Star Wars Black Series Deluxe General Grievous Gallery

Posted on March 19, 2019at 3:40 pmby Tony_Bacalaunder Random Photo Shoot, Star Wars Toy News

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve done any Star Wars Black Series Galleries but today we are getting back in the mix with a look at the first Deluxe figure – General Grievous. The Deluxe line are a size above normal, requiring a different price point and allowing some new larger characters to be done (I’m looking at you Zeb). This is also a “Fan Channel” exclusive, meaning he won’t be popping up in Target or Wal-Mart for now.

D1 Grievous comes with 4 lightsabers, 2 blue and 2 green, a cape with pouches for the saber hilts, and blaster. His arms split into four just like the movies and can individually hold the four sabers. Articulation is good, even though he has a skinny frame the joints are tight and hold their position, rotate at multiple points to allow for posing. Only issue with balance is that he is so lightweight, if you sneeze hard he will tip over, but that’s not due to the engineering. My copy had an abnormally loose shin peg requiring some surgery, but that shouldn’t be line wide. Sculpt and paint are well done, above average. The cape could have been worse, but it’s still not great. The front wrap around in particular is glaringly “soft goods” and not accurate to the movies. I don’t have the answer for making these soft goods legit, but this doesn’t do it for me. The pouch aspect is good tho.

Bottom line, awesome fig, worthy of a pick up. We’ve run him through the motions, check out over 35 HD images after the break courtesy of Dorkside Toys!

If this ever goes on sale I might get it, maybe. For me Grievous has become the premiere example of the PT's villain problem. He was hyped up and then he does nothing and dies so we can get a nod to an original Kenobi quote. It's worsened by the knowledge that in the original Clone Wars animated shorts he was pretty badass and none of this portrayal was seen in the film, he wins no battles and doesn't even get to kill some background Jedi.

From pictures online I'd guess he's between 6.5" and 7". His box is humorously oversized.

But remember that he was injured by Mace Windu...

Technically we can't even count that anymore, the current canon ignores that Clone Wars altogether. In Filoni's Clone Wars Grievous was hacking his lungs out the entire time and no explanation was provided beyond the general assumption that being a cyborg disagreed with his lungs. My main point is that in the movie, which is most people's main exposure to the character, Grievous is a completely ineffective Saturday-morning cartoon villain.

Take a careful look at the elbow joints if you find this out and about. Some have elbows with stress marks on the inside of the joint.

I received this figure yesterday and it is amazing! This is the first Black Series I've picked up in a while. It's an extremely well done figure. IMO this is a must get for anyone who collects Star Wars! I couldn't be happier with mine!

I will be picking this figure up for sure. I love it and the concept. Contrary to what many base their collections on I just like concepts and figures. I can use my own imagination. I am not well versed in the Star Wars encyclopedia of history and knowledge and happily so. Grievous is described as a "brilliant military strategist" but star wars writers make him appear really stupid. I have been watching Clone Wars before Netflix removes and Grievous is again portrayed as dumb. He hasn't won anything or shown an ounce of credibility for a darkside anything. They should have chopped him up for scrap by now and they could have saved themselves an irreplaceable weapon, an outpost, half of a droid army, etc. My only gripe is that he should have come with the spinning light sabre effect. How could Hasbro drop that ball? Especially for a premium figure.

And the Mudtrooper looks cool. I might have to pick it up and pretend there's not some junior wannabe Han Solo underneath.
