Rolling Gallery: Round 2 is here! We have updated this post with more shots of the first round of McFarlane Game of Thrones figures. Fresh this week are shots of their first Dragon – Viserion. There is also a slight spoiler if you haven’t seen episode 3 yet. Original post continues below…
Winter is HERE. Game of Thrones is in it’s final run, and we are all on the edge of our seats waiting to see what happens. McFarlane Toys have a nice set of 6 inch figures out now for the series – later season versions of Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen and a Night King. They also have two (out of scale) Dragons – Viserion which is out now and the soon to drop Drogon. Both of these hearken back to the days of McFarlane’s dragon line of figures, though are a tad smaller.
To celebrate the march to the Iron Throne, we are going to try something new – a rolling gallery. We’ll kick things off today, and then update this post with new shots each week. So read on to check out round one of our Game of Thrones gallery!
Going to do shots for the McFarlane GoT figures over time, hopefully a round each week.
First round is up now including base shots for the 6 inch figures and some fancy pants ones.
Will dig into the Dragon this week. Hopefully they all aren't dead after tonight lol.
Game of Thrones – Winter is Here, and So Are the McFarlane Figures
McFarlane face sculpts always suck for real people. I will pick up the Nightking though
The Jon looks okay. to me. But the Arya and Daenerys look awful.
Makes me wonder if Todd is hiding the Harry Potter figures because they crapped the bed on the face sculpts again.
The joints are as ugly as usual, I see.
That Dany face sculpt is just awful.
Like bad for the 1990's terrible.

I have some of the funkos, and they are ok for me, not really going for these, except the dragons...
I saw these all in store last week at Target, and while most of them look pretty good in person, Daenerys looks TERRIBLE. Ugh what the heck.
Updated with shots of Viserion
Game of Thrones – Winter is Here, and So Are the McFarlane Figures
I still wish Funko would do GoT figures cause the McFarlane sculpts are crap. Also still wish we could get book version but unfortunately I know that will never happen.
I think the sculpts themselves are pretty good, but the execution of paint at the production level was not as good as protos. I also think that the molds suffered from the manufacturing process, they are slightly different than the protos as well, softer, more bulbous in certain areas. Proto to Mass didn't translate well on the faces. The bodies, paint, weathering, accessories are all well done. Just the super fine details on the heads got lost, coupled with poor paint application.

Not making excuses, they could be better, but I think if someone with paint skill redid those heads now, using the mold that's there, they'd hold their own.
This was done in Photoshop, but it shows that slight tweaks can make a world of difference.
