Back in 2017, The NECA Store launched the Alien Club. Fans of NECA’s Aliens line could sign up and get that years Aliens figures directly from NECA. The draw was that you would get the figures directly from the NECA warehouse, essentially around the same time they would hit the NECA eBay and Amazon stores. Members received a 2-part Kenner Aliens diorama, and there was an exclusive figure. Fans who kept their membership up throughout 2017 had the opportunity to pre-order the Kenner Tribute Purple Alien Warrior. The figures colors are based on the Alien artwork that appeared in Kenner’s card art for the toy line.
The figure has been delayed all through 2018. But I am happy to share some great news with fans who have been waiting for an update. By this Monday, June 10th, the Purple Alien Warrior will begin shipping to customers! Fans in the U.S. will receive theirs directly from NECA. Fans in the U.K. and Europe who ordered the figure will have a slight delay, as the figure is shipping to their local distributors who will mail them out to fulfill orders.
To commemorate the long awaited release, I have a special first look gallery and review! Our friends at NECA have supplied us with the figure that’s shipping next week, I run it through a new photo gallery. After the jump, check out my photo shoot and thoughts on the new figure. and keep an eye on your mailboxes, as the figure should be in hands very soon!
Alien Club Exclusive – Kenner Tribute Purple Alien Warrior 7″ Scale Figure by NECA Toys
- Excellent new color scheme
- Looks great with the other colorful Aliens
- Ultimate body style provides great range of motion
- Sculpt is still excellent
- No accessories or interchangeable parts
The Purple Alien Warrior is packaged in the plastic card backs that many of the Kenner homage figures have been released in. The card art is the same as we’ve seen, with a new insert to showcase the Purple Warrior. You will need to cut the plastic to remove the figure. No accessories are included. Cut or twist off a few twist ties and the figure is ready for display.
Looking over the figure, the new color scheme looks to be spot on to what was proposed back in 2017. The purple hues a little closer to blue, with numerous paint washes throughout to bring out the sculpted details. There are also additional color highlights throughout, such as touches of darker purples, and baby blue paint apps or parts. The head sculpt features a solid dome, with painted on highlights and shadows to mimic the coloring of the artwork. Overall, the colors look great. It fits the Kenner tribute line perfectly, but also looks great next to any of the other brightly colored Alien figures.
The figure itself is the same detailed sculpt we’ve come to see on the Alien Warrior figures. The detail work is great as always and the purple coloring works well on the mold. The figure has about 30 points of articulation, including bendable fingers and hinged toes which help for balance and dynamic poses. Joints were all nice and solid, and the figure had no locked joints. I never needed to heat up the joints while posing, and none of the joints were noticeably loose.
It will be great to see fans get the figure they have waited over a year for. Hopefully fans will feel the wait was worth it. The Purple Alien Warrior is a fine addition to the Kenner line, and a figure that won’t likely see release again. Check out some select photos below, and the full gallery after that.
