NECA Godzilla 1989 Packaging 004

NECA has shared final in-packaging photos for their upcoming Godzilla 12″ Head-To-Tail Figure from Godzilla vs Biollante (1989). The figure is scheduled to ship to retailers beginning July 13th, and should hit stores by the end of July. The figure will stand about 6″ tall, with 30 points of articulation. Godzilla includes an atomic breath effect piece, and comes packed in a flapped window box. Check out the new packaging photos after the jump.

NECA continues to celebrate Godzilla, the most famous kaiju in the world in action figure form!

This version of the beloved monster is based on its appearance in the 1989 film, Godzilla vs Biollante. The figure measures 6″ tall and 12” long from head to tail. It features over 30 points of articulation, including an articulated tail!

Godzilla will come packaged in collector friendly window box packaging with opening flap.

Honestly, I've gotten to the point where I'm kind of numb to any new Godzilla announcement by NECA. Can anyone clarify what exactly they can do with the license currently? Can they make other Godzilla monsters or not?

It’s probably not going to matter. After the Biollante Bile and Maser Attack variants, the line goes on hiatus for the foreseeable future, as Legendary wants the focus to be Godzilla vs Kong merchandise. NECA doesn’t have that license.

Is the Biolante movie any good? I've always been more of a Showa fan.

Yeah, but unless I'm mistaken isn't NECA's license directly with Toho now? How does Legendary figure into it?

TOHO still has to work with Legendary, as the movie characters are still licensed from TOHO. It's likely just part of the licensing agreement to have the current film be the main focus of merchandising, which NECA misses out on.

    What a shame.

They had the keys to the kingdom, finally a toy company that could make all those wacky, awesome Showa monsters Bandai was too afraid to touch - and all we got was Godzilla in like 12 different flavors.

Check out more Heisei if you have the chance, there are some stupid fun movies in there. "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" is my favorite, but I have a soft spot for "Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla" as I adore SpaceGodzilla's design.

"Godzilla vs. Mothra" is the only one I'm not that crazy about but it's still enjoyable to watch.

It's in my top 10 and is easily the best of the Heisei era. In fact, it and 84 are really the only Heisei movies worth a damn. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah isn't bad, but the four after that are a mixed bag of messes with vs Mothra and vs Spacegodzilla being some of the franchise's worst films.

If you like the Showa movies, definitely check out Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla and Godzilla Tokyo SOS as they are very close to the Showa era in tone and execution.

The thing is, I don't see why they would need to go on hiatus this year now given GvsK got pushed back until next year. If they still have to go on hiatus, that means they can't release anything until the beginning of 2022, which is so fucking retarded.

It takes 9 to 12 months to go from concept to production. That's when there's not a lot of changes needed when the concept is presented to the licensor. The hiatus was planned at least in 2019, as we knew then they didn't get the Kong vs Godzilla license then. We've seen the final 2 releases before the hiatus was supposed to go into effect.

The movie just got pushed back. That means they'd now have to find a way to restart production. That's allocating resources that are already working on other projects, finding spaces for them on the factory lines that are likely already producing scheduled items. And that's all assuming that new items would get the green light while they wait for the new movie.

The first assortment of Playmates toys are already done (it's been leaked as far back as November), and ready to go. That first assortment is likely going to hit soon after the trailer drops, with the more spoilery toys hitting when the film is about to release.

Seriously, what an absolute waste. I have no idea what NECA was thinking, other than the fact that they seem to love killing off lines by getting a license and then milking one character over and over until all interest is gone and then saying "gee, we were GONNA make all those other characters, but the retail support just isn't there!"

I love those two movies. They're both really well-done, and they contain my favorite-ever Mechagodzilla design. When I can bear to part with the fortune it will take, I'd like to buy one of Bandai's SH Monsterarts Kiryu figures. Those things are beautiful.
