And now – let’s return to the THUNDERCATS! /end_Lion-O_voice.
That video above has nothing to do with this gallery but it had to be done, pure awesome.
Fast forward through 4 years of commercials and the Thundercats are loose once again! Super 7 and The Four Horsemen have revived the original Mattel Thundercats Classic line and are continuing on like nothing happened. Just a little time out. Wave 1 released recently, and features 4 figures that originally released via Mattel, but with updated features. Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Jackalman and Panthro kick off the Thundercats Ultimate line. We’ve run them all thoroughly and had a little fun too so read on to check out our thoughts and over 155 HD images including comparisons with the originals courtesy of Entertainment Earth!

Overall Thoughts:
Great start! I was all in on the original line (see our galleries here from 2016) and was super bummed when they stopped. I was hoping for a continuation under another company, and Super 7 delivered that exactly. The first wave allows those that missed out to jump back in without having to track down the old pieces. And for folks like me, we get some updates that are worth it IMO. Each have an additional new head. Colors are a tad brighter to capture the toon look. In addition, each get additional weapons and accessories which you can see below. Overall a great set of upgrades for those that want it, but you can skip it and still feel complete.
Lion-O gets a cartoon accurate Claw Shield, and one that allows for the retracted Sword of Omens to slip in. The old one had it molded in. The sword is also new, a bit thinner and more toon accurate. Mumm-Ra gets a fabric cape designed by the folks at CJESIM which is fantastic. Nice and bright plus wired all the way around so you can get it however you want it – including the hovering transformation to Ever Living mode. Panthro gets some cool Thundertank shades and Jackalman gets 3 new guns to go with his original melee weapons. There are others, but all those are what stood out to me as worthy new pieces.
Bottom line, quality and execution are on par or better than the originals. The main selling point for me – the line is continuing. We have already seen 16 figures with pre-orders. The only thing missing for a core early cast line up would be new kids, and a clear Jaga. All the early toon baddies and core Thundercats are now represented, once they come out. I appreciate the deeper roster stuff, but I’m content so long as that core cast is done. So, I’m in for the ride, bring it all on!
UPDATE: We originally had Panthro’s comparison shots reversed from the rest of the figures. We have fixed that. For reference – Mattel versions are on the left, and Super 7’s are on the right.
