Alien – Glow-In-The-Dark Big Chap Alien Ultimate 7″ Scale Figure – San Diego Comic-Con 2020 Exclusive by NECA
Pros
- Great reuse of the Ultimate Big Chap Alien
- The glow-in-the-dark feature works well
- Great articulation on the Big Chap
- Mixes well with previous glow-in-the-dark NECA releases
Cons
- A few joints were a little too stiff
Overall
The glow-in-the-dark Big Chap Alien comes packed in a collector friendly flapped window box. The front flap features the iconic poster for the original film, with the Egg on the packaging being slightly flocked and also glows in the dark. On the back, you can see assorted photos of the figure and included accessories. The figure and most of the accessories sits on a plastic tray, with an additional try for the Egg base. Included are glow-in-the-dark versions of the Big Chap Alien, a Facehugger, a Chestburster, and an Egg with a base.
*Of note. While shooting this gallery, specifically during the glow-in-the-dark photos, my camera died. So this isn’t quite as extensive as I wanted the gallery to be, and I didn’t get to grab shots of the packaging glowing in the dark.
This release is a fun reuse of the Ultimate Big Chap Alien, which we took a look at back in January. The movie styled coloring has been replaced with a translucent green plastic, which glows in the dark. Outside of the paint, the figure, the egg, and the two mini creatures are all the same as the previous release. The green color is a bright neon green, and the figures and egg do have a small bit of paint here and there to bring out some of those sculpted details. The Big Chap keeps the silver paint on the teeth and nails. The smoke colored dome has been replaced with a completely clear one, which gives a great look at the sculpted skull underneath. The Big Chap uses the updated Ultimate body, which had improved articulation and range of motion. That hasn’t been hindered in any way here. However, a few of the joints, particularly the knees and hips, were tighter than I liked, so I resorted to a hair dryer to loosen them up. Once that was done, those articulation points felt normal. The Facehugger and Chestburster have small wired tails, which allows for them to be posed a bit.
The big draw here is the glow feature. It’s no surprise that it works great on these. I was using some high power lights while shooting, so they stayed glowing for a few minutes after I turned the lights off. As you can see from a few of the photos, it works great with the previously released glow-in-the-dark Alien Eggs. I was planning on shooting photos with the Glow-In-The-Dark AvP Alien Warrior, but my camera died before I was able to.
Stuff like this makes for fun exclusives. It’s a fun side release that feels like a call back to the 90’s Kenner era (though this isn’t specifically a Kenner tribute figure), and adds a nice bit of variety to the Alien line up. The figure and all the accessories are excellent, and the glow feature is always a fun addition. Check out a selection of photos below, and the full gallery after that.
NECA SDCC 2020 Exclusive Glow-In-The-Dark Big Chap Alien Ultimate Figure

I think is the first time I’ve ever not wanted most of the NECA SDCC exclusives. Besides the Tmnt Mutagen Musical and the City Demon Predator everything is kind of meh to me... which is a good thing because this is what exclusives are meant to be in a way, but I do wish the figures had some of the appeal of past exclusives... this Alien reveal while neat seems kind of random with the glow in the dark gimmick.
Hopefully the figures they show off over what would have been the SDCC weekend make up for it. Still holding out hope that we'll get Kane, Lambert and Dallas sans space suits.
Jesus NECA, way to shit the bed this year on exclusives

I’m a fan of this. As others have said, this is what an exclusive should be. Not a must have but a cool conversation piece. I like this, I may pick it up.
All the $$$ saved on NECA exclusives this year just bought me a Haslab Sentinel! lol,

Back to the glow in the dark Alien, I think I’m just going to refer to this as the Electromagnetic Predator Vision Big Chap to make it feel more desirable and make more sense than just another wacky looking figure on my shelf.
