Today I’m playing a little catch up with a few items that have been out for a bit. The second wave of Doom action figures is in stores now from McFarlane Toys. This wave features the Doom Slayer (Phobos Variant) and a Maurader. The figures are based on their appearances in the excellent Doom Eternal video game. The Doom Slayer includes a shotgun and an arm blade. The Marauder includes an axe. Our friends at McFarlane Toys sent these over for review. After the jump you can check out the new photo gallery and my thoughts on the figures.

Doom Eternal – Doom Slayer Phobos Variant and Maurader 7″ Scale Figures by McFarlane Toys
Pros
- Excellent sculpts
- Good paint application
- Marauder has really solid articulation
Cons
- Doom Slayer could definitely use better leg and arm articulation
- Both could use some additional accessories
Overall
With these figures having been out for a bit, there’s probably not a lot to add. The packaging is pretty basic, and in-line with the current McFarlane Toys window boxes. Each sits in a plastic tray. The sculpt work is excellent on both figures, especially the Maurauder. There’s nice intricate armor work, varying textures throughout, and plenty of details to appreciate. The figures both look game accurate.
The Doom slayer has a Super Shotgun with the Meat Hook attachment, and a removable Doomblade for his left arm. The figure stands about 7″ tall, and has an ok amount of articulation. But the figure definitely needs updated arm and leg articulation if they do another release. The arms only have single jointed elbows, and no swivels. This prevents the figure from holding the shotgun properly or getting any real dynamic poses going. Thigh swivels would also be pretty useful. Paint apps are great, and the golden Phobos armor looks excellent. The metallic shine looks fantastic in person. The Maurader is a very solid overall figure. The figure includes his massive axe accessory. The figure stands a little taller than the Doom Slayer, thanks to the horns protruding from its head. The articulation is a step up compared to the Doom Slayer, as he has swivels built in at the elbows allowing him to hold his axe with both hands. The Maurader is an imposing looking figure with large heavy armor pieces throughout. In the game, he does have a shotgun and shield, which are not included here.
These figures are decent shelf additions overall. With a few more accessories and some better implemented articulation they would be absolute must buys. As is, fans looking for Doom figures should be mostly pleased with these. Check out some select photos below, and the full gallery after that.
