Birds of Prey - Harley Quinn Figure by Hot Toys

Am not super thrilled with the design choices for the character this time around, and they missed Margot Robbie's likeness, I think she has one of those faces that's hard to get right in sculpt. This is close but something seems off.
"Hey! Let's take one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood and make her look like a disgusting, disease-ridden juggalo crack whore! The kids will eat it up!"
Seriously, this figure is gross. I mean, it looks just like her, but that's the problem.

Personally I wish HQ used his traditional suit colors. That doesn't mean it has to be the exact same one from BTAS or anything in the new52 but it could be a uniform/costume. Though I do appreciate the patterns.
Though the character clearly uses her maniac pixie sexuality to her advantage.
Also Harley is generally a villain. She's not meant to be a role model for kids. Like she's a case of someone with a mental disorder trying to be a better person given her life choices but still....
Figure wise. That looks like the actress to me. If it looks off, well it's still a scale figure stuck in one face due to being an inanimate object.

Figure looks good but I'm not really interested. Not a fan of the costume myself, but looks eh in general. The movie is getting good reviews so who knows, maybe I'll change my mind.
A few posts deleted. I will not tolerate people coming in just to stir up trouble.
And the costume isn't "interesting," IMO. It looks like she mugged a homeless 70's roller skater after escaping from the methadone clinic.
The only real Harley, IMO:
I go to 2 anime conventions a year, and since Suicide Squad's trailer (Not the release of the actual movie, just the first trailer) I've seen no less than 10 SS Harley Cosplayers per convention. I've seen classic, Arkham, gender-bent, and variants of Harley in this same time frame, but the overwhelming majority have been of the SS version.

I don't understand the rationale behind this character design. She just looks angry and ugly.

I’m guessing Hot Toys will make a few versions, but this expression isn’t very desirable. I think the likeness is good, but maybe an extra happier head would have been nice.

Speaking of which, what Phicen body would go best with that Harley Quinn head?
I'm thinking Suntan mid 23b (extra detailed bits), as 12d would be an overkill.

Perhaps to put it differently, you can always evaluate between designs comparatively at least. One design can be said to communicate a character better than a different design. In that sense, since Harley is supposed to be a Harlequin, you would expect that fact to be communicated (just like Joker should communicate that he is a clown/jester). The more clearly these truths are communicated, the better the design.
As an aside though, if you subscribe to a realist view rather than a nominalist/conceptualist view, then art does become an objective field. The Harley costume here would qualify under such a realist analysis as objectively ugly. But, that is outside of the scope of a toy forum for sure haha.

So they're naked porno-style bodies? Eeew, you're gross too.

Sorry you just can't accept that people like the costume. It doesn't have to literally look like a harlequin.

The problem with the Harley in SS was that she looked more like a prostitute with her attire. It would be at least understandable if that was her established costume in the comics, but it wasn't the case either. Dressed like a prostitute does not communicate that one is aiming to be funny as well. So it is a mixed message i.e. incoherent.
As for Harley looking like a harlequin, if she DID look like a harlequin, then the design would be coherent. Otherwise, one must concede that the design is incoherent.
