A new series of Universal Monsters collectibles have been announced by Waxwork Records. If you’re a horror fan, you may know Waxwork for their numerous horror and pop culture themed soundtrack releases. Recent vinyl soundtrack releases have included The Fog, Taxi Drive, The Exorcist, Friday the 13th Part 6, Escape From New York, and many more. Today, we’re happy to share the news that they are adding toys and collectibles to their product list! They are kicking off their collectibles line with a series of mini busts known as Spinatures. The Spinatures busts can be placed on top of your record player, or simply displayed as a bust. The first character offered will be the creature from the 1931 classic film Frankenstein!
Waxwork Records is beyond thrilled to announce their entrance into the toys and collectibles market with SPINATURES. Spinatures are highly detailed turntable-spinner mini-busts featuring iconic characters from pop culture, horror movies, and beyond. SPINATURES are fitted with a hole in their base to easily attach to the spindle of your turntable and then spin along with your favorite records. No turntable? No problem! Waxwork took into account that not all collectors are vinyl enthusiasts. Collectors of quality toys and figures may also enjoy SPINATURES by proudly displaying their favorite characters virtually anywhere. Any home or office setting is perfect for SPINATURES. Computer desks, bookshelves, toy and collectible display cases, counter tops, even car dashboards. Waxwork worked closely with various studios, rights holders, and family estates to ensure that the likeness of each character was officially approved.
Waxwork is proud to present FRANKENSTEIN, from their Universal Horror Line, as their very first Spinature. This official Universal Monster product was designed and produced by Waxwork and features the iconic monster from the landmark 1931 horror film with the likeness of legendary actor Boris Karloff. Many more official Universal Monster Spinatures are to come Fall 2020 and throughout the 2020 Holiday season including The Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, The Phantom of the Opera, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, The Wolfman, and The Invisible Man!
The Frankenstein Spinature can be purchased directly from WaxworkRecords.com. It is priced at just $24, and is available now! They were kind enough to provide us with an advanced sample. After the jump, you can check out a full photo gallery and my review of the Frankenstein’s Monster Spinature.
Spinatures Frankenstein by Waxwork Records
- Outstanding details on the sculpt
- Great likeness to Boris Karloff
- Nice paint work
- Solid construction
- Fun concept that works with or without a turntable
- Perfectly priced
- Head looks slightly big compared to the body
The new Frankenstein Spinature comes packaged in a small window box. The collector friendly packaging allows you to place the figure back inside for storage or display. The mini bust sits in a plastic tray, with a few plastic ties holding it in place. No assembly is required.
Spinatures are, first and foremost, a collectible aimed at horror music fans. The mini busts is mainly meant to sit on top of a record while it plays as a collectible spinner. If, like me, you currently do not own a record player, then this will act as a small scale mini bust. On it’s own, it displays perfectly without a record player and looks great on a shelf, especially if you have other Frankenstein collectibles. The Frankenstein’s Monster stands at 3.75″ tall. It’s a pretty solid construction, without being too heavy. So imagine it won’t cause any unnecessary stress to records while playing. There are few, if any, noticeable seams. The sculpt work is excellent, with intricate texture work on the skin and jacket. The likeness is pretty spot on to Boris Karloff as the creature. The head feels just a hair big compared to the hands, but it’s nothing that would stop me from recommending this to horror fans. The paint work is clean and crisp. There are light washes over each area that help to add depth to the sculpted details. The colors are very muted to pay homage to the black and white origins of the character.
In hand, I think the Frankenstein Spinature looks fantastic. At $24, it’s a nice affordable collectible. There are plenty more on the horizon, and I’m lookign forward to the Wolfman and Creature From The Black Lagoon when they get to them. Check out a selection of images below, and the full gallery after that.
