Overall
Like the Frankenstein Spinature, the upcoming Bride of Frankenstein will come packed in a small window box. The side will feature excellent artwork of the Bride, while the back shows off the mini bust, and the back shows off some product photos and a bit of info. Please note, this was a very early sample, so the box is non-functioning, and is here to show the design. We’ve included the official product photos from Waxwork Records to show how it will look in packaging.
The Bride of Frankenstein is a great example of a sequel that not only expands on the story of the original, but surpasses it in many ways. Actress Elsa Lanchester pulls double duty in the movie, as she opens the film as author Mary Shelley, and closes the film as a horrified companion for Dr. Frankenstein’s creation. Boris Karloff truly comes into his own, as the creature is given more depth, and his loneliness and isolation drive him to seek a true equal. When the Bride retreats in horror, the creature becomes wholly broken, choosing to destroy himself and his would-be bride to free them both from their torment.
Like the film, the second Spinature mini bust improves on what came before it. Like Frankenstein, the Bride features an excellent sculpt. The details are much softer here, leaning into the beauty that the Bride. The likeness is quite good here, and the more texture heavy details like the hair and bandages, contrast nicely to the soft features of the skin. Paint work is crisp and clean. The beauty “make up” on the eyes and lips have nice sharp lines. There’s no noticeable paint bleed in any of those areas. Areas like the bandages have a paint wash over them to add some extra depth to the sculpted details. The proportions seem to be better scaled here. Construction is perfectly solid, but not too heavy. The weight is important (though I don’t have the exact weight), as the Spinatures are capable of sitting on a record player, to spin along with the music playing. I don’t have a record player at the moment, but I will soon and will be able to test the functionality better with the next Spinature release.
At just over 4″ tall, this is an easy piece to fit into a horror collection. The price is spot on for a mini bust of this size. I’ve been pretty impressed with the first two releases and am really looking forward to some of my favorite Universal Monsters (Wolf Man, Creature From The Black Lagoon). Check out a selection of images below, and a full gallery after that.
