Early Look: John Wick Select from Diamond Select Toys In-Hand Gallery

DST John Wick 32

Well, John wasn’t exactly The Boogeyman. He was the one you sent to kill the f*****g Boogeyman. John Wick has been a pleasant surprise in the sea of superhero movies over the last couple years, just pure action with a slow build of an extended universe that leaves you wanting more. They’ve done 3, with a fourth and potential TV show in the works. Merch is finally starting to hit shelves for the franchise, like today’s Diamond Select Toys John Wick Select. This is the first figure release by DST, they also have statues and various other formats available.

We have an early look at him courtesy of Diamond Select Toys. Read on for some thoughts and 30+ HD images!

Overall Thoughts:

Well done, DST. Well done. This is one of the few figures from any company where the final version actually looked better than the promotional pics. The face sculpt and paint application on the head is significantly better than the ones on the box, which we’ve seen in previews since it was announced. It’s very close to capturing Keanu Reeves perfectly. The body is a standard suited situation, but has full articulation throughout. Double jointed knees and elbows, the elbows being great for gun poses. T-Crotch, rocker ankles, cuts in the upper shoulder and upper thighs. Torso cut and swivel. It’s all there. Weapons are well done, you get 3 large pieces, a handgun, a knife, and what looks to be a holstered gun. He also comes packed with his puppy that triggered the chaos and a life size gold coin used by the underworld of assassins he is part of.

The only downside, and it’s subjective at that, he’s big. This is 7 inch scale, but he towers over other 7 inch figures. Not just in height, but overall frame. So he feels big next to other figures. By himself, or with other similar DST figures, no problem.

Bottom line, fantastic figure and worthy of a pick up, especially for the price of 25 bucks. MAFEX and MEZCO have versions out or coming but are significantly higher in price, and right now DST is just as good or better depending on your tastes.

He will be shipping to local comic shops and online retailers soon, get your orders in!

Amazing photos as always Tony! Absolute joy to go through them!

On the figure, is it just me, or does he not look a little more like Nicholas Cage from some angles haha?

    Amazing photos! Wow! Seriously impressive!
The figure is too BIG! What the heck were they thinking? That’s like 8” scale. Such a shame, because I would have loved to pick this one up. The scale ruins it for me, look at him next to the Terminator, that sucks! Great sculpt though.

It's like 90% there for dead on. The other 10% is Nicolas Cage.

Thanks to all on the props, for some reason when I got a wick fig in front of me things click.

RE: Scale - I am not sure what DST Select figs run lately. I know the Gotham ones were big, but can't remember how much bigger than NECA / McFarlane style they were. So not sure if par for the course. Each company rocks their own scale. But for me, it's a tad bigger than I would want. If it were closer to that Terminator, or even slightly taller, I'd prefer that.

That being said, this is a super well done fig standing on it's own.

I got the Jules from Pulp Fiction that DST did a couple of years ago and he's also notably taller than NECA figures, including the Terminator. I guess Diamond runs on the larger spectrum of what we still label 7" scale.

This is an awesome figure! Yeah this John Wock figure is a little too tall, but at the end of the day he’s not too out of place. Keanu is about 6’1” and should run about the same height as a Terminator (Arnold and Samuel L. Jackson are about 6’2” ) but it’s not to far fetched to imagine John Wick a littlle more imposing height-wise.

Plus with his excellent spread of accessories and strong likeness I can overlook inconstancies in height and scale.

    What you said.

I'm feeling tempted to get one of these but I'm not sure if I'd want this one or the sequel version.

Ugh, what are they doing with scale?? I had my preorder for this already process and had I seen this I would have canceled it. Most people buying DST’s film/TV figures likely want to incorporate them into a 7” scale collection of like figures...and most of DST’s other offerings fit. This is confusing.

I do. The overall sculpt, head are tops. Just too big for mixing with other lines. If it was Marvel Legends scale, or even standard NECA/McFarlane 7 scale, would be perfect.

I have the 2 Mafex ones, both are a bit loosey, and the heads are both "eh". I don't have MEZCO coming, I don't prefer the soft goods personally, head is ok there, but soft features.

1/6th - could be ok but again, head a bit off and soft goods, and spensive.

Just pick your poison, there is something acceptable in all the above though.

Thanks for the reply, I had assumed good things about the Mafex Wick. I've got the Mezco on preorder, I like that it's pretty packed. The Hot Toys was as well, but I'm not even that huge a fan,I've only seen the movies once, I just like the suit and guns combo lol.

Great pics and review Tony, as always.

It really is a shame this does not scale that well with others. I only went with the Wick 2 from MAFEX, I'm okay/fine with it having the better headsculpt from the previous version, but I know my expectations from them with loose joints.
I dream of a Wick figure with better soft goods, think it would be cool if someone made a figure that looked accurate with the Itallian "tactical lining" suit. Luckily Wick franchise has got a few years of life left.

I'm glad I was able to see these images, I just cancelled my preorder before it was too late. I didn't fully love the first release because of its massive size, seeing how wildly out of scale the new version is kills my desire for it.
