Gatchaman – Ken Washio, The Eagle Revealed by Storm Collectibles

Posted on October 8, 2020 at 3:38 pm by Joe Moore under Anime Toy News

Storm Ken Washio The Eagle Preview 001

Back in April, Storm Collectibles announced that they will be producing figures based Gatchaman (aka Science Ninja Team Gatchaman). Today they have revealed the first figure, Ken Washio, The Eagle. The images are of the first prototype, which is still pending licensor approval. We’ll update with further details when they are revealed. See the new photos after the jump.

Ugh. Another Storm line I'll need. Damn this looks good.

If the line goes beyond Ken I'll totally be interested. But if they do the entire team along with Berg Katse and even some Glactor soldiers my wallet is absolutely fucked. I'll HAVE to get them all.

Of course, this is Storm we're talking about, here. They'll probably release two characters and then quietly drop the line altogether.

Looks cool, but I'll only take notice if they do the entire team first.

Absolutely down for this. YES- the team will arrive in full eventually but probably a good many years down the road based on Storm's track-record. But also like Scorpion and Sub-Zero before, sleep on this at your own risk as his price will be astronomical once more of the team start arriving.

You just know there are going to be alternate capes.

Man I'm so down for this

Yup. Otherwise, any articulation above the hips (aside from the neck) will be useless.

Super 7's already doing the optional soft-goods capes/robes with a number of figures in multiple lines. I would imagine Storm is paying attention.

Very much looking forward to these figures. Hopefully we get the entire team sooner than later.

Gonna have to pass too. Seems like the 2 capes I'd want to pose him in would take up an awful lot of room on the shelf.

So is this actually 1/12 or is it oversized like all the rest of their lines?

It looks good but the face doesn't look anything like the one from the 70s anime. The medicom ones face is anime accurate. I'm on the fence.

Eew. I have to agree, that face is 100% off. It looks nothing whatsoever like Ken did in the 70's anime. HARD PASS.

But then again, this is Storm Collectibles we're talking about here. Based on their past actions, there's ZERO chance they would do the entire Science Ninja Team, so it's not like I would bother investing myself in this line anyway. They'll do Ken and MAYBE Jun or Joe (at best) and then abandon the line like every other license they've incompetently bungled.

I still won't believe they'll release the Darkstalkers Morrigan figure they announced (and showed prototypes of) until the actual figure itself hits retail. That's how little faith I have in this half-assed company.

Yeah thanks man you just helped me to decide. Pass. Anyway Jason (joe) is my favourite character. I'll stick with my 12inch medicom versions.

I think this looks great. Just a good looking figure, I'm not huge into Gatchaman though so I can't speak much about how accurate it is.

But I did start watching Gatchaman a bit because of this figure announcment and because I am generally curious about shows from the time when Ichinomori started the "Henshin" trend of Japanese masked superheroes, and I have to say, its entertaining, I quite like it. Crazy and fun ideas with a good portion of action, the very essence of what makes these kinds of shows interesting to me.

Back to the figure, I think the headsculpt is good. But I do wish the clear part of the helmet was a bit darker, but I know the exact right look can be difficult to achieve in this scale. And I do prefer it being too light instead of too dark.

I think it’s based on the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: computer game rather than the anime which is a shame. Still an OK figure but, for diehards like me, it's a pass, especially as its so expensive for the size.

I was thinking that too but, I'm pretty sure Shinkiro stayed consistant with that 70s anime face in his artwork. Maybe based on the in-game model? Since I've actually never played the game.

I don't know. To be fair, I think Storm has done a nice job staying consistent with their Golden Axe line, which I have found to be excellent. Close to complete as well.

The Anime Mark has bigger eyes and no fringe or visible hair in his costume. This one looks like the game version which fits the other storm fighting game characters and which actually looks more Asian which is character accurate.
