MAFEX Batman Knightfall Figure 011

A couple of magazine scans have popped up showing off a new MAFEX Batman coming soon from Medicom. The scans, via Toyzfrontline, show off the Azrael Batman from the Batman: Knightfall story arc by DC Comics. In the story, Bane breaks Batman’s back, and Azrael steps in to become the new Batman, complete with a new suit. The figure will have both masked and unmasked portraits, interchangeable hands, a grappling hook, and a wired fabric cape. It will be released in September 2021, and will be priced at 8,800 Yen (about $84 USD). See the scans after the jump.

UPDATE:
Official photos and details have been released by Medicom. We’ve added the new photos to this post. Pre-orders at the links below.

This might be one of my most anticipated Batman figures of all time.

The last figure I owned of him was this guy...

To be fair that looks like a fun toy

Huh - gotta say I don't like this as much as I thought I would.

The claws look off, especially in the closed fists as they should cover the entire fingers up to and over the knuckles and not bend away like that.

I also don’t know if this is a Knightquest thing where the mask looks fabric but I prefer the metal helmet look from Knightfall. Could’ve done without the sculpted wrinkles around the eyes and nose.

To be fair though - it’s incredibly hard to get this one right as the mask especially was almost always drawn most prominently with dark shadows covering it. To get that right you would have to paint parts of it black which I'm not a fan of either. So... I guess I wait for more pictures to see if I like it better.

Definitely a Knightquest thing. While it was meant to be a smooth helmet, one of the most popular comic covers depicting it had prominent wrinkled brows, and most companies simply followed suit.

As for the claws, in fairness they were very inconsistent throughout the comic. Sometimes it'd have all the fingers in complete silver , other times it's actually similar to how they did this figure. That said, the sharp edges of the claws rarely sat on the knuckles, so the figue isn't wrong for depicting it this way.

I'm personally loving it. I feel like this is the classic blue AzBats I've been waiting for all this time and the 90s styled shiny finish on the metal parts really help in selling the whole look. If they were to do his Knightsend suit, I'd personally prefer it in red over the initial blue.

I'd love a Nightwing from this era as well

I'd like one from Hush too, though. Basically I just want a Mafex Nightwing.

I see. Shame, I like the helmet better.

Also true - guess I just compare this too much to the Knightfall comic but that's the look I'm most familiar with.

I never got to read this storyline, so don't have any nostalgia for the character but looks like a cool figure.

I agree about the mask being a difficult one to pull off right. Unless the rest of the costume has a slight wash on it, then it seems the detail is a bit too forced. The Prime 1 statues went with the washed look and those sculpts seems to be pretty good, overall... but then we are talking an order of magnitude higher in price.

Better version of any previous Knightfall Azrael. Perfect? I'd have liked a slightly better paint application (slightly darker shade of blue for armor and cape and better gold metallic on armor and pauldrons), few more helmets (smoother version and the version 2.0), and have the claw gauntlets removeable/swappable. Extra optional if there is some reflective/light feature for the chest light/crest. But this is very nice for MAFEX Batman collectors. Wonder if McFarlane is going to give us his version of this.

That's some seriously bad art anatomy going on there.

Yeah, if I was a fan of this design, I'd just wait it out in the hopes that McFarlane would get to it eventually.

I'm liking this trend of re-using the batman hush body mold, with some tweaking, they could and hopefully do the male versions as justice league eventually, just need to make a comic wonder woman, then hawkgirl. I'll be happy then. I've pre-ordered everything from HUSH and can't wait till they arrive. Hoping mafex keep the comic based figures up and running.
