Final Packaging Photos of the Candyman 8-Inch Figure by NECA

NECA Candyman Packaging 1

NECA Toys has posted finalized in-packaging photos of their upcoming Candyman 8″ Scale Clothed Figure. The figure includes a fabric outfit, a removable “Swarm of Bees” chest, and two interchangeable head sculpts. It’s scheduled for release in early 2020. You can check out the new photos after the jump.

We dare you to say his name five times! From the classic horror film series #Candyman! The terrifying slasher films told the story of vengeful urban legend Candyman, who could be summoned by speaking his name five times in front of a mirror.

NECA’s clothed action figure features the likeness of legend Tony Todd in two forms – interchangeable heads allow regular and bee-covered expressions. The figure also has an elaborate soft goods coat and comes with an attachable “bee swarm” chest.

Not a fan of this film series, but I'm glad we're getting this. It gives me hope that we might one day see a Tall Man (Phantasm) or a Harry Warden (My Bloody Valentine.) Plus...Tony Todd was a pretty awesome dude when I got to meet him.

He's never said that. He has tried multiple times to get The Thing license to do MacRady specifically multiple times. He attempted to do a sweeping "Universal" license to get multiple properties from them, but they couldn't ever reach an agreement.

Also, there is some type of issue withe The Thing license in general. Chronicle Collectibles is currently holdign a license for statues, and is prohibited from producing anything due to the issue (they wouldn't tell me what the specific problem was).

I really wish some company would tell us the problem, PCS and Chronicle got held up and if we knew what the issue was maybe we could start a petition or something to get them made!

Oh. Geez, all this time I thought that Randy just wasn't interested. "The Thing is too obscure" line has been repeated numerous times here by various posters and this is the first time I've seen you correct it.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. I feel better knowing that he at least tried. Hopefully things'll clear up with the license in the future.

Too obscure is definitely not the case, especially with Neca. I know The Thing movie and I'm not a horror buff at all. I'm pretty sure there are more fans of The Thing than many of the other franchises that get figures. I gotta agree with Joe that's it's a gotta be a licensing issue.

I'm sure Neca would make killer figures based on the various forms of The Thing. Hopefully it gets cleared up at some point. Movie product licensing, especially of catalog films that may have been split up over many different sales and bankrupted production companies, can be a very tangled web.

Been hearing about this for a while now. The licenses for a lot of classic movies we love from the 80s are going through a lot of turmoil as of late due to an congressional amendment in the late 70's. Long story short, it made it so that the creators could take back the rights to the franchise they created from the studio after a few decades. We're hitting that "few decades" point right now with a lot of major beloved franchises and it's making it really difficult for people to get merchandising rights or at least the right to make action figures. Another issue with stuff like this also happens to be likeness rights granted by actors, which can in some cases muddy up the process of trying to get a figure or a line of figures made.
