Starting off a series of mega galleries for recent McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse figures today here at Toyark. 2020 kicked off the line with a bang, then it slowed a bit, but late 2020 has been very busy for DC Multiverse. And the figures have been getting better and better each round! Over the next couple days, we’ll be sharing in depth galleries for 22 different Multiverse figures that recently released or will be soon.
To kick things off, we are doing a set all around the video game figures. Multiverse has jumped in on the Arkham era, with figures from Asylum, Knight and Origins. There are now 8, including variants and chases. Inside we have shots for Arkham Knight Batman, Arkham Origins Deathstroke, Chases for each of those, Arkham Asylum Batman and Joker in a 2 pack with green Titan(?) compound all over them, and a Bronze Chase for Asylum Batman to match the previously released Joker one.
All in all they are very solid pieces, offering updates to the DC Collectibles releases from years ago. Knight Batman and Origins Deathstroke being the stars here so far. Read on for some additional thoughts and over 90 HD images of them courtesy of McFarlane Toys!
Stay tuned to Toyark over the next week or so for Comic and Metals themed galleries, we’ll have hundreds of more shots for you soon!
Overall Thoughts
When we saw Asylum Joker and Batman at Toy Fair 2020 (man that seems like forever ago now) I was like “cool, but…” did we really need those right now. However, with the DC Collectibles figures getting up there in age, and there being a new game in that universe dropping soon, it makes sense.
Arkham Knight is one of my favorite looks for Batman, and I enjoyed the game (aside from those damn Riddler challenges). The DC Collectibles one (see our gallery here) was ok, but I felt it was a bit skinny/tall. This one ups the sculpting, and proportion things a bit better. This also improves upon the Asylum version with double jointed everything and nice shoulder range. The legs are a tad limited due to engineering but it’s not a deal breaker.
Origins Deathstroke is also another really solid offering. Sculpt is phenomenal head to toe, and the paint applied is tops. Slight sheens, metallic hits, sharply applied to mold points. Great execution. The DC Collectibles one (see our gallery here) again was solid at the time, but this one upgrades on all fronts. I think the blue is a tad dark here, but other than that it’s aces.
The rest of today’s figures are repaints. The 2 pack is nice, and for those really into this version of the characters it offers something different. I have no clue, but I’d guess that the green was originally blood and that was rejected at some point in the approval process, so it was switched to green. So let’s pretend they had a fist fight in a Titan Compound storage facility and things got dirty. The new chases are golden rather than bronze. Each now have a stark black element painted on which is sharp. The Asylum Batman chase is Bronze to match the previous Joker one. Personally these are not something I would feel the need to chase, but I’m not against it if it helps pay the bills. I also would be stressed if the chases were actual core offerings needed for a complete collection. So for those that dig the non traditional offerings, or those that gotta have them all – enjoy the hunt.
Bottom line – Knight Batman and Origins Deathstroke are great, and the Video Game thread of Multiverse is shaping up nicely. All of these are out now or will be soon at most online retailers, hit our sponsors and your favorite spots. Check some key shots here, and 90+ below in gallery format!
