after the jump.

DC Comics - MAFEX Black Suit Superman from Return of Superman

I'll comment on the piece for what it is first: this looks pretty good, and if you're a fan of the story, there you go.
That said, I would really appreciate a kinder Superman from them. If McFarlane doesn't start making Superman All Star figures, I hope Mexico will.
*Medicom geez, sorry for the typo
McFarlane should make Kingdom Come Superman, beefy Superman from Dark Knight Returns, and this black suit Superman. I'll buy it in a heartbeat. $19.99 price point is hard to beat. I hope he doesn't add the build-a-figure $5 tax on it though.
The 30th Anniversary Batman The Dark Knight Returns Superman is a beauty to behold. It's lacking some modern articulation but a damn nice figure. He is packed with thick muscles like the comic art. McFarlane's Action Comics #1000 is too skinny for me.
$85 seems too high.
I hope they explore the arc , giving us Doomsday, Steel, Superboy, Cyborg Superman, Eradicator
Oh man, if this means Mafex is working on Reign of the Supermen figures (specifically Superboy and Steel), they will have my money--again!
I don't mess with Mafex anymore but that looks really good. I like how they seem to have captured a bit of the Jon Bogdanove artwork in the face sculpt...looks that way to me anyway. And if they were to do a cyborg Superman and Steel might have to consider buying Mafex figure again.
Has the HUSH Superman come out yet? Are these scale compatible with Marvel legends? Don't recall Black suit Supes needing boot jets to fly.
This is one of my favorite versions of Spuerman, so I'll definitely get him. Mafex is killing it with these lately.
I dig what they're trying to do here. It gives an outlet for them to reuse molds. Just have to do some tweaks with and swap certain limbs and headsculpts with Eradicator and Cyborg Superman. Think for those interested one would hope they would have accessory pieces that go with other figures like they did with the Nolan Batman line. Throwing another "wild" idea, would be fun to see a decent bonus Shaq headsculpt for Steel (they have done some basketball player figures, right?)!
