Press Release – NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Line Goes Global

Posted on April 22, 2019 at 1:01 pm by Joe Moore under Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Toy News

Earlier this month, stores from around the globe began listing pre-orders for NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Figures. These figures had, until recently, only been available in the United States and Australia. This was due to a restricted licensing agreement, which has slowly been loosened over the years. Thanks to the new agreement, fans around the world will be able to purchase the popular TMNT toys locally. See the details below.

NECA’S TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES LINE GOES GLOBAL!

Licensing agreement with Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products expanded to include international territories

April 22, 2019 – U.S.-based National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) announced today the expansion of its licensing agreement with Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products (VNCP) for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). For the first time ever, NECA’s distribution agreement will include international markets, allowing its bestselling TMNT action figures and collectibles to be sold in dozens of countries around the world from Asia to Europe to South America.

NECA first acquired the TMNT license in 2016 and has produced an expansive line of collector products based on the franchise’s movies and animated series, including action figures, prop replicas, accessories, collectibles and more. Until now, NECA items have only been available in the U.S., and this expansion into international markets will bring NECA’s TMNT product to fans around the world.

“Bringing our Turtle product to fans worldwide is something we have wanted for years. Thanks to our great partnership with Nickelodeon, we are so grateful to finally give loyal international Turtle fans – who have been supporting our TMNT line since its inception – an opportunity to collect this fantastic range,” said Randy Falk, NECA’s director of product development.

I saw this and I'm mildly intrigued.

I say mildly because this could still be:

    a) The 1/4-scale figures only which are useless to me
    b) Weird retailer / online exclusives which are practically impossible to get

    or

    c) All of the above

But if these are the 7-inch movie and / or cartoon turtles available through the usually NECA sellers around the globe – then well, that’s all I ever asked for.

Well I don't know about you, but I already find the 1/4 figures in France, so I guess it might be something else?

I think the 1/4-Turtles were US exclusive as well? Just widespread releases, unlike the GameStop exclusive 7-inch movie Turtles and the Target exclusive cartoon 2-packs. Which meant retailers outside of the US could import the 1/4-scale figures and sell them with a markup which I have seen happening a couple of times.

None of the NECA Turtles releases had any official release outside the USA as far as I know. So these could very well be just the quarter scale figures which would suck IMO.

But here's hoping it's the 7-inch ones, preferably all of them. I would be really happy if they could bring the cartoon TMNT 2-packs over, they look awesome and there's plenty of new stuff in the pipeline with Slash, General Traag, Granitor and of course: Bebop and Rocksteady.

Well I know I've seen them in at least 2 comic shops around here, but I'll admit I didn't check the price at the time since I'm not interested in 1/4 figures, so it might as well have been figures bought directly from BBTS or something, sold with quite a markup price!

In any case, we're in the same boat. Fingers crossed for 7" figures!

Confirmed that (at least) the Cartoon TMNT 2-Packs are getting international releases.

Hell yeah. That is exactly what I wanted. Kudos NECA, I was honestly getting a bit annoyed over the "we can only release them once licensing issues clear up"-talk, but as it appears you’ve been working on it the whole time.

I'm gonna buy all of them and hope that Bebop, Rocksteady and the others will also be released here.

Oh, thank goodness. Now everyone living in countries that aren't the good ol' US of A can stop coming here and whining about how they can't get this stuff.

I'm glad they're getting released for fans overseas, these aren't worth paying insane import prices, so NECA making these easier for the international crowd to obtain is a great thing.

My local German e-tailer of choice, space-figuren.de, just put them up for pre-order, 64,99€ per set. I pre-ordered all four

There's also what I assume are new product pictures attached to them? I'll share them here just in case.

Good to see more sites popping up. I don't think those are "official" photos. Likely just a fans photos they are using, got permission to use, or took themselves.

I also hope for movie versions, and that all future Turtle-releases will be coming to Europe as well. I really want Bebop and Rocksteady!

Huh... but aren’t these the same images they printed on the box? I assume that's what those are, stock images for the box, but now they're used as official pictures for the international release as well.

This news hits the exact same day I discover there’s a KO version of the 7 inch movie version 4 pack on the way... Did Neca also find out about that and think ‘Shit! Better let people know they can get the officials soon!’
It all just makes me glad I didn’t splash out £400 on eBay when I saw a local seller somehow got their hands on the set.

Any word on when exactly the Bebop/Rocksteady 2-pack is supposed to hit Target? I think I heard sometime mid-summer, but haven't seen a more approximate date.

I hope they eventually follow up that set with a Splinter/April set (or maybe Casey Jones/April). Those are the only 3 characters of importance left for them to release from the 80s cartoon.

I think Ratking and Baxter hold just as much importance to the old cartoon as Casey did, maybe more. I'd like to see NECA release them, too.
