Storm Collectibles Announces Gatchaman License

Posted on April 29, 2020 at 11:24 am by Joe Moore under Anime Toy News

Storm Gatchaman

In a short post, Storm Collectibles has announced that they have acquired a license to produce Gatchaman (aka Science Ninja Team Gatchaman) collectibles. In Japan, Gatchaman was an animated series that ran in the early 1970’s, airing over 100 episodes. It followed a five-member team of superheroes, who take on the evil corporation GALACTOR. The series was adapted for English audiences as Battle of the Planets in 1978, and then again as G-Force: Guardians of Space in 1987 (US run in 1995).

No details have been released on what they plan to produce, but it could encompass either 1/12 scale figures, or statues. We’ll update as more info is made available.

Well, I'm excited. Hope they're not going to go with the bulky body types that they're known for..they need to have lithe bodies like in the cartoon and curious how they're going to do the capes.

They call them 1:12 but I would say they run more in the 1:10 size range... somewhere between ML 6in and Neca 7in... But if they make a new buck for this (hopefully- because they tend to be thick, beefy fighter type bodies now being it's all fighting games) it might come in closer to a 1:12 like their original MK ninja.

Add this to their pile of "Licensing Announcements" that have yet to produce even a grayscale prototype.

That’s the one thing I loathe about Storm Collectibles. They make some good figures, but they also announce this stuff way too early.

I look forward to maybe possibly getting one or two Gatchaman figures in 3 or 4 years' time and then having the line unceremoniously and quietly cancelled without any notice.

Ideally I'd love all 5 members of the Science Ninja Team/Gatchaman, Berg Katse, and a Galactor trooper (for some hot army-building action), but I know there's no chance of that ever happening. The only line Storm has been consistent with is Mortal Kombat, and that's only because there's a shitload of identical color-swap ninjas that they can use to milk the molds. Lines that require original body sculpts for each character never fare nearly as well.

I'm still waiting for any progress whatsoever on their Fist of the North Star line (other than the 1/12 Ken prototype they showed off ages ago and nothing since) and there hasn't been a peep about Darkstalkers since the initial announcement a while back. So fucking annoying.

In their NYTF 2020 catalog, they did show artwork from the game of Morrigan and Demetri, so we at least know who they're planning on making first. https://twitter.com/tendoutoys/statu...773766?lang=en

I’d say they’ve done well with Their Street Fighter line. Their Zangief, Sagat and Guile are all amazing and drastically different body styles.

I feel you on this. It’s really tough to get excited for these announcements when we go so long without any updates, or in some cases we don’t hear anything at all after the initial announcement. Such a weird way to handle their business.

And not defending them in any way, but their figures are easily some of my favorites out of anything from any company currently being put out (when they ARE actually put out)

I think their SFV line is done but their SF2 line is still going I think. But yeah they should be a little bit better than grabbing every license and then announcing it.

Other than the Diamond figures from 20 years ago, no line has ever gone deep with this property. Every company only puts out a Ken (and maybe a Joe) before calling it a day, for some reason.

Yeah, I guess I see announcements as a good way to drum up excitement (I've already seen people talking about them acquiring Gatchaman in places that don't usually talk about Storm products).
I don't think its as bad as people are making it out to be...Golden Axe was announced sometime in '18 and figures should be hitting soon and last year they announced a Jushin Liger figure and had that available months later. For all we know it could be the license holders that have been the reason for the hold up.

If these are 1/12 I am all in. I used to watch this show as a Kid.
