Pre-Order are Open for the Marvel Vintage Legends Beast

Posted on March 2, 2020 at 12:12 pm by Joe Moore under Marvel Toy News

Marvel Vintage Legends Beast 002

The Marvel Vintage Legends – Uncanny X-Men “Grey” Beast Figure is going live for pre-order now. The 6″ scale figure is packed on a vintage style card back. Beast includes two interchangeable portraits, swap out hands, removable eyeglasses, and a book. The figure is due to arrive this June. Pre-order at the links below.

While the Beast is incredibly strong and astonishingly agile, he is also one of the world’s leading experts in biochemistry. When he is not fighting evil alongside the X-Men, he devotes his time to expanding the frontiers of human knowledge.

A tribute to the history of Marvel Super Heroes, the Marvel Retro 6-inch Collection features core Marvel characters with retro packaging and design. Each figure includes multiple points of articulation, classic-inspired details, and character-specific accessories. Collectors and kids alike can expand their Marvel collection with 6-inch scale figures from the Marvel Retro Collection!

If this were blue it would be perfect! I really like the new head sculpt. Hasbro has captured the classic look perfectly.

Pardon my lack of comic knowledge, but when was he grey? I only know of the classic human look and the 90s blue fur look. This version reminds me too much of the recent grey Hulk figure we got so I'll probably pass on it, but I wish those glasses and book accessories had come with the blue version Hasbro previously released.

Funny that you bring up Hulk because like Banner, McCoy's original non-human form was grey. He first got the fur in 1972 but it became blue within the year.

Hmm, I'm tempted to get it for my Avengers display, but really I just wish it were blue. If this were how they'd handled his first release, I would have jumped on it.

He was grey when he first became furry. I forget how long he was like this for, but eventually he turned blue. I'm a bit surprised that Hasbro is giving us this look, but I'm happy to see it!

Is there a reason we're saying "portraits" instead of "heads"? Is it not a whole head, just a face perhaps? Grammatically it doesn't seem right to me at all. A portrait is a picture, not a 3d item.

I'm not sure what company started using that nomenclature, but I agree. Just call them heads, that's what these are. I guess some SH Figuarts and other lines have literal face plates and not entire heads, so maybe it makes more sense there.

Hasbro is starting to do that with figures too. The 6" Hoth Rebel Soldier in their Star Wars Black Series line is going to have an alternate faceplate you can swap out on his face rather than an entirely different headsculpt.

Portrait is an old toy insider term. It comes from sculptor's rendering faces like a 'Russian portrait'.

The Hulk went from grey to green in issue #2. This was done because the grey ink at the time was inconsistent and green was much easier to use and covered more evenly.

I wish Hasbro was crazy enough to also include a blue smart Beast alternate headsculpt with vintage Gray Beast... I guess that would make it weird for MOC collectors though with a random blue head in there, but I bet hardly any Legends collectors are MOC collectors.

I’m glad he comes with such lab gear standards as an old book and glasses. I guess they couldn’t just say “smart guy stuff.”

I'm amazed that there are people that didn't expect to see repaints of a unique body mold. Hasbro put a lot of work into the Beast body mold and they are going to use it as much as they can. That is why we are getting Dark Beast, that is why we are getting gray Beast, and that is why they did not give blue Beast these accessories, or else you wouldn't buy this one. I am sure that down the line we will get another blue Beast with this new head as well.

Much like how we have gotten 4 variations of the Hulk body, and I am sure more to come, we will see a few variations of Beast as well. I do think that the new head seems a bit... mismatched to the body though. Looks like it would fit more on the Jackal while also fitting more with that old school look.

I dunno that people are complaining they’re reusing the molds. It’s just they made this awesome standard Beast that the only criticism of was the headsculpt. So then they made a new headsculpt more in line with what people wanted, but, hey, funny story, it’s grey! Oh, and BTW they gave this version two heads when the original only had the one.

And yeah, zero possibility they don’t rerelease blue Beast with this new head, but this is a big tease and seems sorta tone deaf. I swear toy companies are starting to treat toys like video game DLC sometimes.

So this mold is the same one that just got released last year right?

Yes, this is a repaint of Beast from the Caliban wave without the belt but with the new head and accessories.

JL Beast buck is too huge to be a proper classic Avenger. Hasbro needs to make a Beast buck that falls in between JL buck & Jackal buck. Perez or Byrne Beast is the one version that needs to be made. Include a "smiley" head sculpt & alternate "growing/exposed fangs" head sculpt & it's a done deal. That Grey head sculpt has zero matchability with the JL Beast "yelling" head sculpt. Smaller head & the hair is styled in the classic version. This Grey Beast seems mailed in to me.
