Alien 40th Anniversary – Quarter Scale Big Chap Alien by NECA

40th Anniversary Quarter Scale Big Chap Alien 011

NECA has posted photos and details for their upgraded Alien – Big Chap Alien 1/4 Scale Figure for the 40th Anniversary of the original Alien film. The figure has upgraded articulation, and a new sculpt. It will stand 22″ tall. Look for the figure to be released in November. You can check out the photos after the jump.

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original 1979 movie that shocked audiences and jump-started a legendary film franchise!

We’ve given a deluxe upgrade to the Xenomorph known to fans as “Big Chap,” with an all-new sculpt standing over 22” tall. It has a hinged jaw that opens, revealing an inner mouth that extends for realistic movie action. It has over 30 points of articulation, including double knee joints and a bendable tail, and extra attention has been paid to all the eerie details that made H.R. Giger’s designs for Alien so mesmerizing.

The packaging is a special tribute to the 1979 Kenner Alien figure!

I remember buying the original quarter scale big chap-at a discount-and that thing just about breaking right out of the box. Still tho, I'm kinda interested lol..

Is that really an "all-new sculpt"...? My girlfriend has the quarter-scale prototype Xeno (the light-colored one) and I don't see any difference.

It isn’t. if anything it may have a slightly better range of movement and a swivel where the bendable tail begins, but other than that it looks to be a rerelease if anything.

Exactly. So if that's the case, isn't claiming "all-new sculpt" actually blatantly false advertising?

I’d say it’s getting pretty darn close. But without seeing or having the final product in hand it’s tough to say for sure.

It could technically be an all new sculpt, but since the details are so similar (for obvious reasons) you couldn't tell til it's in hand. In fact, their first Robocop was done by Kyle Windrix and the spring-loaded holster Robocop was done by Thomas Gwyn, but unless you held them side by side you probably wouldn't notice any differences, just because they're based on the same character

That could be true, but if it is it wouldn’t make sense for them to re-sculpt it with the same articulation scheme as before with the swivel shoulders, single jointed elbows, and double jointed knee design. They would give it the updated articulation we’re seeing now on the 7in version.

In fact, in many cases when NECA updates an older figure it’s not becuase it was inaccurate, it’s usually to pack more accessories and articulation. NECA’s 79 movie alien has been screen accurate for years. I could be wrong, but I doubt this version has a detail the previous 1/4 didn’t have.

My childhood comic shop had the original version on display by the cash register. Used to scare the crap outta me. I didn't know anything about it other than it was really scary and leaning out at people as the customer waited for his carbon-paper receipt.

Yes. dirty, messy carbon paper... now scarier than any alien!

I too have the first release. Glued in many spots. Do I need this just for the box? Yes, yes I do.
