This year marks the 40th anniversary of Alien. The sci-fi horror film was directed by Ridley Scott and written by Dan O’Bannon. Alien is a film that has aged beautifully, with stunning futuristic set designs, and iconic creature designs by artist H.R. Giger. A franchise was spawned, when director James Cameron brought Aliens to the screen in 1986. Every bit as riveting as the original, Aliens swapped out horror for action, and expanded the mythology in fantastic ways. The film franchise has taken some strange twists and turns in the years since, never quite recapturing the magic of the original two films.

While the the film franchise has had its ups and downs, there have been some outstanding expansions of the lore from comic books, novels, video games, and numerous toy lines. Thanks to ever advancing production capabilities, and talented creators, the market for collectibles has never been stronger. The variety of licensed products for Alien is staggering. From action figures, prop replicas, statues, and vinyl figures, there are items available for nearly any budget.

For the past four years, April 26th has been celebrated as “Alien Day”. Using the date 4/26 to call back to LV-426, the planet the Aliens were first encountered, Alien Day  has always given fans something to celebrate. Product makers have used the day to either preview upcoming collectibles, or to launch specialized or exclusive items. Alien Day 2019 is no different. I’ve rounded up a listing of many of the items you can purchase today, as well as new announcements or previews. If it’s from something we don’t normally cover, you’ll find it here, but we’ll also be sharing any relevant statue or action figure news throughout the day as they are announced. Reebok – Alien 40th Anniversary Alien Stompers “Bishop Edition”

Forty years after Alien (1979) introduced Earth to the mother of all sci-fi nightmares, Reebok is rewinding the story back to the 1970s for an upgraded unisex prototype edition of the iconic ‘Alien Stomper’ sneaker boots. Originally appearing in Aliens (1986) as the signature ass-kicking footwear of franchise hero Ellen Ripley, the new 40th Anniversary Alien Stomper draws inspiration from the original Alien film to create the most series-authentic Alien Stomper yet.

The 40th Anniversary Alien Stomper is an upgraded take on the classic 1986 silhouette. The new edition now features premium-aged leather construction, a material innovation that enhances the sneaker’s tactile experience while also lending it a vintage “from the vaults” appearance.

Arriving in a cream-white colorway with contrasting blood-red and anthracite detailing, the unisex sneaker is oozing with minute design touches and Easter eggs for die-hard fans. Those details include references to a host of pre-production designs and logos that were never actually used in the film’s final production making them true prototypes in both our universe and the universe of Alien.  For example, eagle-eyed fans will take special notice of an ultra-rare deviant version of the logo used by the Alien franchise’s infamous “Weyland-Yutani” corporation, which drops the “D” to read just “Weylan-Yutani”.

The Stomper’s new packaging is just as lovingly detailed as the sneaker itself. Reebok spared little expense in researching and creating materials for the packaging, which will arrive with a swarm of Alien in–universe goodies to help maximize the immersion factor. The full loadout includes:

• A certificate of authenticity, backed by the good name of the Weylan-Yutani corporation
• Custom dust bags for protecting your stompers from hostile forces
• An official ‘Bug Stomping’ field guide
• Three unique hang tags, including the alternate Weylan-Yutani logo and an official Alien 40th Anniversary badge

The sneaker will arrive in a triangular prism-shaped “Space Fleet Box”, a retro-future design that imagines what a 22nd century Reebok box would look like through the eyes of 1979-era sci-fi design.

Alien Day 2019 – Alien ReAcion Figures Bill Gold Poster Editions

For our part, we’re huge fans of Ridley Scott, and HR Geiger.  I have these “pinch myself” moments on the regular, having the ability to work on these amazing creations from these amazing creators.  Our only job; to do these brilliant creators, painters, directors, and creatives justice, in the TLS (fun), Action Vinyls way.  We hope we achieve that basic criterion.  And if we do, that means the story is now in your hands, to ignite your creative engines, and lose yourself in the power of story.  We did!

Aliens – The ultimate metaphor for life, competition, and the relentless pursuit of dominance, and/or annihilation by a non-deterred life force/plague.  A Darwinian game of the highest order, where the stakes, zero-sum.  With a few brave souls resolute to turn the tides, to push back, to live another day.  Aliens is rich with metaphor…that’s the power of story, the power of symbolism, the power of an anecdote, in this case, a literalization, and an eyeless face to the Armageddon which fits many shoes – Climate change, disease, the extinction of a species, a  warning….
