The second release in the Golden Axe line is now available from Storm Collectibles. We previously took a look at the excellent Ax Battler and Red Dragon Set, and today we have a look at the new Skeletons 2-Pack. The figures are based on one of SEGA’s most recognizable classic arcade games. Golden Axe hit the scene in 1989, and has seen releases on a number of consoles over the years. In Golden Axe, you control one of three warriors looking to free the land of Yuria from the tyrant Death Adder. Along the way, you battle numerous enemies, including the undead Skeleton Warriors.
The set includes two Skeleton figures with multiple interchangeable hands, swords, and shields. We picked up the set from Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth. Check out our photo gallery and review after the jump.

Golden Axe – Skeletons 1/12 Scale Figure 2-Pack by Storm Collectibles
Pros
- Great looking sculpts
- Surprisingly good articulation and range of motion
- Works great with a number of other lines
- Easy to swap out hands
Cons
- None
Overall
The Skeleton Figures comes packaged in a collector friendly window box. The packaging features assorted design details pulled directly from the game. The back of the box showcases the figures, and some of the swap out parts. The figures and their accessories sit in plastic clamshell trays. Everything is easy to put back in for display or storage. Each Skeleton includes a sword, a shield, and four additional set of interchangeable hands.
In this 2-pack, the Skeleton Warriors are exactly the same, as they were in the game. The sculpted details, for being just bones, is pretty stellar. There’s a noticeable bone texture throughout, even though the pieces are fairly thin. an additional positive is that Storm hide the articulation joints well, making them feel like a natural part of the Skeletons. The range of motion is excellent, and they can each get into dynamic battle poses with no trouble. The joints are tight enough, and the figures light enough, that balancing never seems like a problem. Paint work is simple, with a light gray wash over most of the figure, and darker paint application for the yes and nose holes. The grip hands are just tight enough to hold the swords and shields. The figures do include a number of different hands, but they never felt necessary, and I am pretty happy just having them hold the sword and shield.
One of the great things about these figures is that if you just want a couple of Skeleton figures for a different line, then these fit the bill perfectly. They are tall enough to work with most 7″ scale figure lines. Both the Ax Battler and Skeleton 2-Pack seem to have sold very well, and I hope this leads to additional Golden Axe releases in the future. Like ax Battler, the Skeleton 2-Pack is worth tracking down and adding to your shelf. Check out a few select photos below, and the full gallery after that.

the skeleton being held aloft is such a great shot, absolutely stunning photos as always.
we spoiled.
If anyone wants to split a set of these, lemme know! I only need one haha
So cool. Would be a good starting point for LOTR Army of the Dead customs.
I love this set, great pics too! I also like to pose my Ax Battler holding the skels aloft since they are so light.
The photos are amazing, but so is the toy line. Storm has done a great job with a video game that has long been near and dear to many of our hearts. I hope Gillius Thunderhead, Death Adder, Tyrsis Flare, and lots of other bad guy cannon fodder come out in the future.
By the way, the skeletons were absolutely the toughest obstacles in the game. When 2 of them would surround you and slash away with those scimitars, your 3 little health bars disappeared pretty quickly!
These "Skells"...

They also remind me a little of the Army of Darkness skeleton army, but it's been a while since I've seen that.
Either way they're really fantastic figures for the price. I know Storm doesn't really do reissues much, but these guys would always be in demand I think. Glad they're giving a bloody one to Motaro. They should do a dead pool green variant later on too!
I will use this for the Scorpion fatality!
I was more excited for these until I realized how big they were. They really are 'Storm Scale'. It works with other Storm figures, but seeing them next to regular 7" figs, it's a little jarring. Maybe of you wanted giant skeletons for something...
The skeletons sculpt looks outstanding. My only gripe is the shields especially that logo.
Fantastic SHOTS!!! For a fantastic figure!
They should go all the way with these. Variants, extra head sculpts, etc. These have to be the best pure skeleton out there. I like that it's just a normal skeleton without the gear.
PLEASE STORM!!!!!!!!! MORE!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but, the ball joint connecting the pelvis to the spine seems to be prone to getting loose pretty quickly. Feels like the upper body might be too much weight for that small connection area.
One of my torso's came loose, but I was trying to see what I could and couldn't pull apart. Some of the ball joints seem really tight so I didn't bother to keep going.
