The Rise of Skywalker is almost here, and this week we’ll be posting some catch up galleries for recent Star Wars Black Series figures. First up today are two exclusive C-3PO team up releases. The Target exclusive Rise of Skywalker C-3PO with Babu Frik is available now in stores. The second is the recently released Amazon exclusive Chewbacca and C-3PO set from their Empire Strikes Back appearance.
The Target TRoS figure features Chewbacca’s shoulder bag and gun, along with the little guy from the trailers fixing 3PO’s head – Babu Frik. Big fan of that guy’s name :). 3PO isn’t just a repaint, he has some new features – his head plate comes off the back exposing wires for Mr. Frik to mess around with. He also has color change eyes to red, again from the trailers. The tech for that works well, if you make the eyes cold they go red really quickly. An ice cube or bag of veggies does the trick. After that 3PO features a nice metallic sheen slightly different from past releases but it works. Babu has arm articulation at the shoulder and a flip up visor.
The Amazon Empire set is also solid. Chewbacca’s body is the same but features a new headsculpt not yelling, and is a tad sharper than previous releases. Really captures the Wookie’s on-screen appearance. Color blocking is similar to the first release with some variation, overall on par. He doesn’t come with his bow gun, but rather a blaster you’d get with a Stormtrooper. The star is the backpack and 3PO though. The netting pack works well, elastic band slips under Chewey’s head fur and you can barely see it. 3PO breaks down so all his limbs detach and you get some wire cappers for each joint. All in all it’s a perfectly executed set, I have no complaints.
Read on to check out images for both sets after the break, and stay tuned all week as we catch up on some more Star Wars Black Series!
