I want to like Taskmaster... and I do almost entirely, but that damn helmet does not do it for me. I wish we could stick to accuracy completely here, but I understand that people would probably confuse him with Red Skull if they went full-on skull head. Regardless, I think it could have been executed better.

Great-looking figures (Taskmaster's movie design is really starting to grow on me), but HOLY SHIT do I love the horrible Engrish in this press release. Best lines:

"This Black Widow is a luxurious content that comes with a new weapon and effect parts in addition to a realistic head with digital coloring of the soul."

    "Achieving reproducibility of assent."

"Mysterious enemies task master first appeared at the movie release timing"

"In addition to the magical battle style that is attracting attention in this work, guns, swords, shields, and bow equipment are used to reproduce numerous fierce battles with Black Widow!"

"Reproduce the charm of the new character with great care."

It's not a press release, it's Tamashii's Japanese product description. They just auto translate it now using Google Translate.

Something about the taskmaster figure makes me think it’s a woman under the mask/hood. Does anyone else get that vibe?

EDIT: I think it’s the slender look in the arms and legs?

I don't this figure is the best to use as evidence. Figurarts tends to favor a slim build.

Because the actor who's playing Taskmaster hasn't been officially revealed, it has sparked silly rumors that he may actually be one of the female characters in the movie in disguise. One of the theories is that it's Rachel Weisz's character, but come on. Revealing Taskmaster to really be a 50-year-old woman...yeah, that would be pretty fucking lame.

Honestly, I don't think there's really much to these rumors at all. The main reason they probably haven't revealed Taskmaster's actor is because he's just being played by random stuntmen. Since Taskmaster's powers are all about his ability to pull off complex fight moves that he's observed, they probably just went with athletic guys who were physically able to do really elaborate fighting and acrobatic moves...things most regular actors couldn't dream of doing.

Also, I don't usually mind when they play around with the gender or ethnicity of certain characters when they bring them to the screen, but it would piss me off and Taskmaster's case since, if you read the comics, you'd know that him being a gruff and tough-talking guy is a central part of his character, with the Brooklyn accent and all.

    So yeah, I don't think he's a woman.

Oh, looked at some of their Captain America and Falcon figures and yea, they do have a slimmer build. But, even with that into account, don't you think this one looks a little more slimmer, and narrower shoulders too perhaps?:-

Oh, I did not know about the rumor. If the figure is developed with accuracy, and not just a Figuarts proportions with the slim build, I would very much wager that this is a female under the hood though. I am not too familiar with the character to comment on whether it is a plausible substitution though.

Looking at the only movie still of Taskmaster I could find, I think it is most likely a woman though because the proportions do seem smaller:-

The Marvel Legends MCU Taskmaster is as tall and bulky as the MCU Captain America figures, which is to say he's about a head taller than Black Widow and broader in every proportion.

Also, yeah, Samus Aran-ing Taskmaster would be stupid to the point of hilarity.

If that's a woman in the Taskmaster costume, it's a woman over six feet tall with size thirteen feet.

All signs point to Taskmaster being played by this guy (second from the left in the convention pic, far left in the other two), O.T. Fagbenle:

He's listed as playing "Rick Mason, An ally from Romanoff's S.H.I.E.L.D. past who is romantically interested in her.", who is an existing Marvel character, but seems to be the kind of insignificant-enough character that they'd be ok with morphing into something new, or in this case, somewhat merging with another. The villain turning out to be Nat's former love interest seems like the kind of reveal they'd pull with a masked character, so it makes sense to me.

Having Gwendoline Christie playing Taskmaster would be cool, but unfortunately I don't think that's what they're going for.

How cliché. I guess they could always kill him off and replace him with the amnesiac Tony Masters later on, though.

I don't think Christie's "awkward lumber" style of locomotion would really suit a character whose agility is on par with Spider-Man.

According to this pic, Taskmaster is roughly the same size as Red Guardian, give-or-take. Maybe it's just a dude that doesn't have mile-wide shoulders? We'll see, I guess.

If that thought is based on the latest trailer, don't forget - the scenes shown within it could very well be the only times this character appears on screen

I really hope that’s not the case though.

Heh, yeah, that occurred to me too. It could be another Phasma/Fett/Maul scenario. There is a bit of dialogue in the trailer that implies he could be tied in with her backstory so we'll see...

Have to agree with you guys. Disney does not have the best track record in this regard.

Also, after reading up on Taskmaster, isn't he a bit out of Black Widows league? He feels more like a Captain America villain than one that would be matched by the likes of Black Widow.

Well she does have help so that might even the odds. It's also possible that movie Taskmaster won't actually have the photo-reflex power, just that he has rigorously studied the fighting of others, and would be more susceptible to something new or unorthodox.
