In stores now from NECA is their IT (2017) – Well House Pennywise Ultimate 7″ Scale Figure. This is the third Pennywise release from the IT remake, following the initial Pennywise Ultimate Figure, and the GameStop Exclusive I Heart Derry Version. A fourth Ultimate Figure, known as the Dancing Clown Pennywise and a Pennywise Accessory Pack are are coming later this year. At Toy Fair 2019, NECA also announced an 8″ Scale Clothed Figure Pennywise, as well as a 1/4 Scale Pennywise. If you’re a fan of the film, you have plenty of version to pick from as each offers some really unique head sculpts and accessories.
For the Well House Pennywise Figure, you get four new head sculpts, and a new assortment of interchangeable hands. Our friends at NECA sent over the figure. After the jump, you can see my photo gallery and review.
IT (2017) – Well House Pennywise Ultimate 7″ Scale Figure by NECA
Pros
- Still a great overall figure
- Solid head sculpts
- The impaled head sculpt is outstanding
- Good articulation
- Easy to swap out parts
- Strong paint application
Cons
- Not as many accessories as most Ultimate Figures
Overall
Pennywise is packaged in a the Ultimate style flapped window box. Alternate artwork is used on the front, while the back mixes imagery from the film with photos of the new head sculpts. Pennywise siting in a plastic tray with a few twist ties holding him in. Included are an evil grin head sculpt, an open mouth screaming head sculpt, the flowing hair “projector scene” head sculpt, and an impaled head sculpt. New hands, including a monster hand, and a fence post are included. The fence post can be inserted into the impaled head sculpt.
The sculpt and paint on the body are pretty much identical to the initial Ultimate Pennywise. If you haven’t yet, check out that review for a more detailed breakdown of the figure. Sculpt and articulation are still excellent, so no real issues there. Joints are free from any locking or looseness, and all of the parts swapped out with surprising ease (much more so than usual). The new hands are welcome, especially the monster hand, which works nicely with any of the evil grinning sculpts. For fans and completionists, the real draw here are the four new head sculpts. Each one here is quite unique, and they offer a wide range of looks. Of the four, the fan favorite is likely to be the impaled sculpt, as it’s from one of the most memorable and scary moments in the movie. The fence post can slide in with ease, and it just works incredibly well. The other three are no slouches either, especially the flowing hair “projector scene” head sculpt which winds up being one of the creepiest of the head sculpts. Paint apps on all of the portraits was just as good as the first releases. Clean lines and nice subtle paint washes where needed.
Pennywise was one of the most expressive film monsters in a while. I can see why NECA keeps putting out new releases, as he shifted from creepily friendly, to just creepy, to hideously monstrous throughout the film. When the Dancing Clown version is released, that will give you 11 completely different head sculpts, as well as paint variants on a few of the others. That’s a lot of variety for your display. Of all the releases, I do feel like this is the one that could have benefited from an extra accessory or two. The creepy clown doll and jack-in-the-box that are included with the Accessory Pack would have worked great here. Regardless of that, for fans it will come down to how much they like the head sculpts here, and the impaled portrait is my personal favorite of any we’ve seen so far (with the Deadlights head from the Dancing clown version coming in a close second).
If you passed on the first Pennywise or the GameStop version, then this is a good starting point, especially if you’re going to pick up the Accessory Pack. That pack will fill in some accessory gaps from this release, such as the balloon and Georgie’s boat. For those that have one of the originals, this will come down to personal preference on which head sculpts you most want. Pennywise is in most stores now, and sells for roughly $27.

I don't know if NECA is doing themselves more good or more harm as a Company with all the Ultimates they release... It's been the same figure time after time after time with new accessories and heads- I can see this being a valid option with something like Jason or freddy where they can package each figure as a different movie version but c'mon- all these Pennywise are from the same dang movie...NECAs "milking" is kind of turning me off them as a company to buy from... Not saying I'm "done!" with them- but I sure am beginning to feel like giving them the same finger they're giving the collectors.
Im sorry but this aint a situation for kids......CALL IN THE COLONIAL MARINES! Burn it with fire, shoot it with pulse rifleS, then squish the everloving hell out of it with a powerloader. Can you imagine if a face hugger got hold of pennywise?
I'm in the middle ground when it comes to the endless "Ultimate" Pennywise figures. I love NECA and will always be a loyal customer, but I do agree that all these Pennywise sets are just ridiculous. Pick a few definitive heads and be done with it. Three separate "Ultimate" releases plus an accessory pack for the same IT figure is just a bit nuts. But then again, I don't have to buy the damn things, so whatever.
Like the guy above said, Ultimates make sense for characters like Jason, but NECA is indeed milking the IT releases.
I only joke, but at this point I feel like this has been NECA’s M.O. as of late. This is a nice figure for sure, but with the lack of accessories and the continued price-hikes it’s becoming harder to keep supporting my favorite toy company.
I don't see what the problem is. These figures are great and I'd rather have multiple bodies to pose the heads with than having just one body and 20 different head accessories. Can't wait for the upcoming Dancing clown pennywise as well.
